Here’s a quick preview of what’s in Kushiro. Today, we are going to Kushiro, Hokkaido. This is a new type of sticker for baggage. Seems more convenient to use than the old one. Autonomous Mobility Service… It’s a free service for those who don’t want to walk. But we decided to walk for now… Our flight is early in the morning. Wow! We can see Mt. Fuji from Haneda airport. Kids area… Haneda Airport is a nice place to visit during early morning. It’s a nice feeling looking at Mt. Fuji while waiting for boarding. Let’s take a look around the restaurants and shops near the boarding area. JAL Plaza – Japan Airlines Airport Shop. There’s a vending machine for Baskin Robbins Ice cream. But I’ll just have cafe latte in the morning. Our flight to Kushiro is at 7:50am. Boarding time… JAL has free Wi-Fi in flight. We have landed at Kushiro Airport. Staring at pictures of red cranes while waiting for our luggages. Shuttle bus information going to Kushiro. It’s cute that animals welcomes you to Kushiro. Shuttle bus going to Kushiro station. You can buy ticket in advance on their website. … or buy ticket from airport. Let’s explore what’s inside the bus… Small table with cup holder… How to buy bus ticket from website. Chair looks comfortable… There’s no armrest between the chairs. Head lamp and airconditioner/ heater. Bus ticket QR code. “Tanchou Kushiro Kuukou” means “Red-crowned Crane Kushiro Airport” It takes about 40 minutes of bus ride from airport to Kushiro station. The bus driver scans the QR code before we get off the bus. “Anti-slip sand. Please use in case of emergency”
This one is closed, but we found one later in the video. Let’s take a look inside the train station. Waiting area… Coin lockers are here… There are some restaurants and cafes here at the station. … and convenience store. Stamp is here if you are collecting stamps… Kushiro area information. If you are a fan of Golden Kamuy anime, then you know this character. Golden Kamuy anime. Ticket Counter This is a special train that runs on coal and only available during winter. “Kushiro Station” About 0 or -1C temperature. We are walking to Tancho Ichiba Gourmet-kan. We are supposed to have lunch at Washou market. However, it is closed during Sundays so the tourist info center told us to have lunch at Tanchou Ichiba Gourmet-kan. Business hours: 8:00 to 18:00. Closed on Wednesdays. Place looks modern and slick. We will be having our seafood lunch here. We will be ordering this “Special Value Seafood Bowl”. “Special Value Seafood Bowl”. … with crab miso soup. Tuna, Salmon, White fish Egg, Salmon Eggs, Scallops…. Crab and Sweet Shrimp… Crab miso soup and soy sauce… You can buy Sapporo classic beer in Hokkaido only. If you want to have a chill time, you can have your coffee here. Spinach ice cream???? Freeze dried products? That’s the first time I heard about it. It tastes good though! Here’s what the spinach ice cream looks like… You can see a replica model of SL保存機C58 106 This park is just beside the Tanchou Ichiba Gourmet-kan. This is a nice place for your kids to play with snow in a playground. We took our time to play as well. It’s hard to read but the temperature is -1C. We finally found an open Anti-slip sand. This is found all over Kushiro. You can use it freely to make your walking safer. You can also find a lot of manholes with designs. You can see pictures of what you can do in Kushiro along the highway. We are planning to go to Nusamai Bridge. “Nusamai Travel Guide Station” Before you go to the bridge, don’t miss out “Cool Kushiro” monument. Don’t miss out this great photospot. This is one of Hokkaido’s three most famous bridges. You can see a dazzling view or sunset later in this video. This was voted as “Top Three Sunsets in the World” But the weather forecast today is cloudy. Hopefully we can see the sunset later. There are 4 of these female statues which represents 4 seasons: spring, summer, fall and winter. This is “winter” female statue. This represents autumn. You can take a stroll here looking at a different view of the bridge. Quite a peaceful river view. We are now going to a secret photospot of the SL Fuyu train. It take about 30 minute walk from Nusamai Bridge. This is a good spot to take photo of the train. Here comes the train! This is the only coal powered train that is still running in Japan. You can find many different angles for the train. We are now going back to Nusamai Bridge to see the sunset view. Dumpling (shuumai) vending machine?? Finally arrived after 30 minutes of walking. We will be going to the sunset view of the bridge. It seems a bit cloudy today. Unfortunately, it’s cloudy today. We can’t see the world famous sunset today. But we were able to get sunset pictures from our telephoto camera. Please enjoy our sunset pictures. This is an indoor garden in a steel and glass greenhouse. It has trees, walkways, benches and events inside. It’s actually warm and cozy inside here. There’s EGG Cafe here as well. EGG is connected to Kushiro Fisherman’s Wharf MOO. This is one of the famous mall in Kushiro. You can buy souvenirs like Shiroi Koibito, etc. and hand-crafted Ainu wood figures. There’s also seafood market here… This is a seafood restaurant near Fisherman’s Wharf MOO. Let’s take a look inside… Looks like an Izakaya place… You can order from this tablet. (English supported) Having beer while waiting for our order. King crab, Salmon belly and shrimp… Whale sashimi… We finished eating and it was really delicious! We had time to look around at the front lobby. Seems seafood here are freshly cooked. When we finished eating, there’s a long waiting line outside. Make sure to go here early as people tend to spend more time eating here. Nighttime is also dazzling at night at the bridge. This is a local Izakaya restaurant that has cheaper prices. It’s always fully booked so better reserve online. Staff only speaks in Japanese so you need to know how to speak… Of course, I ordered the classic Sapporo beer (sold only in Hokkaido). That looks yummy… This is their specialty: “Charcoal grilled Nakatsunai Chicken” Grilled oysters… Oden looks delicious as well. Black yakisoba… Salmon sushi… The food was great and cheaper than regular izakaya. Great place to have dinner if you want to experience local izakaya. This is a ramen restaurant at Kushiro. Looks like a typical local ramen shop. Somehow the ramen looks different… A lot of bean sprouts… Noodles are thicker than usual ramen… Ramen was delicious and tasty… There’s a special museum beneath this underground pass. You can see a lot of art drawings and pictures along the way. This is an Izakaya Yakiniku restaurant. Staff only speaks in Japanese. Menu is Japanese only. Usually served before your main order. We thought this was candy but it’s actually cheese and sausage with mashed potato. Time to grill our Karubi beef! … served with rice. We also ordered tebasaki (grilled chicken wings). … and Tako Zangi. (Fried octopus). Food was delicious and hearty… Good and cheaper place to eat yakiniku… We wanted to eat here so we visited this place during weekdays. There are a lot of shops here but today we wanted to eat seafood bowl. You may get lost around here so you can ask tourist information reception. They speak simple english here at Washo Welcome counter. There are open tables here for you to sit and eat. There’s one store here that sells only rice. After you paid for the rice, you can now visit other stores for fresh sashimi. …like this store. You can make your own seafood bow!. There are many options to choose from. They are priced per piece. If you go to their website, you can get 10% off coupon (over 500 yen). You can just point and tell them how many pieces… My seafood bowl is complete! Fatty tuna, Salmon… Tuna, Scallop… Salmon roe and King crab… After the yummy meal, we now head back to the bus stop. We are now heading back to Kushiro airport. This is the bus stop that goes directly to airport. Bus schedules are aligned with the airline departure schedule. There are many interesting stuff at the airport… Like this cow statue… Blakiston’s fish owl… Red crowned crane… Hokkaido brown bear… Hokkaido deers… Sounds like they are cool basketball team names… Waiting area… Car rental booths… Akan bus ticket center… You can also buy tickets from the vending machine… Special winter event for pokemon JAL self-service checkin… Let’s checkout the departure lobby… Your last chance to buy souvenirs from Kushiro. Let’s explore the 2nd floor. The airport has observation deck for you to see the view and airplanes. There are restaurants here as well. Don’t miss out the cranes at the ceiling. … and some picture gallery about Kushiro. The photographer here was very lucky… After security check, there are no more restaurants.
