Up above there is paradise Down below are Suzhou and Hangzhou When you come to Hangzhou, a paradise on earth You must not miss the West Lake West Lake was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011 Becoming a poetic and picturesque land of the East that the whole world yearns for But this time we will get away from the bustling crowds And take a different route We will explore West Lake from a unique perspective Let’s take a look at a classic hiking trail in the heart of Hangzhou city The Baoshi Mountain hike The scenery along the way is like a painting You can take in the most beautiful panoramic views of the West Lake This trail starts at Huanglong Cave Passes through Chuyang Terrace, Baopu Taoist Temple, Hama Peak, and Baoshu Pagoda And descends to Broken Bridge on Beishan Street The entire journey takes only a little over two hours The hiking difficulty is beginner level Very suitable for family trips Exit C of Huanglong Cave Station on Metro Line 3 Is right next to the Huanglong hiking trail entrance It’s shaded by green trees The air is fresh It’s a natural oxygen bar in the city Many locals exercise here Soon we will pass the first scenic spot, Huanglong Cave The ticket office is styled as a bank That’s interesting According to legend, a yellow dragon once resided here Today, it is a cultural sanctuary where Buddhism and Taoism coexist The atmosphere is serene and mysterious If you have enough time, you can go in and explore Follow the small path next to Huanglong Cave And you will officially enter Baoshi Mountain Baoshi Mountain is located north of West Lake Because the reddish-brown rocks are embedded with agate-like crystals When the sunlight shines on them They sparkle and shine It became one of the Ten Views of West Lake, “Baoshi Glowing in the Sunset” Although Baoshi Mountain is only a little over 70 meters high The mountaintop Is one of the best places to view the panoramic scenery of West Lake and Hangzhou city Please like, subscribe, share and turn on the notification bell White Sand Spring was built in the Ming Dynasty The three characters “White Sand Spring” engraved on it were written by Kang Youwei Continue forward The mountain path is winding and twisting With strange rocks standing tall There are signs all along the way Very clear Walking in the large bamboo forest is cool and refreshing It’s invigorating Climbing up the winding stone steps The mountain path is not long But every step is full of surprises Chuyang Terrace was originally the site where the Eastern Jin Dynasty Taoist Ge Hong refined elixirs It was listed as one of the “Ten Scenic Spots of Qiantang” in the Yuan Dynasty As the best place to watch the sunrise in Hangzhou Every year on the first day of the tenth lunar month You can see the new moon and the rising sun simultaneously The rare spectacle of “Sun and Moon Shining Together” on the horizon Here you can already catch a glimpse of a part of West Lake But for a completely unobstructed view We must continue forward In the middle of the mountain path We will encounter an ancient Taoist temple, Baopu Taoist Temple Baopu Taoist Temple is located halfway up Geling Mountain It is a sacred site of the Quanzhen School of Taoism It is named after the Taoist title “Baopuzi” of the Eastern Jin Dynasty Taoist Ge Hong According to legend, the alchemist Ge Hong once built a hermitage on Geling Mountain to refine elixirs Because Ge Hong created various dyes while refining elixirs People in the dye industry revere him as their founding master In the past, people in the silk weaving and dyeing industry in Hangzhou Would gather at Geling Mountain on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month To celebrate Ge Hong’s birthday And pay homage to their founding master Ge Hong This open space on the west side of the temple Is the former site of the old Baopu Taoist Temple Next to the site is an ancient well surrounded by a stone fence It was the place where Ge Hong refined elixirs and drew water The rockery in front of the temple Is rumored to be “Zhuge Liang’s Stone Maze” It is a remnant of the former royal garden of the Southern Song Dynasty, Jifang Garden During the hike The reflection of West Lake occasionally flashes through the trees Making one feel happy and relaxed Continuing upwards We arrive at Hama Peak This is one of the best places to overlook the entire West Lake Following the stone steps You can see a more open area of rocks With no obstructions around The view is extremely wide Looking south, you can overlook the panorama of West Lake And gaze at the distant mountains Looking east is the Baoshu Pagoda with the city buildings as its backdrop The sunrise and night views are even more beautiful It is definitely a paradise for photography enthusiasts However, because Hama Peak is steep and rugged There are no railings around You must pay attention to safety when enjoying the view and taking photos Especially on rainy days The rocks are slippery The paths up and down the mountain are quite dangerous The highlight of the ascent Is the famous West Lake landmark, Baoshu Pagoda Baoshu Pagoda is one of the iconic landmarks of West Lake Its history can be traced back to the Northern Song Dynasty and the Wuyue Kingdom period It is named after a legend According to the story, when the King of Wuyue, Qian Chu, was summoned by Emperor Taizu of Song The people were worried that he would not return safely So they built this pagoda to pray for his well-being The name “Baoyou Qianchu” (Protect Qian Chu) comes from this The pagoda is 45 meters tall The body of the pagoda is built with clean bricks It is tall and graceful And is known as the “daughter of West Lake” It faces Leifeng Pagoda from a distance Forming the classic “one lake, two pagodas” layout Standing at the foot of the pagoda and looking out The entire West Lake is in full view The remaining cast iron pagoda finial displayed next to the pagoda is a relic from the Ming Dynasty It was replaced during the maintenance of Baoshu Pagoda in 1997 And taken down Standing on Baoshi Mountain We can not only appreciate the natural scenery of West Lake But also feel its profound historical and cultural heritage Finally, we descend the mountain along the path next to Baoshu Pagoda On the way, we pass by the “Chunzhen Niandai” (Pure Age) bookstore Where you can order a pot of tea And enjoy the beautiful scenery of West Lake When you are close to the foot of the mountain, you will pass by The memorial archway of Guan Yue Temple and Zhaozhong Shrine Next to it is a row of cliff carvings about 50 meters long The carvings date back to the Yuan Dynasty Featuring a rare blend of Han Chinese and Tibetan Buddhist styles It is extremely rare Unfortunately, it was deliberately destroyed in the 1960s The end of the trail Connects to the famous West Lake scenic spot, Broken Bridge in the Winter If you have extra energy You can also connect this trail with the West Lake scenic area and continue your tour More Hangzhou videos will be updated soon Don’t forget to like and subscribe to my channel See you next time
