Hi everyone! It’s Naru. This time, we’re in the southern area of Iwate Prefecture, visiting Hanamaki and Tono! Iwate Prefecture is divided into a Central Area, a Southern Area, a Northern Area, and a Coastal Area. It’s made up of these four areas. In each of these areas, you’ll find the great nature of Mt. Iwate, also known as Nanbu Fuji, and Hachimantai in the Central Area. The World Heritage site of Hiraizumi in the Southern Area, Hanamaki, the hometown of Kenji Miyazawa, and Tono, the Village of Folktales. The World Heritage Goshono Site in the Northern Area, and the stunning Jodogahama Beach in the Coastal Area. These are just some of Iwate’s representative tourist spots scattered around. Hanamaki and Tono are towns in the Southern Area, connected by the JR Kamaishi Line! This line is affectionately known as the “Ginga Dreamline Kamaishi Line,” and it was the inspiration for Kenji Miyazawa’s “Night on the Galactic Railroad.” On the way from Hanamaki to Tono, there’s the beautiful five-arched Meganebashi Bridge, which is illuminated at night. First, Hanamaki is the town where the poet and children’s story author Kenji Miyazawa was born and raised! It’s the setting for many of his masterpieces, like “Night on the Galactic Railroad” and “The Restaurant of Many Orders”! In Hanamaki, there’s a hot spring district called “Hanamaki 12 Hot Springs,” with unique hot springs like Osawa Onsen, which Kenji Miyazawa also loved, and Fujisan Ryokan at Namari Onsen, which is reminiscent of the bathhouse in “Spirited Away.” There are many unique hot springs scattered about! Tono is known for Kunio Yanagida’s “The Legends of Tono” (“Tono Monogatari”). It’s a village of folklore! Let’s talk about access! From Tokyo to Shin-Hanamaki Station, it’s about 2.5 to 3 hours. Hanamaki to Tono by car is about 40 minutes. Hanamaki to Tono by the JR Kamaishi Line is about 1 hour. Wow! It’s a 10-level swirl!! This soft-serve ice cream is huge, isn’t it?! Apparently, you eat it with chopsticks! Oh, really? Sweet and delicious!! Eating it with chopsticks is a new one! It’s fun eating with chopsticks! I think I can actually eat it pretty neatly! Surprisingly so. It’s surprisingly firm. It looks like it’s going to melt, but it’s not. It’s in a delicate state. Amazing! This diner is so retro, isn’t it? And it can fit so many people! One of the staff members is wearing a really cute outfit. A waitress uniform. Whoa! This one is crazy too! Gotta slurp it up! lol What should we do after this? Something related to Kenji Miyazawa? He’s from Hanamaki City, right? Let’s go on a Kenji Miyazawa-themed trip! Do you know about Kenji Miyazawa? Did you study up? Just a little! Not everything, but I did a little bit of prep! “Night on the Galactic Railroad,” right? I studied up on “Night on the Galactic Railroad.” It was difficult, but I finished it! This is a facility where you can experience the diverse world of Kenji Miyazawa, who was both a poet and a children’s story author. Inside, you can see his beloved cello and the original handwritten manuscript for “Night on the Galactic Railroad.” Through these valuable exhibits, you can connect with the world of “Ihatov” that Kenji envisioned. So cute! Is this famous? It’s from “The Cat’s Office.” It’s a character from a short story called “The Cat’s Office.” You don’t know about the “Kiln Cat”!? You don’t know about the hardworking “Kiln Cat”!! I do not!! You don’t know the Kiln Cat!! The Kiln Cat is a story about living life with all your might! To put it simply. This is a memorial museum where you can learn about Kenji Miyazawa’s life and works! Admission is ¥350. We’ve just seen the memorial museum! Inside, you’re not allowed to upload videos to YouTube and such. So there’s no footage, but we enjoyed it personally. They had displays about Kenji Miyazawa’s life and works. They did. It wasn’t the original artwork, but they had copies of his manuscript paper, and there were explanations about how each piece was written. It made me realize that Kenji Miyazawa was very intelligent. He knew a lot about religion, too. It seems so! He also seemed to be knowledgeable about agriculture. We were able to learn things like that. When I saw Kenji Miyazawa’s handwriting, I felt he was a person who wrote with a gentle hand. His illustrations had a warmth to them! His handwriting! With his warm drawings, I felt that he was a very compassionate person. That’s how I felt! Alright, next, let’s go to the Fairytale Village. “The Restaurant of Many Orders” actually exists! This place recreates a magical world where the charming characters from Kenji Miyazawa’s fairytales might appear at any moment. It’s a “fun-learning facility” for everyone from kids to adults! At “Kenji’s School,” you can experience the world of his fairytales through five zones: “Fantastic Hall,” “Space,” “Sky,” “Earth,” and “Water.” Admission is ¥350. Since I studied up, I feel like I understand the stories better now? lol Kenji named this place the “English Coast” because the exposed mudstone layer reminded him of the white chalk cliffs of the Dover Strait in England! I wonder if Kenji Miyazawa saw this same view? It began 600 years ago with the discovery of a white monkey healing its wounds. Fujisan Ryokan, established in Namari Onsen, appears in Kenji Miyazawa’s fairytale “The Bears of Mt. Nametoko.” It’s the only hot spring inn mentioned! This is amazing! There’s a hallway inside! There’s a hallway inside the room! It’s a very relaxing room.☺️ There is no bath, toilet, or sink. I can see a waterfall! Apparently, Kenji Miyazawa also bathed in this hot spring. Oh, did he? He had relatives connected to this place, so he used to come here often. It appeared in one of his stories, you know. Namari Onsen appeared in “The Bears of Mt. Nametoko”! I read it properly, you see. So it’s really in there. Yes. There are so many hot springs here, and all of them are free-flowing from the source. There are 5 springs, and all 4 baths are 100% free-flowing from the source.🙆♀️ Shall we go take a dip right away? We’ll be having dinner in a semi-private room! Let’s eat! A Hanamaki specialty! Hakkin-ton pork shabu-shabu! I can’t wait to eat it!♪ Looks delicious. There are lots of appetizers, too. They look tasty. Hakkin-ton pork (Platinum Pork). It’s so tender! It doesn’t have any of that gamey pork smell at all. It’s delicious! You can tell it’s a local specialty! Delicious. The vegetables too. The vegetables are delicious too! Because there’s kelp in it, it has a slight kelp aroma? The broth is flavorful. Delicious. Did it feel like platinum? It went beyond platinum to gold! Is gold above platinum? I don’t know, I have no idea. It’s delicious. It’s platinum-level! I’m going to eat the platinum beef. It’s platinum pork! It’s pork. Platinum pork. It is truly platinum! What does that mean? It’s the platinum that surpasses gold! It goes copper, silver, gold, then platinum, right? What was that about? That was really not funny! I suddenly started speaking in an Osaka dialect! lol It’s another beautiful day for our second day♪ How was the bath? The hot spring! How was the onsen? It was amazing! Really amazing!! There are four hot spring baths! The first one we went into yesterday was the beautifully renovated one. It was so nice! After that, we went to the outdoor bath. The one with separate sections for men and women. Right, the open-air one. Katsura-no-yu. There was a river flowing right in front of it. You know how there’s that outdoor bath? From the outdoor bath, if you go down one more level, there’s another one right next to the river. An outdoor bath. The women’s side didn’t have that! Maybe you just didn’t notice it? It was just an indoor bath and an outdoor one. Can you reach your hand into the river? No, not quite, but it’s that close! Wow! I had no idea! And the other one was, of course… Shirozaru? Shirozaru-no-yu (White Monkey Bath). That was incredible. So unique. I’d never seen anything like it. It’s deep, isn’t it? It was so deep! It’s a hot spring where you stand up while bathing! It was a bit scary going in at first. And since it’s so deep, I felt like I was floating. Oh, true. Like I was just floating around. That one didn’t have any showers. I guess it’s just for soaking. It felt very traditional, which was really nice. The bathing hours are quite specific, so for women, it’s best to plan when you’re going to go! Bacon and eggs 🤤 The illustration on the natto packet is cute!! Next, we’re heading to Tono City! Making a quick detour. Meganebashi Bridge (Miyamorigawa Bridge) It looks like Giovanni and Campanella might appear on a steam locomotive!! Let’s eat! I’ll have the special lamb loin! Looks delicious! I’m surprised! About what? Honestly, I was thinking, “It’s just lamb,” but this is amazing! I totally underestimated lamb! lol So good! It’s not fatty! It’s mostly lean meat, so it’s really satisfying, and so delicious!! Masa, you should eat too! Oh, it’s delicious! It is, right? The… uh… of the lamb… what do you call it, that unique… Flavor? What is it… Smell? I actually quite like it! It’s not overly strange, right? It’s not gamey! It’s delicious! What is it? I’m trying to be careful not to steal your food review lines! lol This is a facility where you can experience the world of the masterpiece “The Legends of Tono,” featuring kappa and zashiki-warashi, through sound and video. At the “Tono-za” theater, storytellers tell old tales from “The Legends of Tono,” beginning with “Mukashi, attazu monaa…” in a rich local dialect. The storyteller’s tale was interesting, wasn’t it? They are people who tell the old tales of Tono in the local dialect! So, at the “Denshoen” we’re going to next, they apparently have a place that enshrines Oshirasama! What was Oshirasama again? It was the first story the storytellers told us! About the girl who fell in love with a horse, but her parents were against it. A farmer’s daughter loved a horse she cared for. When her father found out, he got angry and killed the horse. The daughter clung to the dead horse’s neck and ascended to heaven with it. Later, she appeared in her father’s dream, gave him silkworms, and taught him how to raise them. These two became the god known as Oshirasama. The storyteller told us that tale, so let’s go see the place where Oshirasama is enshrined! How do they end the stories again? Dondo hare. Let’s end with that! Dondo hare! Wow, amazing! They’re growing hops here! What! It has a history of over 50 years! I had no idea. This is all hops. Should we buy some to take home? I’d like to. Seeing this makes you want some. As a souvenir. It’s this tall! Isn’t it high? It is. Where are we going now? To Kappabuchi! Kappa? It’s the place where kappa were said to live. Even now, they’re still searching for kappa here. Huh? If you find a kappa, there’s supposedly a reward. Really? It would be great if we found one today. Probably not in the middle of the day. We’d have to go early in the morning, I guess? Here you can try “kappa fishing”!! We didn’t have much luck catching one… but… we witnessed the moment of a major discovery!! We met the person who caught a kappa!! That’s amazing. I realized that kappa are surprisingly small. That’s what I thought. I thought they were about the size of a person. And he was able to lift it with both hands. That’s incredible. This will be the top story on Yahoo! News tomorrow. It was an unexpected moment. Amazing. Riding this wave of excitement, let’s head to the next stop, Denshoen! The setting for “The Legends of Tono,” Denshoen is a place where you can experience the traditional lifestyle of Tono. The highlights are the Nanbu Magariya farmhouse, a national important cultural property, and the breathtaking “Oshira-do,” which is lined with a thousand Oshirasama dolls! We heard the story of Oshirasama, didn’t we? Apparently, they are enshrined in the back here. Is this Oshirasama? The god of sight. The god of sericulture. And the god who brings news. It’s a little scary… It’s said that if you write your wish on a piece of cloth, dress an Oshirasama doll with it, and pray, your wish will come true! The Kappa-yaki was delicious~🥰 Whoa! So beautiful!! The rice paddies and the town are so pretty. You can see how the rice fields are divided. Yeah! The plots. I wonder if we can see the places we went today? Like Denshoen? Seems likely. It’s over here, right? To the left. Yeah. It looks like we could see it. There’s a river, and we caught a kappa, right? Someone else was fishing for it! Is Denshoen along the river? This would be amazing in the morning, too! Definitely! You said there’s a sea of clouds! Apparently, it gets very crowded during the morning sea of clouds!! It’s truly beautiful! This is exactly “Ihatov”! Hanamaki was great, and Tono is wonderful, too! Thank you for watching!

東北を随分巡りましたね,東北旅巡り毎回楽しみです。東北は中心地には明治大正時代の建物が残り、中心地から離れれば自然が広がってるし癒されますね。東北と言えば宮沢賢治の童話の世界に飛びこんでしまう。遠野は中学生時代に柳田國男の遠野物語に夢中になりました。遠野も田畑など緑が広がる日本の原風景が残ってますね。物語に出てくる河童釣れませんでしたね😊今回も大自然残る東北と美味しい食べ物を観させて頂きました。お疲れ様でした。

今回うちらの岩手青森ドライブも陸前高田から遠野経由で北上に向かったのです。
かま猫知らないの！？ってまささんイジメてましたが普通そんなに知らないでしょ！笑
鉛温泉に泊まったんですね！
去年の同じ時期に大沢温泉に泊まりましたがこちらもおすすめ！次回は是非！
エアコンが無く扇風機だけだったんで最初びっくりしましたが涼しくて全然問題なかったです。
遠野はラムが有名なんですか？
きゅうりでカッパ釣りやったんですね！どんな心境でしたか？笑
なるまささん、東北好きですねぇ～!🤗。いきなり箸ソフトとクリソー食べるシーンでしたが、とっても美味しそうでした!😋😋。以前地元の喫茶店名物にジャンボクリームソーダ🥤🍸なるものがあり、その名の如く特大クリソーでしたが、１分でソーダが滝の如く溢れ出し、殆どの方がテーブルをソーダの洪水にしていたのを思い出しました!🙀😿😭🤣。「なんやねんそれ、ほんま面白くないわ」は、何故かハマってしまいました🤭。宮澤賢治、荘厳な温泉等歴史のある安らぎが感じられる、何処か懐かしい風景は本当に良いですね!😉👍。

花巻・遠野まで足を延ばされたのですね。
花巻や遠野を訪れる際は、おっしゃる通り宮沢賢治や柳田国男の予習をしたら一層楽しめますね。
でも、どうして幻想的な小説や逸話がこの地方に多いのでしょうか?? もしやルーツは河童にあるとか・・。
鉛温泉も古風ながら、凛とした雰囲気が感じられていいです。
ひと昔は花巻電鉄が運行されていて、確か鉛温泉までの馬面電車が有名でした。
あと、遠野〜釜石の仙人峠もドライブされたら良かったかと。
今は高速道路開通していますが、国道で釜石鉱山跡を通ります。
それこそ昔は仙人峠越えがかなりの難所でした。
東北地方はなかなか行く機会がありませんが、なるまささんレポで増々興味が湧きました。

宮沢賢治と言えば有名な「雨ニモマケズ」の詩が好きです。
童話村は幻想的で素晴らしいですね。

宿の夕食時になるさんが言った「なんやねんそれ～全然おもろないわ」の言葉。昔の彼女によく言われました。あのエセ関西弁がｗたま～にイラっとしたのをｗ思い出しました。なるさんに言われたら笑顔でツッコミ返すけど(^^;)。

最後の高清水展望台は眺望が最高でしたね。雲海が見れるとの事でしたが、今回は見れなくて残念😢 また訪れる時あれば、その時は見れるといいですね😊

その昔、遠野の里は湖の下だったので、雲海が湧くと、いにしえの風景を連想出来ますよ☺️
JR釜石線沿いの旅ですね。数年前、「出川哲郎の充電させてもらえませんか」でも沿線旅をしてましたが、その当時はＳＬが走ってました。また、釜石線は出川の大叔父叔父？が作ったとも語ってました。私は遠野は縁あって何度も行ってますが、紹介されてたオシラサマやカッパ淵以外にも、続石や五百羅漢など、妖しい雰囲気の観光スポットが多い気がします。
カッパ捕獲許可証はゲットしましたか？笑

I see that you filmed this video on August first and second. The first of August is the national day of my country (Switzerland). For me, its not a special day. I just enjoy that its a holiday. My 2 brothers have dogs, and they hate the fireworks because its very stressful to them.
So far, I am at minute 14 into your video, and I like it a lot. The quality of your videos is very good Naru-san and Masa-san. I like to travel around Japan thanks to your videos. And I like it a lot, that you are mostly visiting non mainstream places. This is the Japan I love, and I like to discover new places, thanks to you, which I hopefully can visit soon.

河童に会えるかなぁ😂
メガネ橋、賢治ゆかりの地、銀河ステーション、宮沢童話村、カッパ座敷わらし、河童ぶち等など今は亡き兄夫婦と観光しました。本当に懐かしい思いに駆られました。兄たちとの事が思い浮かんできて胸にジーンときますね。なる、まささん有難うございました。
花巻のマルカンビル大食堂ついこの間初めて行ってきて割り箸で食べるビッグなソフトクリームを初めて食べたけどめちゃくちゃ美味かった！それでいて値段は350円とリーズナブルなのは魅力的だった。この建物はかなり古いので近い将来取り壊されるかもしれないが、リニューアルしたとしても食堂のメニューは絶対そのまま残して欲しいと思った！
元盛岡市民で現在は遠野に隣接する沿岸に住む者です。遠野には河童がいる・・・・かもしれません。例えば遠野の街を歩いていて、路地から出てくるのは猫またはちょっと珍しいところではタヌキやキツネ。固定観念が邪魔してそう見えているだけで実は・・・。
