Hi everyone, it’s Ai. A little travel vlog from Oita, visiting Yufuin and Beppu while back home. At Oita Airport, Hello Kitty was there to welcome us. It turns out this “Hello from Oita to the World” theme is part of the Expo décor. When I visited in late April, it was the first display, but a new one started in August. I’ll be back in Oita later this month, so I’ll check out the new display then. You can explore Yufuin and Beppu without a car, but driving makes it easier and more fun. Driving from Oita Airport toward Yufuin, I never get tired of this highway view. Starting our walk at Lake Kinrin, Yufuin’s iconic scenic spot. A small lake with morning mist and shimmering reflections. Yufuin is especially beautiful in the fresh green season, best around April to May. I’d love to live in a house this beautiful — though it’s actually a restaurant. We made a quick stop at the gift shop of Yufuin’s famous Ryokan, Kamenoi Bessou. The shop was filled with original foods and local seasonings. They also sell crafts from Oita in Kyushu, like bamboo work, pottery, and woodcrafts. I was drawn to a nearby shop selling traditional Japanese goods. They had tiny sushi accessories made of chirimen, a traditional Japanese crepe fabric—so adorable! Isn’t this little kimono keychain so cute? I knew Yufuin had a Snoopy shop, and I finally spotted it for the first time! Found a mug with a unique shape—so cute! But I think the yellow one wins for both cuteness and usability. This shop also had many Yufuin-exclusive items and souvenirs. This kabosu-patterned pouch is so cute too… Yufuin had so many character-themed shops—it was kind of funny! After lots of walking, we took a break at a café I’d been curious about. We talked about what to do next in Beppu. Since we’re here, we want to enjoy both the hot springs and some sightseeing… Many restaurants in the countryside close by 8pm, so we had to hurry! Off to Beppu! I’d love to spend a night in Yufuin enjoying the onsen, but since it’s just a one-day trip, we’re moving on to Beppu. It takes about 40 minutes to drive from Yufuin to Beppu. A retro bakery that’s been around since the Taisho era. You write what you want here to place your order. They had classic breads like anpan and cream-filled buns—simple and nostalgic. The dogs are all squished together—it’s too cute! 😂 And here’s the real(?) dog this time! All the breads are small and round—so cute and they look delicious. The interior had a retro charm and warm atmosphere. I ended up buying five in total. 670 yen (about $4.30) for everything… so cheap! I’ll have them for breakfast tomorrow—can’t wait! As soon as we got out of the car, the smell of sulfur filled the air. Myoban Onsen is known for its strong sulfur scent and rising steam They were steaming eggs using the natural hot spring steam. Came to try Jigoku-mushi pudding—Beppu’s local specialty. Ta-da! We ordered a boiled egg and pudding, but now I kind of want an onsen egg too. I ended up getting one after all. Onsen egg Jigoku-mushi tamago—hell-steamed hot spring egg. Personally, the onsen egg was my favorite. Heading to a hot spring known for its milky-white open-air baths. ♨️ Soaking in an open-air bath during mild weather—it was perfect. For dinner, we headed to a sushi restaurant said to be the best in Beppu. Waited an hour to get in—super popular spot! KANPAI~ Liver sashimi with miso-based dressing(kimoae) I love white fish and silver-skinned sushi, so I’m ordering a lot! My must-orders: vinegared mackerel (shime-saba) Every piece had thick, generous cuts—so satisfying! Don’t boast.Don’t show off.That’s how true character is revealed.ーBeppu Kamesho Sushi The horse mackerel was so good, I ended up ordering it twice… Tonight’s hotel: AMANEK YULA-RE Beppu. The room was compact but spacious enough for a one-night stay. I was honestly surprised at how clean and modern business hotels are these days. The room also has a clean private bathroom, but… This hotel has a large public bath, a pool, and even a tent sauna. So impressive! The amenities were amazing—even indoor wear and tote bags were included. There was a yukata selection corner near the front desk, so I came to pick one. There are so many patterns—I can’t decide which one to choose! Picked the yellow one! It was a small experience, but I really enjoyed it. This quick Oita trip left so much undone—I’d love to come back and explore more things to do in Oita. I could only share a small part of Oita this time, but I keep a list of cafés, spots, and onsen I love. The Google Map link is in the description if you’d like to check it out! If you’re visiting Oita for hot springs, I recommend a 2-night, 3-day trip — one night in Beppu and one in Yufuin. A single night feels way too rushed! And if you have extra time, stay in the city too — explore the sea, waterfalls, and hidden onsens in nature. Maybe I’m just biased as a local though! haha

湯布院と別府をぎゅっと1日で観光した帰省ついでの大分旅行♨️

今回はGWに大分に帰省した際のvlogです！
地元に住んでいる時は全然気づきませんでしたが、大分って魅力的な場所が多いんです…🥺
お魚は美味しいし、温泉はどこにでもあるし、自然も豊か！笑
