Kobayashi’s 12-Day Kyushu Road Trip: Kumamoto Edition, Days 8-9 , pick up where the previous Amakusa Edition left off . We crossed Amakusa Bridge No. 1 and left Amakusa, returning to Kumamoto City. Before entering Kumamoto City, we visited a shrine on the seaside : Nagao Kenjinja Shrine, Uki City. April 6th – 12:00 PM. It’s called Nagao Kenjinja Shrine . Uki City – Nagao Kenjinja Shrine, April 6th – 12:00 PM. This attraction was actually something I discovered when I suddenly came to Japan. I added it here immediately. It is the mysterious Shiranui Nagao Ken Shrine, a national designated scenic spot located in Sankaku-cho. I went in to take a look. This shrine is not very big, just a small shrine. It was built in 713 and is a shrine with a considerable history. Legend has it that the deity of the shrine came on a giant stingray, and the tail of the stingray that came at that time was like the tip of a sword , which was exactly the location of the shrine , so the shrine is also called the Sword Shrine. Finally, the shrine was named Nagao Ken Shrine. Because the deity came from the sea , a sea torii was built on the sea. This shrine facing the sea is really beautiful. There is also something else . From the end of August to mid-September every year, between midnight and four in the morning, as long as the time, place and people are in good harmony, the Shiranui phenomenon will appear on the sea torii. What is Shiranui? In modern science, it’s a mirage. Of course, it takes a lot of luck to see one. It’s up to you if you want to challenge your luck. You have to take off your shoes to enter . There are all sorts of amulets. It’s self-service. I bought one for 600 yen. There’s a hole here. I fell into it. Kumamoto City – Kumamon Center, April 6th – 1:30 PM. Our current destination is the Kumamon Center/Plaza , which is where Xiaoyu wanted to go and see Kumamon, the representative of Kumamoto Prefecture. We were very hungry after watching the Kumamon Center/Plaza because we hadn’t had lunch yet , so we just found a noodle shop nearby. It was nothing special, just a normal Japanese restaurant . After lunch, we walked around the center of Kumamoto City. I went to the shopping mall, the shopping street , and I went to the Kumamoto branch of ALPEN OUTDOORS, a large outdoor camping equipment store. I wanted to see the store environment and what they sell. I can watch the previous live broadcast clips. I have a backup. I still didn’t agree to appear on camera at that time. Kumamoto City – Original Kumamoto Ramen KOMULASAKI Kamidori Central Store April 6th – 20:00 It’s called KOMUNASAKI. Why did I come? : A few years ago… I came to Fukuoka. When I came to Fukuoka eight years ago, I went to a very famous local restaurant , Kurotei Ramen. The black garlic oil ramen is one of the best foods in Kumamoto. Now I come to another restaurant . This one claims to be the ancestor of Kumamoto ramen, which means it was the earliest. Of course I have to come and try it. For someone like me who loves ramen, Wang Yang Ramen is now called Wang Yang Ramen , Danji Ramen and Danji Ramen with Pan- fried Dumplings. It is also called Duo Ke Dumplings. My bowl of Wang Yang Ramen is the most popular ramen in the restaurant. Its pork bone broth with a little garlic added to the broth is not as rich as that of other Kumamoto ramen. The taste is lighter. Because of the addition of garlic , the broth is a little more fragrant than the usual pork bone broth, and the taste is a little special . The side dishes include a little green onion, bean sprouts, shredded wood ear mushrooms and bamboo shoots , as well as three very thin barbecued pork. I think the barbecued pork is too thin, so it lacks the oily fragrance, so I have to deduct points. The portion of Wang Yang Ramen is a little larger than usual, and the noodles are moderately soft and hard. Overall, I think this bowl of Wang Yang Ramen is just passable, just an average Japanese ramen. As for Xiaoyu’s light chicken ramen , the broth is light but refreshing. The garnishes, chashu, and noodles are the same as mine, but the portion is smaller. Overall, it’s not outstanding, but just OK for Japanese ramen. The dumplings are thin and crispy, the fillings are ample, and the flavor is quite good. I personally think this ramen shop is just average for Japanese ramen, but it’s one of the most popular ramen shops in the city. Traditional authentic Kumamoto ramen, the birthplace of Kumamoto ramen, probably because the shop claims to be authentic traditional Kumamoto ramen. Locals may also like it because… a bowl costs only a few hundred yen, which is quite affordable. From small to large , it is the local hometown flavor , which is why it is so popular. If you want to try the traditional authentic Kumamoto ramen, it is worth visiting and experiencing it. After dinner, I went to the convenience store to buy breakfast for tomorrow morning at the hotel . On the morning of Day 9, we had breakfast at the hotel, which we had bought at the convenience store yesterday. Then, we set off early to drive out of Kumamoto City and into the Aso region of Kumamoto Prefecture. Kikuchi City – Kikuchi Valley April 7th – 9:00 We drove an hour from Kumamoto City – Kikuchi Valley April 7th – 9:00 We arrived at this place located between Kumamoto and Aso City. Kikuchi City – Kikuchi Valley April 7th – 9:00 We walked along the Kikuchi Valley in Kikuchi City. There is a trail here that is part of the Kyushu Nature Trail. We will do a loop of one section , which took us 2.5 hours. I estimate it was about 90 minutes to an hour . It took us 2.5 hours. The road we set out on is not very big, about 6.3 kilometers . Parking fee: 300 yen/rack. We’re parked in parking lot number 1 , not the entrance . Walk another 200 meters to the entrance to Kikuchi Gorge. We ‘re there in two or three minutes… The entrance to Kikuchi Gorge is on the right after you get out. We’re entering now. This is located in Aso-Kuju National Park, a valley formed by underground streams from the outer rim of Mt. Aso. The valley is approximately four kilometers long. The Kikuchi Gorge Visitor Center is also known as the Kikuchi Water Source. The water here is one of Japan’s 100 Famous Waters. You can imagine how clear it is. Even in the middle of summer, the stream is only 13 degrees Celsius, very refreshing , making it a great summer escape for Kumamoto residents . The Forest Plaza in the valley has an entrance fee of 200 yen/person. At places like the Wild Bird Plaza, you can see over 50 species of wild birds, so birdwatchers are welcome. When you come to Kumamoto Prefecture, remember to take the time to come here and appreciate it. The entire Kikuchi Valley is paved with well-equipped trails. Xiaoyu and I took a stroll here, immersed in nature and enjoying the natural joy here. Let’s all enjoy the scenery here together. We came to this check point. The Akebono Taki is behind it. I looked up information online and found that there should be water flowing on both sides. The amount of water is small, and there is water on only one side . Normally, water will flow out on the left, and there will be water on both sides. We came to another check point, Momiji no Se . Momiji no Se is Momiji no Se. It seems nothing special now , but actually Momiji no Se is… In the autumn leaf season, you can see a beautiful scenery full of autumn leaves. Now is not the right time . We drove around the Hirokawahara of Jushin Sansanman no Taki and returned to the other side of the entrance to the Akebono Taki. After visiting the Kikuchi Gorge, this episode ends here.
