Authentic China Market Day in Rural Guilin

Hello everyone, I’m Alin 🤗 This market tour takes us to Dayu Old Town a rural town in Guangxi, China. It’s nestled beside the Li River and surrounded by mountains and rivers. The ancient town has a long history and still retains the traditional rural market culture. On market days, local farmers bring their own vegetables to the market to sell. Peach gum is the “tears” shed by peach trees, resembling amber. In fact, it is a natural resin secreted by peach trees It has a chewy texture and is odorless, often used to make desserts or stews. Ophiopogon japonicus is a common Chinese medicinal ingredient often paired with wolfberry, chrysanthemum, etc. to make health-preserving teas. In addition to vegetables, the market also has wild ingredients caught by farmers themselves (unrecognizable ingredients, perhaps taro stems) Zongzi leaves are very common, but do you know what these dried leaves are used for? The old man is very careful in selecting leaves, choosing especially dry ones. The slender leaves of horseweed are often used to tie rice dumplings. This is glutinous rice flour, and the stall owner is preparing to make glutinous rice balls. The hand-rolled small glutinous rice balls are rare in the city. The stall owner’s skillful technique kneads them to produce the traditional old flavor. The glutinous rice balls are cooked in a thick brown sugar and ginger soup, and then fermented rice is added after cooking, which is a rare flavor. There are two kinds of glutinous rice balls, the dark one is sorghum rice, and the white one is glutinous rice. The classic black sesame filling is sweet and delicious. The old man pushes a tricycle, selling homemade tofu pudding and soy milk. The tofu pudding is delicate and tender, and is seasoned with brown sugar water and white sugar. How much is the soy milk? -There are 3 pieces, 5 pieces, and 2 pieces – I want a 3-piece soy milk Sanhua plums are a specialty fruit in Guangxi, with a large output. They are often made into preserved fruits or candied fruits. Plums can be eaten fresh directly, but if you soak them in light salt water before eating, the taste will be different. The flesh of Sanhua plums is purple-red, and the taste is slightly sour and juicy. Compared with Sanhua plums, this yellow plum is sweeter. The skin is golden, more juicy, and the taste is sweet with a slight sour taste. In China, street tailors are a common service. The most customers come to “cut trouser legs” If the legs of new pants are too long, people will ask tailors to shorten them. Camouflage uniforms are very popular because they are durable and wear-resistant. They are often used as The green “work clothes” for daily work The green cake are mugwort cakes, made with mugwort juice and glutinous rice flour. The classic black sesame filling is very sweet and contains peanut granules. Pasta is an indispensable delicacy at the market. The large pancake skin is about to be put into the oil pan to make the sauce-flavored pancake. The pancake is large and thin, so that it will be crispy when fried. The soul of the sauce-flavored pancake lies in the secret sauce. The chopped green onions and sesame seeds are the finishing touches, adding layers of flavor. Locals usually raise the rabbits they buy before eating them. The vendor is teaching customers how to identify the gender of the rabbits. Guangxi is one of the main lychee producing areas in China. Lychees are eaten fresh. The best, with a sweet taste. However, lychees are not easy to preserve, so they are often made into canned or dried fruits. “Guiwei” is a famous lychee variety in Guangxi. It has a small core and thick flesh, and is sweet and juicy. Guangxi has a warm climate and is China’s “Fruit Kingdom”. These fruits are all locally grown and inexpensive. Fried foods are a common street snack in Guangxi. The cooking method is simple and the taste is familiar. Glutinous rice chicken is a classic fried snack. Peel off the crispy shell and the aroma overflows. The filling is diced chicken, mushrooms, etc., and the taste is slightly salty and very fragrant. Another common snack is cold zong, a traditional triangle rice cake, with a soft and glutinous taste, which is delicious when eaten alone. Sprinkle with black sesame seeds It will be sweeter if mixed with white sugar. The weather is hot now, and the black sesame candy has melted. The sugar juice evenly wraps the glutinous rice dumplings, which are very delicious. Qingbuliang originated from Hainan, China, and is also very popular here. It contains a variety of small ingredients such as mung beans, red beans, coix seeds, fruits, nuts, etc., with a rich taste. Finally, coconut milk smoothie combines all the delicious flavors Dried fish is a common dried seafood produced in Beihai, Guangxi. Dried fish has a salty and fresh taste and is easy to cook.
