Walking around the historic shrine Current location: Yamato City, Kanagawa Prefecture There is a mansion with a storehouse. He must have been an influential person for a long time. This time, we are heading to a large, historic shrine in Yamato City. Your subscription is the beginning of a journey. Let’s go to a new view. Directly ahead is Seya Ward in Yokohama, and you can see that this is the edge of a plateau. We have arrived at Fukami Shrine. It is said that it was founded in 478 AD, but the exact date is unknown. Could Shintoism have existed in such a rural area in those days? It was completely destroyed by fire in 1876 and has since fallen into disrepair. It was rebuilt in 1941, so it’s pretty recent. A Japanese elm tree. It is 500 years old. You can see the graveyard of the neighboring Butsudoji Temple. It’s disrespectful to throw away Fanta at a shrine. This side seems to be the old approach to the shrine from the Edo period. It seems that the main shrine was located further ahead before it disappeared. We have arrived. This is the neighboring temple, Butsudoji. It was founded around 1530. The custom of ordinary people having gravestones began in Japan during the Edo period, and graves from that early period can be seen here. Therefore, the graves of common people before the Muromachi period did not have headstones like we have today. I wonder if these temples are built on the remains of ancient cemeteries. It is rare to see six Jizo statues with roofs like this. There are also signs of considerable repairs. It seems that graves before the Muromachi period were in the Gorin-to style like this. This stone is probably modern, though. The roof is quite damaged. Apparently the old graves and bell tower are designated as important cultural properties of the city. That’s all for today.
