Hello everyone! Today, we’re heading to Naoshima 直島 from Osaka 大阪! It’s a day trip! Here’s how to get there: First, head to Shin-Osaka 新大阪 from Osaka 大阪. Then take the Shinkansen 新幹線 to Okayama 岡山. From Okayama 岡山, hop on a bus to Uno Port 宇野港♪ Take a ferry from Uno 宇野港 to Miyanoura Port 宮浦港. Naoshima Island 直島 starts at Miyanoura Port 宮浦港♪ The trip itself takes about 2.5 hours, but with wait times, plan for around 5.5 hours one-way. We left Osaka in the morning and arrived around noon. Heading back on the 7 PM ferry! Picked up my Shinkansen tickets I bought online. JR Osaka (Shin-Osaka) 大阪市内 (新大阪) – to JR Okayama 岡山駅: Kodama こ だま 4,600 yen. Heading to Shin-Osaka 新大阪駅 to catch the Shinkansen 新幹線. On today’s trip with Eiko♪ Arrived at Shin-Osaka station 新大阪駅. So many tasty bento boxes at the station! Let’s hop on the Shinkansen 新幹線~ Remember to insert both tickets at once! We’re on Kodama 841, leaving at 7:40 AM! Riding the 500 series Shinkansen to Hakata^^ Off we go^^ There’s enough legroom for a small suitcase. There’s even a pocket in the front! And a cup holder! Here’s my bento 弁当. Got lured in by the “bestseller” sign, haha. Full of meat! Perfect for carnivore girls♡ Eiko got the “Train Bento「汽車弁当」” with a Tsutenkaku Tower 通天閣 cover♪ How’s the Train Bento, Eiko? Time for a nap before we get to Okayama (-_-)zzz Look! The cute rolling hills! So adorable♡ Maybe that’s why it’s called Okayama (hill of hills)? Almost there! Eiko looks sleepy… And we’ve arrived in Okayama! The bus stop is at the East Exit. After exiting the gate, take the escalator on the left. Go straight ahead. You’ll see the bus ticket counter. It’s Ryobi Bus 両備バス at window #3. Get a ticket to Uno Port 宇野港. 9:25am express bus to Shibukawa 渋川特急バス. Bus stop #2. It’s on the right. Bus stop #2. Get on the Ryobi Bus 両備バス here. Here comes the bus! Tap your IC card here. If you have a ticket, grab a boarding pass 整理券 too. This bus has USB charging ports! They’re Type-A. Seats recline and are super comfy! There’s a timetable up front too. Check the “down” schedule for Uno Port. Leaving Okayama Station at 9:25am. I’ll get off at the 12th stop, Uno Port. The bus is leaving! The ride takes about 53 minutes. Ryobi Bus 1918’s seats. This express bus is special, made with Kurashiki Denim. The details are so cute! Feeling lucky to ride this rare bus☆彡 We’re already at Uno Port! Pay with your boarding pass and fare(or Bus ticket). Now, let’s get on the ferry! The ferry terminal is right in front of the bus stop. Ticket machines for the ferry. The screen supports English language—so convenient!♡ Heading to the counter. I’m buying a round-trip ticket since it’s a day trip. 570 yen for a round trip (cash only). 300 yen for the trip to Naoshima. 270 yen for the return trip to Uno Port. The ferry timetable (also in Japanese). Departures are on the left column. Returns are on the right (they run pretty late, which is helpful). This ticket center… Also has a waiting room. Today, I’ll visit spots A, B, and C from this map. After leaving the ticket counter… The ferry boarding area is right next door. Let’s line up here. Wow, quite a crowd already! Some tourists brought their bikes. Alright, let’s board the ferry! This ferry is huge!(・o・) It’s about a 20-minute cruise♪ We’ll arrive once we spot Yayoi Kusama’s 草間 art!！ So many seats!(ﾟ∀ﾟ) There’s the famous red pumpkin by Yayoi Kusama!♥ We’ve arrived at Miyanoura Port 宮浦港! The ferry Asahi-go あさひ号 can carry cars too, cool! Found a photo spot! Time for a photoshoot with Eiko♡ After getting off the ferry, we’ll take the town bus to the art area. Gotta check if it’s free, typical Osaka behavior! LOL The bus is here! We’re taking it to Tsutsuji-so「つつじ荘」 to go to the Chichu Art Museum 地中美術館. It’s a flat fare of ¥100, kids ¥50 (cash only, pay when you get off). Let’s hop on the bus! It’s packed with tourists. Next stop: Tsutsuji-so 「つつじ荘」. A lot of people are biking around the island, too. You can bike to Tsutsuji-so, but from Benesse House onward, bikes aren’t allowed (bus or walking only). Let’s enjoy the scenery for a bit♪ We’ve arrived at Tsutsuji-so つつじ荘. Here is to switch to the shuttle bus Heading to the Chichu Art Museum 地中美術館. Was gonna have lunch at Tsutsuji-so, but it’s only open until 9 AM… (crying) There’s a photo spot! Let’s check it out! The sand is super soft☆彡 A slightly buried torii gate. It’s as tall as a person now because of the coastal currents. LOL Spotted Yayoi Kusama’s pumpkin! Let’s go check out the pumpkin〜 Looks like cyclists park here. The info center is on the left. Lots of people gathering around the pumpkin. Kusama’s pumpkin. Eiko’s getting her photo taken, too. Some people are taking selfies. LOL The ocean around Naoshima is so blue and crystal clear☆ Back at Tsutsuji-so つつじ荘. It’s 12:30 PM. We’re taking the 1 PM bus to the Chichu Art Museum 地中美術館. Time to explore the area until then. Wish we could’ve had lunch here… The ocean view is amazing! A cute high school girl in a sailor uniform…♡ Wait, nope… They’re Chinese. LOL There are chairs here too♪ Should’ve brought a bento with us… It’s almost time. Let’s head to the bus stop〜 The shuttle bus is free♪ It runs twice an hour. We’ll catch the 1 PM bus. Let’s hop on! Next stop: Chichu Art Museum 地中美術館. It’s about a 7-minute ride. The bus passes by the Hiroshi Sugimoto 杉本博司 Gallery and Benesse House. The sea view from Naoshima is stunning☆彡 Lots of people get on at Benesse House. We’ve arrived at Chichu Art Museum 地中美術館 〜 This museum was designed by Tadao Ando 安藤忠雄, and it’s super popular! Even booking two weeks in advance didn’t work, so we came hoping to buy tickets directly. LOL No luck… (*_*) Maybe… there’s a last-minute cancellation online? We scanned the QR code to check! still no tickets TT Giving up for now… taking a tea break here. Olive soda sounds interesting… Also tempted by the mandarin jelly… I went with the olive soda! It has a slight olive taste. LOL We’re heading to the Lee Ufan Museum 李禹煥美術館 and Valley Gallery ヴァレーギャラリー. After that, we’ll visit Benesse House. A car wrapped in Yayoi Kusama’s style—so cute! Absolutely adorable♡ Let’s get going〜 There’s a bus, but it’s not coming anytime soon. It’s only a 10-minute walk downhill, so we’ll walk. We ran into a kitten along the way♡ OMG, the kittens are so cute〜♡ As we keep walking down, We pass the bike parking at the north gate. Still walking…〜 It’s downhill for a while. We made it to the Lee Ufan Museum 李禹煥(リ・ウーファン)美術館. He’s a Korean artist based in Japan. The weather is amazing—it feels so good! Or so I thought… Eiko is complaining out loud because it’s so hot outside, and we’ve been walking a lot, haha. She’s clearly exhausted. To get to the entrance, We still have to walk down this long path. But even just being outside is enjoyable! Lol There’s this giant rock outside… What could it mean? It’s kind of cool though. This arch, with the clouds above, Looks pretty artsy(*^^*) Let’s head to the next stop〜 After going up the stairs, we’ll reach the Valley Gallery. You can enter it with the Benesse Museum ticket. Heading to Benesse House Museum now. I can hear the sound of the ocean♪ The sea around Naoshima is so beautiful☆彡 The sunlight reflecting off the water… This view is so calming★ Once we spot the bus stop, we’re almost there! This is Eiko’s favorite spot(・∀・)! Benesse House is on a hill, So climbing up here is a bit tough… We’ve arrived at Benesse House Museum! Yeah!!!

【直島の行き方】
JR『大阪駅』から新幹線で『岡山駅』駅までいく。
『岡山』駅から両備バスで『宇野港』で下車、徒歩１，２分で宮浦行きのフェリーに乗る、２０分ほどで直島に到着。
