遠くをかすめる航空機の影と、足元に続く静かな路地。神奈川県大和市を歩くうちに、祈りの場と軍の存在が隣り合って息づいていることに気づく。自衛隊と米軍が共同使用する厚木基地の金網越しに見えるのは、現実の境界だ。一方で、引地川のほとりには法深寺や極楽寺といった信仰の時間が流れていて、誰かがそっと願いを託した石仏が苔むした境内に佇んでいる。住宅のように見える寺院、月に一度だけ開かれるというBAR、蔦に覆われた塀の向こうに、暮らしと祈りの断片が静かに重なる。飛来する機影が空をわたるたびに、基地と社の対比がより鮮やかに立ち上がってくる。手を合わせるという行為が、過去に向けてなのか、未来に向けてなのか、それともただ今この瞬間に向けてなのか。騒音と静寂の間に立ち尽くしながら、今日も誰かの祈りが聞こえる気がした。
