This time we’re visiting a dreamlike hot spring town that feels like stepping back into the Taisho era: Ginzan Onsen in Yamagata Yamagata Prefecture is located in the southwestern part of Tohoku region Yamagata is broadly divided into four areas: Murayama, Mogami, Okitama, and Shonai We’re in the Murayama area, surrounded by majestic mountains like the Zao mountain range and Mount Gassan! The “Snow Monsters” of Zao are a winter highlight Along with Yamadera Temple, with over 1000 years of history And Ginzan Onsen, which feels like stepping into a Studio Ghibli world Tendo Onsen, located in the center, serves as a base for visiting these locations In addition to Ginzan Onsen, we’ll climb the 1,015 stone steps of Yamadera Temple And enjoy the spectacular views of the Mogami River boat cruise About accessing Ginzan Onsen: Take Yamagata Shinkansen → Yamagata Station → Oishida Station Then take shuttle service from your inn or bus About 30 minutes from Obana IC Good morning! I’ve arrived in Yamagata Prefecture today! I’m heading to the temple called “Yamadera” that you can see behind me! While it’s commonly known as Yamadera, its official name is “Hojusan Risshakuji Temple” I’m going to visit this temple now The building you can see on the mountain is called “Godaido Hall” I heard it has great views, so I’ll climb all these long stairs to get there! It’ll be good exercise after a while, so let’s do our best! [laughs] Founded in 860 by Great Master Jikaku Ennin, it’s known as a representative sacred mountain of Tohoku This is the place where Matsuo Basho composed his famous haiku “Silence, penetrating the rocks, cicada’s voice” It’s a historic site where you can enjoy the rich nature throughout all four seasons all year round There’s nothing written on it! Ah! Oh! It’s Great Fortune!! Yay! I drew my first fortune slip of the year! I got Great Fortune!! But it seems there’s an even better fortune – Greatest Fortune… Even the text is backwards! I’ve never seen such an elaborate fortune slip before! What do you mean it’s backwards? I was holding it the wrong way! [laughs] Now it’s easier to read♪ Finally heading to Godaido Hall! Entrance fee ¥300 Listening to this water sound, maybe this is what inspired Basho’s haiku Really? Well, I’m not sure… [laughs] Instead of “cicada’s voice”… “Cicada’s voice”?? You know, Basho’s haiku about the cicada “Silence, penetrating the rocks, cicada’s voice” It’s kind of like the cicada’s voice, right? Maybe not? Probably not… [laughs] They say with each step up these stairs, your worldly desires disappear! Let’s keep going!! Is it smiling? It’s a bit scary The air feels clearer up here! We’re almost there!! This is where they enshrine the principal image and sacred statues It was closed for winter That’s too bad Closed until March 31st Please keep this in mind if you’re planning to visit! One final push to Godaido Hall!! The town looks beautiful! The snow is sparkling With the river flowing, it’s so peaceful! Can you hear the river? Yes! I can hear it! It’s nice to see glimpses of daily life! ?? I don’t really know what I mean either! [laughs] It’s nice to see that people are living their lives here!! The mountains look beautiful too They’re huge! Really huge! The temple itself! It took quite a while from the bottom! Since we took it slowly, it took about 40 minutes! Actually, it took about an hour! This is a long-established soba restaurant in Yamadera’s temple town Known for authentic handmade soba and botamochi rice cakes During winter (December to end of March), you can enjoy their special bamboo-kneaded ramen with concentrated chicken broth They say the noodles are kneaded with green bamboo! It’s really delicious!! The noodles are thick and wavy, with great texture Not just chewy! It has a firm, substantial bite!! What do you mean by “firm bite”? It’s even better than chewy! Yamagata ramen is really good, isn’t it!! It was delicious last time too! The ramen was so good♪ The soba was really delicious too! Yamagata ramen is amazing, right! It really is delicious!! Everything has been delicious so far!! Now for today’s main event, let’s head to Ginzan Onsen It’s about an hour from here, right? Let’s do our best for the one-hour drive! We’re here! So this is Ginzan Onsen!! This is the famous Ginzan Onsen!! It’s amazing~!! This is truly Taisho Roman style! It’s nice how the ryokans are lined up on both sides of the Ginzan River♪ So retro Really retro! After a devastating flood in 1913 destroyed facilities and affected hot spring quality,
successful drilling for new hot springs in 1926 led to rebuilding of inns, creating today’s townscape The gas lamps are interesting too!! Can’t wait to see them lit up!! Looking forward to the night view! Ginzan Onsen was named after the Nobesawa Silver Mine discovered in 1456 The silver mine reached its peak in the early Edo period, and later developed as a hot spring resort The townscape of wooden buildings from the Taisho and early Showa periods, along with nearby silver mine ruins, is loved by many as a place where you can feel history You can also enjoy the foot bath casually!! They’re called “kote-e” (trowel paintings)! These are reliefs created by plasterers using trowels on plastered walls Amazing, right? So colorful! They’re in various places, aren’t they? Let’s look for them! It’s fun to search for these!! The seating area is surprisingly spacious! A seat with a view of Ginzan Onsen’s townscape♪ It’s lively! And this is with restrictions, right? I heard they’re limiting day visitors! Amazing how many people there are! There’s something at the bottom, like beans… There used to be this kind of candy Don’t you know the carrot one? The carrot-shaped candy!! The puffed rice snack It’s soba! Soba soft serve! It’s really soba! You mean it tastes like soba? It’s delicious! These beans?? They were puffed rice Delicious!! It’s really nice that you can adjust the sweetness by adding brown sugar syrup yourself! The tiramisu was delicious too♪ We’ve found our inn for today! We’re staying at “Ryokan Nagasawa Heihachi” It’s really luxurious, isn’t it! The building is, how should I say… Not exactly a castle, but Doesn’t it look like one? How should we describe it? It’s Taisho Roman style! Are you calling everything Taisho Roman? [laughs] Built in Taisho 14 (1925), it’s a traditional three-story wooden inn While preserving its historical charm, you can enjoy a relaxing stay in this space that embodies the Japanese spirit It’s spacious! This is nice!! They have cute yukata! Blue and pink And there’s an outer robe too There’s a toilet too And a washbasin As for the hot springs, there’s a private semi-open-air bath a private family bath, and separate indoor baths for men and women You can enjoy the hot springs at your leisure I’ve taken a bath! It feels really good! This bath water is clear It has a clear quality! At first it was so hot I couldn’t get in at all But I used the bath-stirring technique I learned at Kusatsu Onsen and got it to just the right temperature! [laughs] It’s quite spacious You can stretch your legs out fully There’s a window and when you open it slightly you can see Ginzan Onsen’s main street You can watch the bustling scene below! This bath is special because it’s made entirely of wood so you can feel the warmth of the wood You can experience the natural warmth typical of Ginzan Onsen It’s really clean here Maybe it was built recently? It’s very clean You can smell the sulfur from the hot spring The people who used to mine silver here must have bathed in hot springs like this too It’s wonderful that this tradition has been preserved until today I’m starving~!! Everything looks so delicious! I’m really looking forward to the imoni stew!! Imoni is Yamagata’s signature dish!! I’ve never had it before, so I’m excited♪ The meat looks good too♪ I see! It’s hot! The taro is so tender!! The taro just melts in your mouth! It’s soy sauce based! It’s such a comforting flavor~! I see! I’m going to keep using “I see!” I’m going to keep using “I see!” Because I’ve been overusing “Indeed”… [laughs] So you’re switching to “I see” now? [laughs] Stay tuned! [laughs] I’ll try the meat now!! It’s beef!! It’s so thick! Wonder if I can eat it in one bite? You can! Can you manage it? No problem! Mmm!! Is it good? It’s so tender!! The fat is sweet Even though it’s this big it’s not heavy at all! It’s light! Is it easy to eat? Yes! My teeth went right through it! It’s really delicious~!! The food in Yamagata is really amazing! I’ve never had apple gratin before! I always think of apples as sweet desserts, I wonder what baked apple gratin will be like? It tastes like apple but… I don’t know how to describe it! [laughs] It’s strange but in a good way! It’s sweet! Sweet because of the apple! Now for the nighttime view of Ginzan Onsen I’ve been looking forward to!! The atmosphere has completely changed! It’s so magical The hotel lights and gas lamps look beautiful together♪ This is what Ginzan Onsen is really known for! It’s such a different atmosphere from daytime More sophisticated! When the lights come on it really looks like Spirited Away Though I haven’t seen Spirited Away (laughs) Ah~ So warming! Such a comforting taste!! We’re just feeling cozy non-stop! [laughs] This is tofu from “Nogawa Tofuya” in the hot spring town! It’s so fluffy! So fluffy! Delicious!! It’s so soft!! You can taste the sweetness of the soybeans! Delicious!! I see! Morning has come~ Morning is here! The morning view is nice too! Isn’t it peaceful? Is it snowing? A little bit Is it snowing? It was snowing earlier when I looked out the window It’s not as cold as I expected! Let’s explore a bit! There’s supposed to be a drainage tunnel ahead, let’s check it out They say there was a silver mine here! The Nobesawa Silver Mine was discovered in the Muromachi period and reached its peak during the Edo period There’s a drainage tunnel from that time so let’s go see it About 5 minutes from the ryokan!! Doesn’t the sound echo? It’s warm in here! You’re right! It’s warm! Why? A mysterious space with water dripping I thought I’d die from how cute the shop is! It’s the firm type! The bitterness is really delicious The caramel is bitter but tasty!! Yum! I’ll try the roasted cocoa too Isn’t it too cute!! Just looking at this presentation is enough to make me happy!! The cocoa is delicious!! Not too sweet I wonder if it gets sweeter when you eat it with the marshmallow? This was the right choice!! It feels like nobility’s food! [laughs] Ginzan Onsen is great!! It’s starting to snow outside! The atmosphere changes again! It’s snowing heavily! Such big flakes!! This atmosphere is wonderful♪ The snowy scenery was overwhelmingly beautiful The Mogami River boat ride, representing Yamagata’s landscape, is about a one-hour journey While enjoying the scenic views of each season, you can enjoy a bento box filled with local flavors The history of river transportation since the Edo period, the beauty of the gorge with its steep cliffs, and the boatman’s stylish songs are the attractions The boatman’s commentary is fun♪ We cruise down while listening to the “Mogami River Boat Song” Ee-enya-ee-enya-ee-ee Ee-enya-ee-do Yoi-sano-magasho Enya-kora-makase That was fun!! It went by so quickly! It was nice hearing all the fun facts while going down the river! The songs were great too♪ This concludes our Yamagata trip, but Yamagata is really wonderful The food in Yamagata is seriously amazing!! Let’s come again Thank you for watching!!

銀山温泉、周囲に何もないですが、銀山川沿いの中心地の雰囲気、特に街灯の灯った夜の雰囲気が最高ですね。私も登山の帰りに一泊したのと、水彩画を描いた事があります。ただ日本のどこでも、中国語が多くて、日本の風情が・・。山寺も2度お邪魔して、絵を2枚描きましたが、最上川の舟下りまでは・・さすがです。冬の川下りならではの景色と船頭さんの唄が沁みます。

山形は初めての地方勤務地だったのでとても懐かしい所です。
それまで東京と大阪での勤務しか経験していなかったのですべてが新鮮でした。
とても想い出深い土地です。
なるさんが案内してくれた所どこも懐かしく見ることができました。
山寺は子供を抱いて登ったので腕が非常に疲れたのを思い出します。
大変だった記憶があったけど2年前に犬を抱いて登った時は人間の子供に比べるとだいぶ楽でした。
芭蕉の句、なるさんが詠むと風情があっていいですね。🥰
冬なのに蝉の声が聞こえてきそうです。
温泉に入浴しながらなるさんのくつろいだ声での語り口がとても情緒があっていいですね。😍
銀山温泉は昔大ヒットしたテレビドラマおしんの舞台になったことでも有名ですよね。
おしんは多くの国で放映され外国人にも人気があるのでこの動画はまた多くの外国人にも見られることでしょう。
今回も美味しいものをたくさん食べましたね。
なるさんは本当に美味しそうに食べるから見ているだけでも幸せな気分になります。
なるさんが言っていたように山形は本当に美味しいものがたくさんありますよね。
果物も野菜も蕎麦も肉も日本酒もとても美味しいです。
最上川舟下りは紅葉の時期も周囲が錦衣のような美しい紅葉に覆われ素晴らしい絶景を見ることができますよ。
またこの時期は蔵王の樹氷も素晴らしいので是非おすすめです。
無数の怪獣が迫って来るような何とも名状しがたい光景が忘れられません。

山形単身赴任で３年、銀山温泉は、5回泊まりました。8年前でも台灣の方はいましたよ。食べるものが美味しく、四季のメリハリがハッキリした山形県は、大好きです。肘折温泉、羽黒山も行ってみてはいかが？

山寺の階段は登るごとにぼんのうがなくなるけど降りて来るともとに戻るのですよ
大正ロマン感溢れるガス燈の銀山温泉は、暖か味と豪華さと風情があって憧れちゃうお宿ですね!（確かに）😆👍。青竹手打ちのちぢれ太麺＋デカチャーシューラーメン🍜は超美味しそうでした!（なるほど）😋。焼きココアもマシュマロと超合いそうで贅沢な味わい深さが感じられました!（確かに）。暖かい舟で。弁当を頬張りながら最上川をクルーズする舟下りも最高の贅沢ですね!（なるほど）まささん面白くて良い人ですね!（確かに）🙇🙏。

銀山温泉は面白いですね。山形県に行きたいです。山寺は楽しかったです。東京駅から山形新幹線で山形県まで便利です。伊豆の華でそばを食べました。美味しそうです。多分朝食をラーメンを食べました。値段が７５０円です。もし分けありません。今出かける予定です。家の近くに市場があります。食べ物と飲み物を買わなければなりません。将来暇なとき、もう一回勉強する予定です。最後にこのビデオは面白いですね。どうもありがとうございます。それで以上です。

Arigato Goidamasu Naru-San for sharing this video with us. Ginzan Onsen looks beautiful, and I planned to stayed there. But for me, its too touristy, and I dont feel comfortable in places with so many day visitors. So I am glad that I can enjoy it from my laptop 🙂.

海外在住尾花沢市出身のおばさんですがよく銀山温泉に行ってました。 しかし、地元出身でこんな事言うのは心苦しいですが、何処が良いのかわかりません。景色も良い訳でもない、見たところ格別な料理でも無いです。いつも思った事は大切なおもてなしの接待を全然感じない事です。地元出身であるからの辛口コメントです。 少し心ある接待をして欲しいです。
