INSIDE World’s RICHEST & STRICTEST COUNTRY: BRUNEI 🇧🇳 | Indian in Brunei Darussalam

Good morning and welcome back to my new blog. I am Ansh and I am currently in Brunei. Brunei is a country in South East Asia which is one of the top three largest islands in the world and is situated on the northern coast of Borneo Island, the largest island in Asia . And the flights etc. available for travelling to this country are also very limited. And especially if you want to travel from India, getting a direct flight here is considered very expensive and difficult. Because of this, very few people come to visit this country which is also considered one of the least visited countries in Asia. I welcome you all to that country. So guys, finally officially welcome to Brunei Darussalam. So, I arrived here yesterday around 4:30 in the evening , and today is officially my first day in this country, where I’m going to go out and explore this country and its capital city, the largest city. I’m going to show you my overall first day experience, my first impression of this country, in this video. So, Guy Brunei is a country in the world where the world’s oldest continuously ruling dynasty still exists. That is, the same royal family that has ruled for more than 600 years. And where the king holds the title of the second richest monarch in the world. He owns around 7000 luxury cars, 1700 rooms in the world’s largest residential palace, and a golden jet decorated with gold worth around 4300 crores. The net worth of this ultra-rich Sultan here is around 30 billion US dollars. A country where Sharia law is currently in effect. Even alcohol, tobacco, and any other intoxicants are completely banned. One of the world’s top 15 strongest currencies and the 15th richest country in Asia, where a single note once cost 7560 USD. So, this is such a strict, richest, isolated country, and one of the most expensive, and also known as the least visited country in Asia. We’ll travel here and experience the true local lifestyle of the people in this upcoming Brunei travel series. So, guys, this is Brunei’s capital and largest city, called Bandar Seri Begawan. So, this is my first impression, a first look, of this beautiful Brunei. I’m getting a very lovely, very beautiful first impression of this place . And this entire area is actually the main city center. This is Bandarassery Begawan , or the downtown area of their capital city. There are numerous ministries, government buildings, and museums here . You’ll find all of these things. So, the building you see in front of you is the Royal Museum, which houses the entire history of Brunei. It’s called the Royal Regalia Museum. Let me show you its timings and entry fees. As you can see, if you’re an adult and a foreigner, especially a non-resident, the entry ticket is 5 Bruneian dollars. For children, it’s two Bruneian dollars. You’ll need your identity card. Obviously, you’ll need to bring your passport with you to secure entry when purchasing tickets. The rest of its timings are displayed here. So, these are the timings from Saturday to Thursday. It’s closed on Fridays. You can access this place by coming here at different times on different days . So, before I arrived here, I went to have breakfast with my local friend and host, a local Bruneian named Lifang. So guys, it’s about to be 10:00, and today’s breakfast will be at one of Brunei’s most famous restaurants, Jing Chu Restaurant. So today is our Day One in Brunei, and our first meal on the first day will be local, specifically Bruneian food, and we’ll be trying it in this restaurant. So, outside this restaurant, the locality and neighborhood look something like this. You can see it. The houses here are mostly white and cream, and there are all sorts of house color combinations, but you’ll also find colorful houses like this. The rest of the sheds above, mostly all the houses I see on this side, you’ll see the tin sheds and tile work on them mixed in. The rest is concrete like this. You’ll also see a section with a lot of coconut trees and palm trees here. Furthermore, since this place is located entirely on the island of Borneo, you can see the entire collection of cars that come for breakfast in this restaurant. You’ll find every top-notch brand car in this country. Let’s go inside the restaurant. Let’s see what we find here. It’s quite crowded, it’s very rushed. You can see the entire restaurant. I told you it’s full and one of the most popular restaurants. So, that’s why you’ll see a lot of crowd here. All the locals are here . Morning. [Music] Hi, Lifan, morning. Hi, how are you? Morning, excellent, you’re always super excellent. So, this is Lifan, who is actually hosting me here in Brunei . So, she brought us here for breakfast with her . And here we have Bona. Hi bro. How are you? Oh man, super crazy. You see, Bona is actually from Jakarta, Indonesia, and he just arrived here yesterday. So, I ‘d like to show you the menu of this restaurant here. Since 1946, it’s so old. As I told you, it ‘s popular for hot breads and tea. So, you’ll actually find different kinds of breads here, with different kinds of stuffing. Along with their national drink, tea, etc., especially the te and te tari, you’ll find a lot of these here. There are also some prices, so the te tari, te tari, India, see, there’s a special one for that too. So, this is our first meal of the day and Bunoi’s first breakfast. This is the roti cheese that I ordered. And this is the Inti roti. So, this is a normal bread, a bun maska type of bread. And it has cheese stuffing inside. This is the one you see. And this is their local tea. I think they already added sugar to the tea. The locals here call it ‘Taya Tareekh’. And there’s a different version of it too. So, it’s called Sesame Kwatia. I think it’s fried fish, noodles, and seasoned. I think it has different sauces. But this one is sweet, right? It’s a sweet dish. The bread and the bun maska, which I’ve eaten here, taste really good. Hello Anna. So, I just met these Annas here. And actually, I told you that this restaurant is in 1946. So, imagine that His Majesty, the Sultan Present, was born on July 15, 1946, and just recently, this country celebrated his 79th birthday . So, this restaurant is that old. I want to show you this. So, that was the beginning of this entire restaurant. I think the oldest photo is already posted here . Rest Anna, your name is Satish Kumar. He is Satish ji. I think we have seen Satish ji in many other videos as well. And when my friend came, I think you must have seen him in his videos too. So you are from Chennai. Chennai. Chennai and most of the people. Anna same. So and your name? Your name? Venkatesh. Venkatesh. So Venkatesh ji is there. Satish ji is here. So you are 35 years. 35 years. Venkatesh ji has been working here for 35 years. And you have been working in this restaurant for 17 years, brother. You are amazing, but you are from India , you were born here. Okay, but you are working here. 40 people, 40 all Indians, 40 all people belong to South India, especially Chennai . And so he is the one. Mr. Venkatesh is one of the senior person. 35 years. So 35 years. He is the one. Oh! And hey friend, there are a lot of people here, actually Sharma is going but this one too, his name is Sir Ji Govind Raj Govind Raj ok and Sir Ji Shiva Shiva so Shiva Govind Raj I think in total there are around 40 people here, so let me show you a little bit of the outside area here, if you want to order something then you can see it, so here you can see His Majesty’s photo also here. So wherever you go to any restaurant or commercial place, buildings, everywhere you will definitely see the photo of the present Sultan, the King here. All the commercial places, business places, you can see it here also. In which roles are they working at different times? You can see them here in different forms, in different uniforms. The rest are also here. Look, Anna people are doing all the work here also. The rest here are soybeans for 1.50, I think around $1.5, there are drinks etc. So there are some local drinks. There are some beverages like this also here. You will get to see all these different types of flavoured breads here brother. These are all different types of bakery items . And see, they have written the price of all of them here. Cheese bun is around $1.5. That means I am talking about local broi dollar. Inti Kelapa, coconut stuffed, is actually around $1. Inti Hitam, look, red beans are mixed in, so it’s around $1. Cheese, butter cake, jam roll. So, there ‘s another branch of this restaurant. This sir just said, “Come, let me show you that too.” So this one is the first one. The oldest one. And this one is a new one. Yes. And the second one is a small branch. Oh, so look, this is actually their second branch. So far, I’ve barely seen two or three two-wheeled bikes in this entire country. Since yesterday, when I entered this country. And I just saw this bike. So you can see this. Ah, this is a sports bike. This is quite an amazing thing for any two-wheeler enthusiast . But you can imagine, the combination of two-wheelers here is very rare and extremely rare. It’s early morning, so all the local people have come here for breakfast. And let me introduce you to the uncle who is here. Hello, hi, hi, namaste, namaste. Oh, thank you so much. Thank you so much. Hi Sir. Oh, oh, thank you, thank you. I am from Mumbai. Mumbai. Either he is the one who started the restaurant. Or the one who started this restaurant. He has a separate photo frame section. Where all the food bloggers from different countries, especially those who have come here, have come here. So, their photo frames are displayed all over here. So, friends, this is my breakfast and the bill that came to me here was around $3.5 Bruneian Dollars. So, I actually reached Brunei yesterday afternoon around 4:00 pm and I took a flight from Malaysia from Kuala Lumpur to Bandarasseri Begaman, the capital of Brunei . I used Air Asia flight. The flight cost was around 9000 rupees. The Brunei visa is a physical visa. So, I already had the visa and how can you get the visa? So, actually there is a Brunei High Commission in India or you can say the main High Commission from where you can get a physical visa for Brunei . You can easily get the visa in New Delhi. The visa fee is around ₹100 Indian Rupees. You will get a single entry Brunei visa. So, after arriving here, my host, Lifang, took me straight from the airport to her house. Before heading home, we went to this restaurant where we had lunch together, because I didn’t even have a proper breakfast. You can see here that the entry is for Brunei. I mentioned that you’re considered an expensive country. The currency here is very strong. So, we went to this restaurant to eat, and the bill for this dish you’re seeing for both of us came to around 20 Brunei dollars . That means, in Indian currency, it’s around 1100 to 12, 1200, 1250 Indian rupees for this much food. I think you can imagine just how expensive Brunei is going to be . Currently, only the visa is cheap, but flights and other things are quite expensive when you arrive here. I’d especially like to show you that the hotels here start at, I think, 2,000-3,000 . You’ll find a couple of hostels listed here, too. But their prices, on average, start at ₹1,500-₹1,600 for just a single bunk bed, and I think you’ll have to share a bathroom. So, guys, the place where I’m standing right now is Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital and largest city of the country of Brunei, its most important landmark. If you zoom out on Google Maps, this is the place where you’ll see the name Bandar Seri Begawan. I’m there. I’m actually standing here. And this is also important because from this very spot, you’ll be able to see all the historical landmarks within this capital city . For example, the large green building you see just behind me is the court here. In a way, I think it’s called the Syariah Court. And the building I showed you just next to it is the Royal Museum. You can visit it inside as well. So, if you look outside the Royal Museum, there ‘s actually a small market. Currently, it’s open in the evening. During the day, the entire market is actually closed. You can see that. No one is visible here for miles. These are all small food and beverage shops , food stalls, and so on. I think around 4:00 or 6:00 pm, all these stalls will be back in operation. Of the world’s top three islands, Greenland is number one. New Guinea is second, and Borneo Island is third. Borneo Island’s land area encompasses a radius of around 748,168 square kilometers, with a population of around 23 million. The entire island of Borneo is divided into three countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei itself. The Radisson Blu Hotel is located in the Brunei capital. You can also see hotels here. You’ll find only this many floors. Everywhere here, too, the entire area has been designated in this manner. It ‘s a no-parking zone, and it’s clearly written there. No one can park. The speed limit in this area, I think, is around 50 kilometers. You can drive at a speed of around 100 km/h . [Music] So, my first impression and first look of this entire country of Brunei is very impressive, very beautiful, very neat and well organized. You can see it’s very beautiful. But the land size of this entire country of Brunei is around 5,700 square kilometers, with a radius of only around 450,000 square kilometers. That means the entire country of Brunei has a population of only around 450,000. So, I think, with a population of 450,000, you’ll find many villages in India with populations much larger than this. So, you can imagine how small this country is. Anyway, Brunei is considered the fourth-smallest country in Asia, especially after the Maldives, Singapore, and Bahrain. That means these three fall into the category of the smallest countries , both in terms of land size and population. So, I’m at a roundabout right now. I think I see a clock tower in front. You can see it in front. There’s a car parked there. It’s a landmark, and in front of it is a bank building. So this is the main city center. The downtown area, where you’ll find mainly a lot of business and commercial spaces, along with ministries and government offices. And further ahead, I think, are all their stadiums and such. But, I can’t see anyone in the distance . I’m inside the entire town, this capital city, and it looks completely empty . You can see it here. So, guys, can you believe that before the 1950s, Brunei, one of the least developed countries, had very little infrastructure, and was also quite isolated, with extreme poverty. But currently , in the year 2025, the currency of this country is one of the 15th strongest currencies in the world and one of the strongest currencies in Asia, which I will show and explain to you right now. So guys, this is the official currency of Brunei country, which is called the Brunei dollar. It is represented by BAD, and after the B, it also has a dollar sign . You might be thinking that this currency is very colorful and colourful. The photo of the present king of Brunei country, i.e. the Sultan, is also printed on it on the front and the back side. You can see that this $100 note is worth ₹6500 at present. Yes, you might not believe it because if the currency of Brunei country is equivalent to Indian currency, then one Brunei dollar is equal to $66.51. Indian dollars, or $1 Brunei dollar, equals our ₹66.51. Exactly, I withdrew this currency from an ATM at the airport. 200 Brunei dollars, or around ₹3500 in Indian currency, was withdrawn. The ATM fee, specifically the forex fee, was ₹555 for withdrawing 200 Brunei dollars. I’d also like to show you the 10-rupee notes. I already have them. So, this is a 10 Brunei dollar. I think it also has a mosque, etc., on the front . If I were to show you the back, the main mosque is printed on it. This currency will look a little pinkish and a little yellow. So, these are all 10-rupee notes. So, you can consider this $10 to be worth around $650 in Indian currency. If you arrive at the airport, you can get a SIM card there. The SIM card I purchased is from Progressive, and there are several other telecom operators listed here. You can see all these options here. You can get a SIM card from any of them. This is the SIM card I purchased. For around 10 Brunei dollars, I got 10 GB of internet for a validity of 7 days . This is a special tourist SIM card. And this was a promotion that I received . Because if you purchase a regular SIM card here, you’ll get just a plain SIM card for 10 Brunei dollars, or ₹650 in Indian currency. You’ll probably get 1 GB or 1.5 GB of internet, or the same amount of calling. This is actually a stadium here. It’s a huge, beautiful stadium, and their main mosque is visible in front. You’ll see their flags everywhere. So, this office in front is the Royal Brunei Airlines office. This building in front also has a hotel and a bank. I think this is some kind of department, which is visible in the building in front. You’ll see almost nothing of cars here throughout the city. You can see as far as the eye can see. I think you’ll see almost zero bikes here. You can see the infrastructure, architecture, and other things of Brunei’s capital city here. So, you’ll find buildings like this in this capital city . Look at the circle in front, this building looks quite colorful. So, these are all actually commercial places. There are buildings here that house shops , some cafes, and restaurants. And like this building in front, it’s called Mayapuri. And below it, there’s Coffee Bean, and all of them have outlets. There ‘s a bank or something called BIBD in front of it. This building, you ‘ll see at the top, is labeled BIBD. The rest of the roads, etc., are quite wide and open. I think a well-planned, well-structured city, especially in developed countries, is something you ‘ll find in Bandarseri, the capital city of Brunei. So, guys, Brunei is my 52nd country that I’ve officially entered. This entire trip started in Thailand, my 49th country. My 50th country was Myanmar, 51st was Malaysia, and finally, 52nd was Brunei. But after entering the country, the lifestyle here was absolutely next-level . Well, if I compare it to Malaysia, I see a different level of vibes and a different kind of infrastructure here. So, the driving side in Brunei is on the left-hand side. You can see here, and brother, wherever you look on the entire road, the only mode of transportation you’ll see is cars. Everyone here has a population of around 450,000, as I told you. So, they all have their own personal vehicles, i.e. cars. So, look in front, there’s Burger King, and this building you can see is Standard Chartered Bank. If I go a little further, there ‘s a commercial place in front, banking-related ATMs, etc. The rest of this area, as you can see, is all business and commercial. And I found another eating joint here. Here, restaurants are called restaurateurs. So, this is what you’ll see here. And here’s the view. The official language of Brunei is Standard Malay. So, you’ll find Standard Malay in Brunei slightly different from other Malays . And exactly, this Malay language is a part of the Austronesian language family, meaning it’s spoken primarily in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and especially in parts of Thailand and Timor. Around 290 million people worldwide speak this language. And look at its scripting, let me show you a little bit. You might think it’s written in Arabic, but it’s actually the Jawi script. The written writing skills and scripting of the Brunei Malay language are visible in Jawi. But it might seem like it’s written in Arabic. Otherwise, if you need to exchange money here, look, there are Brunei or Bruc money changers, similarly, if you need to exchange money in the city center, etc., you can exchange it here. Look in front, there are all these currencies which you can go and exchange them officially there. Rest, there are some shops etc. here. Oh, hello. English and Hindi? Do you speak Hindi? Oh, what is your name in Hindi, sir? Maamul Rishi. Oh, and where are you from? Bangladesh. Okay, from Bangladesh. Okay, have you been working here? Or how many years have you been here? 10 years. 10 years. Oh, what is it? How many people from Bangladesh would be there here, overall population? There are many people. A lot of people. Who have been working here for many years. It is many years. Okay. Many people have come here. Bangladesh. Okay. So, you’ll notice that all the commercial buildings—hotels, restaurants, and food stalls— all these business places have yellow boardings, or banners. The present Sultan, His Majesty, celebrated his 79th birthday here on July 15th . Because of that, all these people have put up these banners in front of their shops as a mark of respect. But there’s one thing, whether it’s a SIM card, a hotel, or a taxi. I think, as a taxi, what people use here is an application. It’s called the Dart application, which is primarily an online application. Just like we use Grap, Uber, or Ola, it works here. You can download it and use it . So, this is a supermarket. I was thirsty for a bottle of water. So this is Bandarseri Begawan, a shopping complex within the capital of Brunei. Small grocery stores are where we’ll find basic household commodities. You can buy them at these places. For now, let’s take a bottle of water. Let’s see how much it’s going to cost me. So, it says, ” 3 Lakes Cooling Water.” It has some kind of branding. So, I’m going to buy it, because I’m feeling very thirsty. So, it ‘s around $1.5. I think this water bottle. So guys, this is a 500 ml bottle of water, which is half a liter. So, it costs 1.5 Brunei dollars, which is ₹100 in Indian currency. The price of one bottle of water is only ₹500. Email: around 100 Indian rupees. Brother, it’s beyond imagination that Brunei is so expensive. Generally speaking, we think America will be expensive, Europe will be expensive. We think Africa will be very poor. Many Asian countries are listed as very cheap and very poor. But many people don’t realize the reality until they visit such countries. For example, Africa, my own experience, is that I have traveled to one of the most expensive countries in the African continent. Similarly, you can see that in regions like Asia and Southeast Asia, you will find many such countries where the standard of living is beyond imagination. You will find such high-class living. So, the building you see in front is an energy hub building in Brunei. I think some energy-related distribution system must be going on here. As for the rest, I think there are public restrooms here. If you We need to access it. This is the building you see in front. And this is the public bus stand here. So let me take a little past the Brunei bus stand and show it to you. And please notice here. I think throughout this city, or even the entire country, wherever you look, on every road, on every street, on every building, you ‘ll see the national flag of Brunei flying everywhere. So, I think this is their public means of transportation, which I’ve just seen, which says Western Line Bus No. 55. So these are all small buses that travel only on specific dedicated lines. So, I’ve also found a hostel here that says Backpackers & Tourists. I think this is for stays. And the price of a single room here, you can see, is 20 Brunei Dollars. A double room costs 30 Brunei dollars, a deluxe room costs 40 Brunei dollars. These are the prices. If you want to stay in a hostel like this within Brunei, you can see it here. Furthermore, there’s a thoroughfare like this, and you can walk through it. Another thing I really liked about this place is how systematically the city is organized. There are proper streetlights everywhere, and pedestrian crossings are all properly constructed. You’ll also find zebra crossings that you can cross after the signal is turned on and off . So, this is the public bus stand of Brunei’s capital city, and these are, I think, their local buses that run within the city. Oh, what’s up, sir? Hello, hello. What’s your name, sir? Aftab. Aftab, where are you from? Uttar Pradesh. From Uttar Pradesh. What’s up? Where in UP? Jaunpur in UP. Jaunpur. Hey, I turned out to be your neighbor from Prayagraj. So, look, this is Aftab ji, who hails from Jaunpur city in Uttar Pradesh. This Aftab ji has been living here for around 10 years . So, you drive here, and how did you like the weaving? Very good. Very good. So, how many people from Uttar Pradesh are there here? I don’t have an idea like that, let’s assume there will be 1000 plus. 1000 plus people from Uttar Pradesh. Yes, yes. Okay. And approximately how many Indians are there? There will be a lot of Indians. You said only a thousand people from Uttar Pradesh. There are only a thousand from Uttar Pradesh. Actually, there will be several thousand Indians here. There are a lot of people. Okay. Okay. So, this bus goes to Syria, right? Yes, yes. Syria, the town ahead. Yes, yes. From Syria, let’s assume the bus is 2025 km. Then we get to Malaysia. Yes, the border that goes further, goes to Syria. So, how many kilometers is it from here? 96 , 96 kilometers. And how much is the fare from here to there? $6, six Brun dollars , sir. So, this is the fare here. Come, let’s sit and talk, since you’re from Allahabad, come. So, friend, let’s go. It was quite sunny, it was hot, so let’s order some cold drinks. No, no, thank you, thank you, Atab ji. Just thank you, so this is Sir ji. So, where do the public buses run here? Look, there are only two or three routes here. Well, not many. Yes, for example, if you want to go to Muwara, the port area from where the ships depart, where the ferries depart, take the 37 from there. The 37 bus stop is over there. They leave the stop empty here. They park here. It doesn’t run from here. No, no, look at the bus stand in front. You can go straight from the state road, there will be five or six buses parked there. And which is the second line? One, you’ll go to Muwara. The second, to go to Gardang, is Gadgang. Yes, Gadgang. The third, Sangam. Okay, you can also go to Gardang by that. No, no, not that 37. To go to Gardang, you’ll get zero-one. You’ll get two or three. There are three or four buses. Look, it’s not like our rule here. Yes. You’re from Allahabad, right? Yes, yes. Then, like what we have here, there’s this bus stand. Now, let’s go from here, go to Jaunpur. Go to Azamgarh. There’s only one bus stand here. There are only three or four. It’s a small country here. There are many other areas where buses don’t run. Okay. Yes. There are no buses anywhere else. Now, if you want to go to this side, you’ll have to take a boat. This is a Kampon area, so yes you have to go by boat, this new bridge has just been built, yes yes yes, it has been inaugurated for a maximum of four years, before that there is a district here in Tamru, yes yes, if you have to go there, you will have to go by boat, even now it is the same, yes still, okay, if you have a personal car, then you can go on that road, till date no one is putting any tender, and then there is no public left, very little, very little, end of the story, so how much will be the fare of these local buses, it will be one dollar everywhere. $1 each means ₹66, India’s ₹66 is 67. 67, okay, the current rate has become high. Its rate is high, how much will your salary be on an average, not your average, you tell me on an average. Let’s assume 600. 600 dollar is the starting salary. If you are starting or last, no matter how much you have, no matter how much experience you have. Yes, the salary here is much less than that. Now you are getting to know what is the culture of our people. You are residents of Allahabad. If you go from one locality to another even a small issue can arise. The only thing is that you have just come from Allahabad. Now any issue can arise here, if someone tries to touch you and you are roaming around then something happens. Yes, today is my first day only. I have come out. Yes, so you can do anything, there is no crime here for some days. Absolutely 0% 0% yes, how are the other people here? Very good. They are nice. And how do they behave with us Indians? It’s been 10 years, we haven’t had any cases, nothing has happened. The police here are very good, everything is fine. No one has any problems. Now think about it, if they bothered us, we would be able to drive like this. You see, there are all kinds of problems in India . If we get into an accident on the road, if we don’t run, then you can understand that they will kill us. They don’t think that this guy made a mistake. The police will understand it, the court will understand it, not there. The public will decide. I’ll fight this car right here, I ‘ll kill him right here, in a luxury car. No matter how expensive it is, I’ll lose it. Even if the police come, the driver won’t say anything to us. Everyone will stand in front. They’ll shake hands, they’ll stand by. Now the police or the insurance will tell him whose fault it is. Anyway, there are cameras everywhere here. You’re under surveillance anyway. Anything you do will be caught wrong. There are cameras all over the city. Then you just move on. Let’s meet tomorrow. We’ll take you around. Okay. Okay, then, there’s some time left. I also went out on a bus like this today. Take the number plate for a walk around. When you’re here, you shouldn’t even pay for a walk. Oh, no, no, nothing like that. No, no, no problem. We think for ourselves, Indian economics. Oh, what’s the big deal? Now, I went and saw a big bus here. You can see this in front. This is their main small bus stand here. This is actually the port point. From here, there’s what ‘s called Campong Ayer, a water village. This is the area around it, from where you can take a ferry or boat to that area. I’ll show you that sometime later. So, brother, you can go and see this. I also saw some two-wheeled vehicles here. So, this belongs to Pizza Hut, which I think these vehicles are used for pizza delivery . So, you ‘ll see the number plates on the bikes and other vehicles here, like this . There’s a black screen at the back , displaying alphabets and numerics in white. So, these are all bikes and scooters. You can see this. Scooters and the like are being used here, especially for food delivery. [Music] So, guys, I just brought a really cool photo frame that says “Brunoi Daru Salam Karke.” Behind it, you’ll see a beautiful, massive mosque. People come here and take a lot of photos with this very beautiful, impressive, massive mosque. This lovely, impressive, massive mosque you see behind is called the Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque, which is dedicated to the former Sultan of Brunei. The 28th Sultan of Brunei is dedicated to him. “Brunoi Daru Salam,” I think, is also written in their Jawi script above . So, I told you about Brunei’s official language, which is Standard Mal. But regional dialects are also widely spoken here . For example, Tutong, Bileth, and Chinese are also spoken by the locals. You’ll find them speaking. The official religion here is Islam, and mainly, people here follow Sunni Islam. Around 82.1% of the population follows Sunni Islam, which is their entire population. After that, you’ll find 6.7% of people following Christianity . Around 6.3% are Buddhists, and the remaining 4.9% are indigenous peoples. Brunei also has an almost entirely Hindu community, which is mainly considered part of the Indian-dominated community. You’ll see people from the southern part of India who have been living here since the 1950s. There are also two Hindu temples here, located in different parts. If I get a chance, I’ll try to take you all to see them . So, man, it’s so hot here right now. The sun’s burning my entire face . So, this photo frame you just saw in front of me, right next to this photo frame, there’s a small cafe where I’m sitting and relaxing. And this mosque you see in front of me will actually open after 4:30. I think it’s closed for a few hours during the day. So, I’m waiting for it to reopen so we can go explore inside this mosque. [Music] So, look what’s written. Be part of the solution, not the pollution. You’ll find signs like this all over the country, clearly stating how much you need to pay attention to hygiene, sanitation, pollution, and all these things . Whether you’re a local citizen of this country, a foreigner, or a tourist . And look, everything here is systematic and automatic. So, this entire car park is there. If you want to park your car inside, look at this: there’s an automatic machine installed here. You have to pay, it will be scanned. An automatic slip will be generated, and then you can exit and enter from here. So, in this country, especially in the capital city, you’ll find malls and supermarkets like this. You’ll see this very lovely, beautiful building. So, this is actually a mini supermarket here. After walking from this photo-framed park area, I ‘ve just come to this river area, and this is the main, famous water village . Actually, Cronoi Country became part of the British Protectorate in 1888 and later gained independence from the UK on January 1, 1984. So, the government here is an absolute monarchy. This means that this country is ruled by the current King Sultan, who governs the entire country. From this perspective, both Sharia law and British common law are practiced here. In 2014, it became the first country in the entire Southeast Asian region to officially implement Islamic Sharia law. Therefore , you’ll find all of these things here. Because of this, the law and order here is quite strict. Specifically, in terms of intoxicants, whether it’s tobacco, alcohol, or any other intoxicant, they are completely banned here. They are restricted, and if you’re found using them, whether you’re a local resident or a foreigner, officially in public, you can be punished, imprisoned, fined, and even face the death penalty. So, you have to follow all these things very closely. All this you see behind me, these are supermarkets here, brother. Imagine the kind of supermarkets in this country. You’ll see large trees planted naturally everywhere, and they’ve carefully maintained dividers, proper gardening, and so on. You won’t see any of these houses, either small or large, here. Commercial spaces are mostly two stories. Some buildings are three, four, five, or six stories tall. These are all hotels and commercial spaces. This building doesn’t look very unique. Its height is n’t very high, but its width seems narrow. I saw this monument, it’s globe-shaped. And its representational form is something like this. And the jetty at the back of it. The area where people take ferry boats to the Water Village is that part. In the surrounding area, you’ll find numerous malls, supermarkets , small commercial spaces, and buildings. The current king of Brunei, the Sultan, is known as the 29th Sultan of this country. His Majesty, his name, is Sultan Hassanal Bolkhia. I hope I’m pronouncing him correctly. He is the 29th Sultan of this country and was born on July 15, 1946, exactly one year before our country gained independence. He became the Sultan of this country in 1967. Since independence, i.e., in 1984, when this country gained independence from the British Empire, he has been the Prime Minister. Even the Sultan of this country holds the title of One of the Few Remaining Absolute Monarchs in the World. And she’s also known as the second longest-remaining monarch in the world, following the UK’s Queen Elizabeth II. Whenever I cross a zebra crossing like this, I ‘m trying to walk. Literally, everyone in a car stops their vehicle. Even in some places, proper signals are installed for crossing. When the signal is on, we can walk and cross. But in many places, there are no proper signals, and if you try to walk, everyone in the car will stop for you. This was quite a unique experience. When I was in Myanmar recently, I saw that no matter where you cross, you won’t find any respect or honor for pedestrians . No one will stop their vehicle for you. But here, I found this really cool. You’ll see everyone stopping their vehicle for you. You can especially see the dressing sense here, whether it’s male or female, especially in the case of females. From what I’ve been able to observe, you’ll mostly see people wearing Islamic clothing, while men will be seen wearing normal Western clothing. These walking trails are specifically designed for walking. This is where only you can walk, and there’s a separate section for motorists. I’ve noticed this everywhere. You’ll also see that the dividers in the middle are painted red, a combination of white and red is visible throughout the road. Look at this section too, it’s all red for walking . So, it’s about to be around 3:30. It’s lunch time. So let’s go have a bite to eat and then I’ll show you the Jalan Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque in the city center. [Music] [Music] [Music] So guys, it’s about to be around 7:30 in the evening according to local Brunei time. Today is my day one here in Brunei. I’m staying with a local Bruneian family called Lifang, my cow surfing host, who is actually hosting me at their home. So this is my hosting place in Brunei’s capital city. The local family that’s hosting me, Lifang, it’s their entire house. So they ‘ve given me a separate private bedroom . So this is the sofa and all that. And the best part is the Wi-Fi router, so I have Wi-Fi access. And you can see this in Brunei Your Ultimate Destination Guide. This is actually the entire map. And Lifang, my host, is actually Buddhist. Because of Buddhism, you’ll see a statue of Lord Buddha here. I’ve kept my luggage, laptop bag, etc. here. I’ve just hung these clothes. And this is their entire large living room. There’s a sofa, etc. I think there’s space for dining, etc., and on this side is the kitchen. It’s two floors. I think their entire family, Lifang, lives upstairs. And this is the entry point. The entrance gate. We enter from here. So, the houses here are quite large. I mean, I think, as I was coming from the airport to their house, I noticed that everyone’s houses were so large. And their house is a little bit away from the city center. I ‘m already staying here from the city center. So today I just rest and now I I’ll see you tomorrow early morning. [music]
