After you came to Thailand, What do you think is the biggest difference what’s the biggest difference? The biggest difference is here. is that I don’t have to do anything and I don’t have to worry about or what to eat tomorrow. The economic pressure is not that great. On weekends, my son is off, so I take him to have a walk. After entering high school, his studies became more intense. I can’t let him stop learning the piano, right? He still learns piano. And then I have to learn IELTS. Anyway, there are many things. There are many things to learn. It’s rare to have a day off, So I took him out for a walk. I’ve never been to the ancient city before. This one is called Mars Coffee. It seems like it’s very, very cool. Yes. Let’s have a cup of sci-fi coffee today. Let’s start pulling. Ha ha ha. Wow, It’s beautiful. It’s really. It’s very deep inside. Really. Wow. Wow. This is the moon. I’ve never been to such a cafe. Wow. It’s still smoking. Oh. First time. There’s more behind. There’s more behind. This place is also very sci-fi. Oh, a sci-fi style toilet is a Male or female? Bears, aliens can all come. It’s so big inside. It’s so big inside. Oh my god. Oh my god, it’s so big. There’s smoke everywhere. We don’t even know if there’s water on Mars. There’s even moss growing here already. It looks like there’s a botanical garden outside. Look, look, look. 我 There are so many weird cafes in Chiang Mai. Oh, here it is. No, no. A botanical garden. and there’s a tree behind it. This one. This cafe is interesting. And it’s located right next to the old city. There’s more behind. There’s even an elevator. This way is blocked. I’m going to get lost here. Getting lost on Mars It’s terrifying. Yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo. There are crystals. Thais really have a big imagination. They always come up with all kinds of things. Is this the Antelope Canyon? This is really a Antelope Canyon. How did they make it? Wow. Do you believe me when I say I’m in the American Antelope Canyon? Of course you would. It’s very big behind. Have you seen that Antelope Canyon? Go to the end. Go to the end. Turn left and you’ll be scared. Look, hehe. Isn’t it exactly the same as the American Antelope Canyon? It’s exactly the same. Hey, hey. There are people taking photos over there. Maybe that angle is particularly beautiful. It’s a completely sci-fi style. Thais are really imaginative. Here comes the coffee. They are really imaginative. Thai people have a big imagination, right? I’ve been saying that Thais have a really big imagination. When you come to Chiang Mai, you can see all kinds of cafes. There are all kinds of styles. rural style, sci-fi style, or even a broken building style. and all kinds of styles. Niu Niu also ordered a Martian steak. Cow from Mars, right? Hot beef. Right. Give me. Give me a taste. I want to try it too. What kind of sauce is this? I don’t know. It tastes good. There’s mustard next to it. Yes. Wow! This sauce is a bit salty. and it has a garlic flavor. The beef on Mars. Really. because the geology on Mars is very harsh, the grass doesn’t grow very well. So this kind of cattle eats this very rare grass. so its meat is particularly tender. OK. You must try Martian beef next time. We’re done. Three cups of coffee cost two hundred and seventy. Seven times twenty-three. twenty-four. Three times nine is twenty-seven. OK, thank you. Ninety baht per cup. A steak costs three hundred and sixty baht. and a croissant for eighty-five baht. There’s a cow drink for one hundred and twenty. And also and a pudding for eighty. It’s nine hundred and fifteen, which is equivalent to two hundred yuan. And then we were in that place. Basically, this cafe is full of Thais. I didn’t see any foreigners. So this kind of consumption for Thais is also a daily consumption for them. Not like many people there as many people imagine that Thais are poor. and this kind of cafe are not opened for tourists, but for the local Thais. So there are many cafes in Thailand, not all foreigners consume there. Most of the customers are local Thais. And the consumption is similar. The price of this one is a normal price. It’s about the same price. I sent Niu Niu to take IELTS class. and have nothing to do. Then I came to this coffee shop to sit. I came to this coffee shop with beautiful coffee. This coffee shop and this barista. This barista makes coffee very beautifully. My JB made me a dragon today. It’s beautiful. There are many people in the cafe. So in Thailand, we are talking about their income. I always think that their income is different from what we think. You know, I’ve been observing. You say their income is high, definitely not high. But if it’s low, It’s definitely not as low as everyone thinks. Generally speaking, I think four or five thousand yuan per month is always about there. I think it must be quite high in Bangkok. Now in Chiang Mai, I think maybe three or four thousand yuan might be possible. But their consumption concept is different from ours. The money they earn they will spend it on daily consumption. It’s different from us. our Chinese consumption concept is that For example, if I earn three thousand yuan a month, and I earn four thousand yuan. We always think that since our income is not high, so we will allocate it reasonably, Right, can we save some? It’s best if we can save some. we won’t engage in high consumption. Of course, coffee is not a high consumption. But in our understanding, except for daily meals, housing, water, and electricity, your daily expenses after paying for daily expenses, it’s all high consumption. If you only earn three thousand yuan a month, then this should be considered high consumption. But for Thais, it’s not. If a Thai earns three or four thousand yuan a month, they can go to cafes and the many restaurants we go to every day, they will consume there. They don’t seem to have the concept of saving money. This is the case. I’ve met many Thais who feel the same way. and they always feel that money is not enough. Because they are very good at spending money. unlike us who have the concept of saving money. They don’t save money. They will spend money where it should be spent. I was chatting with Sister Lan before. Sister Lan is in the tourism business. for tourism. She said Thais, real Thais, go on overseas trips. they travel overseas a lot. I believe that. Because wherever we travel, When I was in Iran, even at the border of Pakistan, a small mountain village called Honsha, a small mountain village, I have met Thais. they will travel. And Sister Lan said they like to travel to Japan. I said that Japan is actually quite expensive. For Thais, they like to join shopping groups. which is a very cheap group tour. As long as it’s cheap, they will go. For accommodation, or food, they don’t have high requirements. But they just want to play. Anyway, they just want to save money. Anyway, they are the same as us when they go there. Some people just buy things, while others don’t. Anyway, they just want to get a bargain. But as long as the shopping tour is cheap, they will all go. So there are Thais traveling everywhere in the world. We didn’t know before. But later, because we stayed in Thailand for a long time, They were chatting there. Can you understand what they are saying in Thai? So we knew they were Thais. So when we went out, we met many Thais. including us. On the US Route One from San Francisco to Los Angeles, to Los Angeles. I met several groups of Thais on the road. You can meet them everywhere. It’s true. Thai people are also quite playful. So their concept of consumption is quite different from ours anyway. So when you go to cafes, to Chinese restaurants, or other consumption places, you can basically see Thai people their daily consumption. Just now we were talking about the consumption concept of Thais. Suddenly Andy came. I can talk to Andy about it. Andy is an American. He used to be Chinese, and then he became a US citizen. Then he exported to China and then sold it in China. How many years has he lived in the US? From two thousand and six to two thousand and twenty-two. More than ten years. Uh, more than twenty years. Then he chose to live in Thailand. and married a Thai wife. and had two children. So he knows more about Thais than I do. I have an aunt who is Thai, and I don’t know many Thais. I have little contact with Thais. I happened to talk to Andy. Hello everyone. Nice to see you again. Ha ha ha. Hey, Why did you come to live in Thailand from America? what did you think? At that time, I thought maybe the pandemic. And then my business began to decline gradually. And then I thought there wasn’t much to do. and take care of them. especially my father. my father needed someone to take care of him and it was very troublesome for me to return to China. I thought find a place that is a compromise. that I like. And then I can and I can take care of my parents. and bring them here. My parents were in China. Were they in China at that time? During the pandemic, and they needed someone to take care of them. And then I happened to watch your video. and watched my video. Yes. I said, oh, maybe living in Thailand might be good. In this way, there may be less financial pressure. and I can take care of my parents. Right? So, So, I thought living in Thailand. So, after you come to Thailand, what do you think is the biggest difference what’s the biggest difference? The biggest difference is that I don’t have to do anything I don’t have to worry about what to eat tomorrow. what to do? The economic pressure is not that great. And then, To be honest, the humanistic environment, I think Thailand is better than the US. At least, I don’t have to worry about where I park my car. Oh, did I lock my car? Even if you lock it, will someone smash your car? This won’t happen in Chiang Mai. Is it common in the US? In America, everyone is afraid. If your car is smashed, or where you park it, Even in a better area, you will be worried. Everyone says America is a chaotic place, But in my life, I haven’t been robbed in the US for sixteen or seventeen years. Well, But my car was smashed once. Ha ha ha. Yes, the loss. I lost something. Will insurance cover it? Nothing. There was nothing in the car. Will insurance cover it? Did you smash the window? The window must have been smashed. It’s not covered. You still have to pay deductible. It’s my insurance. I remember it was five hundred dollars. It will only cover more than five hundred dollars. Within five hundred dollars, No. My glass was four hundred and fifty. So my insurance didn’t pay a penny. I lost four hundred. I lost four hundred and fifty dollars. So in the future, I don’t lock my car when I’m in America. and I don’t put anything in it. I mean, you open the door, you open the door and look inside, and there’s nothing inside. It doesn’t matter. to avoid damaging the glass or smashing my window. But in Thailand, it’s completely unnecessary. I don’t have to worry about this. I just said that I went to a cafe before, and then came to this cafe. I observed their consumption concept. Because I think it’s because of their income. For example, fifteen thousand baht twenty thousand baht, which may be only three or four thousand yuan maybe only three or four thousand yuan. However, their cafes are basically consumed by Thais themselves. So their consumption concept you can understand it from your wife. why they have such a consumption concept. I didn’t understand it before. I said, oh, with such little money, spending money like this every day, is it enough? Later, after staying here for a long time, I realized that Thais don’t need to worry too much about saving money. Because if you have a formal job, because the government provides medical insurance. which is to say, there is no insurance. You can go to the hospital without paying. Especially in Chiang Mai, has a relatively high level of medical care. Chiang Mai University Hospital, is similar to this kind of public hospital. Basically, it’s free. You go to see a doctor, and then and your children’s education is free. The only thing you need to spend money on is maybe it’s the school uniform. you need to buy it. and then, They also provide lunch. In America, it’s called lunch. Only low-income families get free lunches. Here, all students are provided with lunch. And there’s milk. I think this place is really welfare. Although there are wires everywhere, and the infrastructure is poor. We thought it was a very poor country, but in fact, in the hearts of the people, people still feel very safe. In this society, and it’s a Buddhist country, Even if you really have no food to eat, I can get a bowl of porridge in the temple. During the pandemic, we met many people Were you here during the pandemic? I was at the end of the epidemic. During the hardest time of the pandemic, Those who have enough food they would move to the street to feed the poor. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. That’s how they do it, yes, yes, yes. So in this regard, I think Thais are actually quite nice. In this country, I think there are chaos everywhere. But for the majority, the base number. for this country, especially Chiang Mai. I don’t know much about other places. I think the people in Chiang Mai, as ordinary people, are quite kind. With their income, For example, I think about the income in our country. In China, I think that a large part of it will be used to pay mortgages. But Thais live a life of eating and drinking. So how do they They don’t own the land. but the land is their own. They still have to buy. You buy it, not just for yourself. You can build one yourself. It costs money. Building a house doesn’t cost much. One hundred thousand to two hundred thousand yuan is enough. How do they get the money? By loan. One hundred thousand or two hundred thousand yuan. I don’t think they can save one hundred thousand baht. That’s equivalent to five hundred thousand or one million baht. They will definitely borrow money. Most Thais will have loans. Especially if you have a formal job, they will definitely have loans. Most of them. Now your wife is a civil servant. Yes, it’s easy for her to get a loan. Basically, my wife told me that In Thailand, all her colleagues have loans. Everyone has a loan. And her loan as a civil servant is good. a lot of money. Because she has a stable job, so the bank is willing to lend her money. Like them. Look at the maintenance workers behind. I don’t know how much they earn. They may be considered public institutions, right? like the power bureau. They are all similar to civil servants. May I ask? For a civil servant like your wife, how much their income is? It’s about five thousand yuan. Twenty-five thousand, a little more. Twenty-five thousand baht. So it’s more than five thousand yuan. Yes, more than five thousand yuan. That’s not a low income. It’s definitely enough for her life. For example, having a cup of coffee it’s definitely enough for you. Does your wife save money? She doesn’t save at all. She doesn’t save a penny. She spends it all, right? Does she take care of like water, electricity, and other bills? I pay for all of them. All by you? I don’t know where she spends the money. You don’t know. Just eating, drinking, and having fun. He will buy. For example, when we go out to eat, and buy clothes, and all kinds of other things. You will spend it. People who can’t save money People who can’t save money You will never know where his money goes. where the money is spent. He doesn’t even know where the money went. Do you shop online? If you don’t shop online, You’ll spend money on online shopping. You will buy it even if you don’t have money. So this kind of situation is very common. a very common situation. I think it’s very common. But actually, his sister is very good. He has a sister. His sister is good at making money and also save money. It’s just that people are different. Does your wife have Chinese blood? No, no. She is purely Thai. Yes, he is purely Thai. So Chinese people may consider saving money. I think Chinese people will consider saving money everywhere. Let’s say whether it’s Chinese in India from Southeast Asia. from India and Malaysia. these Chinese actually live quite well. In general, Chinese people are still the first to be hardworking, and the second is that they can save money. What about the US? Do Americans save money? Chinese Americans? Or just ordinary Americans. Ordinary Americans don’t save money either. They don’t save money. They don’t save money either. You say like If they are in America, just ordinary people, not Chinese, just white people. If you ask them to take out twenty or thirty thousand dollars, Too little. It’s too little, and they can’t take it out. Basically, they can’t take it out. Cash. I said you only have twenty or thirty thousand. not including assets. Not including assets. Cash, it’s too little. They spend it all after eating. Yes. So I think maybe only Chinese people save money. I think. maybe only Chinese people save money in the world. Yes. Because Chinese people when they are in a foreign country, in a foreign country, they do have a sense of crisis. What if one day something happens? I can’t do it. Yes, we also save money in China. I think everyone You said in the same way, we don’t convert the exchange rate. just in terms of local currency, If we take out ten or twenty thousand yuan, which family can’t afford it? Everyone will save some money. I think it’s because we haven’t talked about Just like Thailand. Thailand has been rich for a long time. right? Thirty years ago, Thailand was richer than China. It was very rich. Yes. So their society has been relatively is relatively stable. We’ve been rich we’ve only been rich for thirty or forty years. It’s not even thirty years. 对 It’s only been thirty or forty years. Especially for parents’ generation, they want to save money more. So we have always had we have a strong sense of crisis. We also have a sense of crisis in China. Not to mention overseas Chinese. The sense of crisis is even stronger. As we say, just ordinary people, not the rich and powerful, not the rich and powerful. Right? In the past, a young monk who had just become a monk. his eyebrows were shaved off. He wore shoes. Many of them wear shoes. Thai monks don’t even wear shoes. So in Thailand, if you really have no food to eat, you can become a monk. They will accept you if you want to. We’ve talked to Andy today. Niuniu is about to finish school. We’re going to pick him up. That’s all for today. See you next time.
