I went to Jo in Takeda City, Oita Prefecture, which is one of Japan’s 100 famous castles. Jo is a castle with a splendid stone wall that takes advantage of the height of Mt. Tenjin, and is called Nanko Hula Castle. It is the place where Rentaro Taki sang. As the castle that became the motif of the moon, Jo is the origin of Kokichi, who also appeared in Ike Monogatari in 1185, Bunji year. It is said that it was used as a post station to welcome Genokichi, who had been chased by his friends.According to the Bunkokushishi in 1369, in the 2nd year of Taian, Shigetomo, where Bunkoku’s Otomo was located, repaired and expanded the castle and moved the giant from the castle. 104 In the Great War of 1586, Otomo Island was defeated at the Battle of Mimigawa, and the army of Gasu in Shimatani was defeated. The castle was repulsed many times by only 1,500 soldiers, and it became known as Nankou Flag Castle.On the right side of the road leading to Boishi Otemon Gate, there is a castle called “Ka-no-shi”. Otemon is a stone carving in the shape of a stone, and the main entrance is white, and an arrow can be seen on the stone wall of Otemon. The Otemon gate, Ishinomaki , also served as a defensive facility.The gate has a built-in design, and the Sanri gate is used for the gate.The car that spreads out to the left after passing the Otemon gate is the West Mark . The stone wall of the Taikoya is made up of huge stones piled up using a masonry method called Kirikiriha.It is surprising that Ishinomaki was built with such huge stones on a mountain that looks like a strip.Ahead of the Taiko Grat are the remains of Ninomaru and Honmaru. Ninomaru is an edge-shaped area that extends to the north. A bath house was built on the Tsukimiya Higashi Bridge in a place that jutted out at five points in the center.It was a place with a strong sense of Osaka, with few military elements and elegant buildings lined up.Currently, the Ninomaru ruins are located here. There is a statue of Rentaro Taki and a free rest area. Rentaro Taki, the composer of Factory Works, spent his childhood here. It is said that he composed the composition based on the image of him spending time at the school and being a junior at the school.Taki Rentaro has been set up with the Kokonoe Mountain Range in the background.You can climb up to the ruins of the main enclosure from the stone steps next to the stone wall.There were once five main enclosures behind the main enclosure. Jotenma Shrine, located on the site of the main enclosure, was built in 1593. It was purchased by Hidenari Nakagawa, who entered the temple in 2013. 5 The celebrant is Sugawara’s path. 日本100名城の一つで、大分県竹田市にある岡城
岡城は天神山の断崖絶壁を活かした高石垣が見事な城で、難攻不落の城と呼ばれています。
瀧廉太郎が作曲した荒城の月のモチーフとなった城としても有名です。
その眼下にある城下町
大分県の南西部に位置する竹田市、一日に数万トンの湧出量ともいわれる豊富な湧水と緑があふれる自然豊かな地域です。
その城下町は豊臣秀吉の天下統一のころに造成されました。
その後商業を中心として発展し、今でも武家屋敷通りなどの古い建物などが残っていて、趣のある城下町です。
今回はその竹田市城下町を散策してみました。
