Hello, I’m Satori. I’m at Oyamadai Station today. On the Ōimachi Line. Today I’m heading to a dessert shop that’s been on my list for ages. It’s the closest one to this station. But first, lunch. First time here, so we’ll wander the shopping street. The name is cute—“Happy Road.” Spotted a cute baked-goods shop by the tracks. Closed today. Lucky-cat cookies. The mascot looks like a rabbit. Look, it has the character for “rice” on it. About 200–300 yen each. A stone-paved shopping street linking the station and Ring Road 8. This shop’s name is clever. I’m tired before we even go in. They even have congee. Looks like Chinese food. There’s a little slope up ahead. Found an apple-pie place. You need to reserve for the apple pie. Not many people out on this weekend. Thinking about this fresh-pasta place. Let’s check the menu. No set meals today, à la carte only. Short-staffed, it seems. The restaurant across from it looks good too. French toast, ribs, coffee. Wow, look at C. That chicken steak looks so good. E looks great too. Angel-shrimp tomato cream pasta. The set drink even lets you pick red or white wine. We’ll go with this place. They use specialty ingredients from Tokyo. Such a creative calendar. For drinks we both chose tea. We added a salad. Pretty big plate. Veggies are pesticide-free, grown in-house. I ordered the signature pork ribs. Smells amazing. Bigger portion than I expected. Comes with some veggies. Staff said the cartilage on the bone is edible too. It comes with rice or bread. I chose bread. I got the angel-shrimp tomato cream pasta. As soon as I cut it, it fell right apart. I haven’t ordered ribs in years. Pork ribs are kind of pricey. So tender and juicy. Delicious. This part’s the cartilage. Turns out the two dishes we picked are both signatures. I was about to get chicken. You talked me into switching to ribs. Because I wanted some too. I think this pasta is fresh pasta as well. Soft and springy. Not super tomato-forward. Mostly the shrimp flavor. There are three shrimp inside. Already peeled—ready to eat. Very flavorful shrimp. I wouldn’t mind a few more. Maybe because it’s raining today— not many people around. Even though it’s a holiday. Nice and easy to stroll. And no line for lunch. Your rib sauce goes with everything. So good. Yeah—on BBQ, grilled corn, grilled chicken thighs—everything would smell great. For this amount, the price feels fair. This chunk was huge, and this side is another big chunk. If I crave ribs again, I’d come back here. When we finished and stepped out, it was raining. Your ribs…were great. Time to head to the dessert shop I wanted. About a two-minute walk. Heading toward Kanpachi (Ring Road 8). This place looks nice too. Pizza or pasta for ¥1,100 tax-in, with salad and all-you-can-drink soft drinks! After lunch the wind and rain picked up. Let’s duck inside and wait out the rain. Should be the one on the right. A long-standing patisserie by the famed pastry chef Katsuhiko Kawada. Three parties ahead of us. No time limit on seats, so the wait time’s uncertain, they said. It’s called a “French Pastry Museum.” So many kinds of sweets! They also serve savory dishes. Those look nice too. They even have chicken legs. These that look like cakes are actually ice-cream desserts. Let’s decide what to get while we wait. Cakes show alcohol content—so thoughtful. Haven’t been this torn in a while… This pear cake is unique. A colorful candy corner. Nougat. The chocolates are beautiful too. So many baked goods—I’m overwhelmed. Lots I’ve never seen before. Feels fresh and fun. They even sell bread. “Pastry museum” is right—there’s so much here. Still lost in all the sweets when our number was called. We got seats after a 30-minute wait. Browsing inside was so fun the time just flew. I want to try everything. So many first-time items. Plenty of unique baked sweets. Here’s the dine-in drink menu. I chose the fresh-cream fruit shortcake. I got a slice of opera cake. We also ordered a canelé. We both went with iced tea. The whipped cream is so good. My favorite cream lately, by far. The sponge is super moist. Melts away the moment it’s in your mouth. There’s another layer inside— a custard with a pudding-like texture. Fairly firm. Looks like five layers total. Feels sturdier than I expected when cutting. This is really tasty. The firm part is probably the sponge layer. Slightly grainy texture. Moist, with a faint grain to it. Strong notes of liqueur and coffee. The coffee has a little acidity. The chocolate isn’t too sweet— more about cacao aroma. Overall, great balance. This cake is really good. Worth lining up in the rain. Didn’t expect a rainy day to be this crowded. Having full meals probably helps draw people. They do savory dishes too. The table next to us was having lunch here. My sponge was on the sweet side. Felt a bit sweet toward the end. The outside is super crisp. And so fragrant. Inside is soft and slightly chewy. We picked up a few things to take home. Honey-and-almond nougat. And a baked sweet called “Saint Lorrain.” When we left, the cakes were almost gone. The lady next to us had two cakes all to herself—
I hope I can enjoy cake like that when I’m older too. The rain stopped. At noon we walked from the station to this lunch spot, then over to the dessert shop—here. Right outside is Kanpachi, Ring Road No. 8. Now we’re walking back to the bakery. This one here. Run by a French MOF baker and a Japanese bread company. There’s an eat-in area. Bread-shaped cushions. They specialize in breads made with buckwheat flour. Too bad the buckwheat baguette is sold out. Found my husband’s favorite—almond thin cookies (tuiles). This place is known for buckwheat breads.
They make a buckwheat baguette, but it’s gone today. Only the regular baguette left. We also got a flan (French custard tart). It kind of looks like a tart. They say it’s even better frozen. We’ll freeze it at home and try it later. From 4 to 6 p.m., cars can’t enter the shopping street. No wonder it suddenly got quiet. Next time we plan to visit Kuhonbutsu, the neighboring station. We went to Oyamadai a while back, and today we’re in Kuhonbutsu next door. I want to visit a famous bakery here. You can see it right next to the station exit. That one across the street.
We came once when it first opened. Back then the line reached the other side. It was packed. We lined up along the approach to Jōshinji Temple. It was a long line. I think we waited 20–30 minutes. Time flies. Turns out it’s already been five years. The owner is a World Bread Champion. I remember the baguette being great. There’s a meringue-sweets section inside. Five pieces, right?
Yes. Maybe because we came early today, it’s less crowded than before. The sliced baguette looks like a cute caterpillar. They bag it back into a baguette shape. One croissant. The crust looks so crisp and fragrant. A rye-and-red-bean bun. I saw at least three kinds of anpan. This melon pan looks really pale. You don’t see them this white often. This one’s a baked curry bread. Baked feels healthier than fried. Across the street is its sister shop. A gluten-free bakery. They make fresh sandwiches too. Not many varieties, but everything’s gluten-free. We bought too much bread—let’s try a scone too. Got one gluten-free scone. The shape kind of looks like a pineapple cake. Heading back to the shopping street by the station. For lunch, this soba place. A local favorite founded in 1937. Their house-made hand-cut soba. They have set meals too. I got sukiyaki nabeyaki udon. I went with hand-cut soba
and a plate of tempura. Smells wonderful—
they use Kuroge Wagyu beef. The udon has a nice chew. So good.
I was debating a cold dish. But the hot-pot udon won me over. Same—love nabeyaki udon. The soba doesn’t snap in one bite. Slightly firm. Pretty tasty. The batter’s thick, but the shrimp are big too. Aromatic and crisp. Filled up in no time, mostly regulars. You can feel it’s a well-loved local spot. The place on the right is the bakery’s café we saw earlier. We’ve bought from this bakery in Sangenjaya and Sugamo too. A handmade tofu shop. I saw several “Beware of crows” notices at the entrances. Looks like there are many crows on this street. I want to visit the dessert shop on the same street as the bakery. Opened in 2020 by a pastry chef who worked at Michelin-starred restaurants in France. Mango! A whole-peach tart. If the cake is good, I’ll try the baked sweets next. We each picked a cake. Can’t wait for tea time today. It’s been so long since I had mango, and seeing such a big piece here, I had to get this cake. Tosa mango from Kōchi Prefecture. The mango is quite good. The middle is probably a white-cheese cream. The tart shell is my favorite crisp type. I chose a peach shortcake. Around Kuhonbutsu, Oyamadai, and nearby Todoroki, there are several renowned, high-level patisseries. Do a sweets tour along the Ōimachi Line like this and your eyes and taste buds will both be happy. Thanks for watching to the end. See you in the next video.

Satori

Summer ending soon… Tokyo is nice to welcome autumn
thank you for the nice video
