What the heck?! Whoa, look at that! What… Wow! Oh, it’s the Shusse Kannon! Beautiful. Oh, there are people. Yeah. That’s the worst place to park! Oops, I said it. Awamata Falls—4.3 km to go! Seems like there’s a little tourist stop for Yōrō Valley too. Let’s stop by. Sure! It says “Bike Life.” Bikes are a big deal here, huh? We’re here. Tourist center. Parking lot here… oh hey, not bad at all! Yeah, it’s nice. There’s a toilet… and a smoking spot… But there aren’t any bikes at all. That is a bike parking spot. Oh! The “highlight” is over ther. Let’s go check out the “highlight”. Where’s the “highlight”? Over there. Everyone’s walking toward the “highlight.” “Highlight”? All going for the “highlight.” Wait, it’s literally called “Highlight”? I’m not sure. “Highlight”..? “Highlight”. And now, the highlight… The Tomi Falls! So it’s on the property here! Too close! Scary! So this waterfall’s name means “to look far,” right? Yeah. I think the name’s from having to see it from far away. Okay, that’s your theory then. I think the name’s kind of an excuse. I see. It’s hand-carved again. Oh, this is one of those too! Yeah. And,… This is… Past the swampy area… Walked through the muck, and… And there it is! The Tōmi Falls! So this is Tōmi Falls! Wait, it’s actually not that far! Yeah. I was gonna say, “It’s too far and tiny!” Right. Me too. Not sure what to say. But I think it’s probably a river diversion site. Yeah, totally. Kinda looks like it. Let’s go see what that sign says. Sure. Swamp, round two. So,… Okay. A river-diverted waterfall I thought so! Oh! It means “future,” not “far”! I see!! It’s a metaphorical name, not a literal one. Yeah. Not about physical distance. Yeah. My bad! A wish-granting waterfall! Let’s go check it out up close. Hey, look! To see the river diversion, you have to get through places like this. No!! This! This way is… The usual! The classic!! You seriously missed that path?! Only in Chiba! There you go again… Get through this, and the view’s yours. Hey, hold on Jumbo! Jumbo, no extra clothes after that fall. So, Let’s go the other way. Why so serious? Nope, I’m out!! Wait! Wait for the camera! That was close! Seriously?! Yeah! Yeah, I can feel the wind. Do you? Yeah. Can’t escape this wind! Pretty sure it’s coming from that spot. That’s so true! Feels cooler here than the rest. And, looks different from down here. Deeper and more beautiful. That was Tomi Falls. It was better than I expected. Yeah. Honestly, didn’t expect much. I’ll admit that. What a great place. Honestly, I didn’t know this place existed. Me too. We just found this place while passing by. Wait! We’ve seen so many river diversions today. Yeah, we did! Today’s just been non-stop river diversions! To be honest… I thought of something kinda hard to say. What was the name of that river diversion we went to? The Nomizo Falls. That’s it! Nomizo Falls doesn’t feel that special to me anymore. You might be right… But there’s still one thing we never did at Nomizo Falls. And that is… getting a shot of the heart shape that appears when the cave and water reflection line up. The weather wasn’t on our side, so we couldn’t capture it. What makes Nomizo Falls special is that heart shape. I see. Yeah, we haven’t actually seen it ourselves. Yeah… but still… I don’t think it has to be Nomizo Falls. True. There are actually… a bunch of places like that. Yeah, there’s tons. But every river diversion tunnel shows a different side. So instead of thinking about which one’s the best, we should just enjoy them all. True! Honestly, I think a lot of people don’t even know these kinds of tunnels are all over the place. But once you know, it might change how you enjoy traveling. Hard to believe this is still Chiba. Then where are we? Oh, a car’s parked. Guess you can park here. Wait, no? It says… ‘Awamata Falls Entrance’! Yeah,,,, But let’s check first. It says it’s for overnight guests. Oh! Look! That’s the Awamata Falls parking Oh, there’s parking! Yeah. Isn’t it easier if we don’t park too far up? Was there parking down there? Not sure though. It’s already an amazing view here! This spot’s got a … river too! Is this even a river? Ah! Isn’t this it? No way that’s it! “Yumemi Falls” So, we’re here. Wow, look at that wall! Yeah, totally. This area’s full of walls like that. Yeah. Maybe the geology here just makes it like that. So, we finally got to the parking lot.. But this parking lot isn’t what I imagined. It’s up in the hill. And it was 500 yen a day. 500 yen’s actually a good deal. Really fair price. And,… Can’t shoot it ‘cause there’s a family over there… but “Yumemi” Falls is… No! What was it? Awamata Falls. It’s there. Man, messing up the joke is the worst. Yeah, true. I can’t tell if this water’s really clear. Yeah. Not sure if we’re even supposed to touch it.. It’s drinkable! No way! It’s drinkable. Way too sketchy. It just came through the soil! That’s normal. Every kind of water comes from the soil. Alright, that’s enough. Let’s head to the waterfall! Man, this parking lot’s super steep. True. It’s like we’re in the middle of the mountains. We entered from that way and left the car behind us. You can tell there’s a lot of elevation change. Oh, the exit’s on the left! Yeah. I see. Right away, it’s a crazy steep slope. Yeah. At the entrance. So this is … the path that leads down to the Yōrō River, right? Yeah. How long do you think the walk is? Since we can hear the water, it’s gotta be nearby. The sign says, ‘Caution’ Something must’ve happened here. ‘Caution: water accidents.’ Going in the river’s risky… waterfalls are especially dangerous. Yeah. There’s the river! Oh wow, that’s a real river! Yeah, totally! The last part’s stairs! Watch out, the steps are slippery But the light’s so pretty. Definitely! The sunlight! Yeah! Hey, it turned out sunny today! Yeah, it really did! What a miracle! I know! Man, we’re lucky! So glad! But it’s still not the waterfall yet. Yeah, it’s still just the river. Just river! So we walk along this river! This trail’s literally at the river’s edge. Let’s see how far we can get. Yeah, let’s push it to the limit. Look, it’s already flooded! Hey Jumbo, careful. There are places like this around. Got it! I think the river’s swollen from last night’s rain! The water level’s risen! Yeah! True! See? It’s like this! It’s a muddy torrent! So falling in is not an option. Seriously! We don’t suggest you try this yourselves. But,… If you decide to go, please do so at your own responsibility. Let’s go a bit further. Okay! Our shoes are gonna get wet. Yeah! This is how it is! Jumbo, I think this is our limit! Okay! I’m turning back! Okay! It’s getting pretty deep! I’m gonna try going a bit more! No way! He’s so into it… shoes totally soaked and all. Your shoes are gonna be ruined! What? Your shoes are done for! True, the shoes are finished. Oh well, it can’t be helped. We’ve come this far, no point worrying anymore. RIP my shoes! Feels risky to head that way. Wait, you’re gonna go?! You made it!! This feels awesome! Amazing! So powerful! The rain last night really made the water surge! Yep! Just torrent after torrent! Maybe it’s normally not this wild. Yeah, probably. Still, we managed to get here. True. Even after the rain. But… Our shoes didn’t survive. True. But it was worth it! I’m glad we came! I think coming here in the warmer season is especially nice. You are right! Like in summer! When it’s warm, this place is like nature’s AC with all that fresh air! It’s not too tough, the parking’s right there, and there’s even a café. I think it’s great! This is the best! But … the water’s muddy… still, it doesn’t really look dirty. Yeah, kinda feels that way… but who knows. It doesn’t smell or anything. Yeah. Jumbo’s super picky about river smells… I don’t like the way that sounds. It’s like… Jumbo’s kinda picky about whether river water smells or not. He’s sensitive about that. It’s ‘cause the rivers in Tokyo smell. Fair enough. That was great! Yeah. I feel refreshed. Funny thing is, we never went to the most famous spot—Yōrō Falls. True! Wanna go now? Nah, not this time. I mean, we can just leave those famous spots to other channels. Yeah, you’ve got a point. There’s already plenty of information out there. This time the water was way stronger than usual. Yeah. With all that power, it really felt like Chiba’s Niagara. I wonder what it’s actually called. Feels like it must have a name. With that kind of force, it was really impressive. I had a great time. True. Yeah. What surprised me was the shaved ice stand and parking lot right there. Such a tourist-friendly vibe. Yeah. I expected it to be tucked away, hard to reach. Like that hand-carved tunnel we went to earlier! Yeah! Was it Eishōji? Yeah. Like that tunnel we saw. Okay. I expected it to be like that, so I felt relieved here. Since this is our second shoot today. True. Yeah. That’s why we were able to push on into the water. Right. A tough-to-reach place and an easy-to-enjoy one. Having both made the trip feel nicely balanced. If I had to give one tip: in summer you’ll sweat a ton, so bring extra clothes. Plus— make a café reservation! That’s a MUST DO! Yeah, both of them! There are two spots! One where you can get shaved ice, and one with soft serve. It’s pet-friendly, with a terrace right next to the falls. And that terrace is reservation-only too… But it looked really nice! Yeah! So I think you’ll enjoy it more if you make a reservation.
