I’m a local tour guide for foreign tourists in Japan. I truly enjoy helping visitors discover the beauty of this country — but I would like to emphasize that I only wish to guide those who respect Japanese culture, customs, and local communities.
May I ask: Do the foreign tourists visiting your country follow the rules and respect your way of life?
Right now in Japan, we’re experiencing serious issues with overtourism. Unfortunately, the number of disrespectful and unruly tourists is increasing, and many Japanese citizens are feeling overwhelmed and even distressed by the behavior of some visitors.
Tourism should be a bridge between cultures, not a burden to local people. I sincerely hope those who come to Japan understand that respect is the key to a meaningful travel experience.
