KYOTO Gion & Gojyou Hello. The summer heat is still lingering, how are you all doing? This time, we’re touring some special shops in Kyoto’s Gion district. I hope you enjoy it to the end. ☺ First, we’ll visit a special teahouse nestled on the banks of the Kamo River, known only to those in the know. Inside the beautifully decorated shop, lined with tasteful folk art, we’ll enjoy carefully selected teas from Taiwan, China, and Japan. We’ll start with a Taiwanese white tea. The staff explained the process as they brewed the first brew. It was a special experience experiencing Taiwanese tea. The fruity sweetness of muscat and peach is gentle on the tired body after the second brew. From the second brew onward, we’ll make our own. Apparently, you can make up to 10 brews! The leisurely brewing is also fun . Now, how does the tea you brew yourself taste? The subtle variations in flavor are also wonderful. This is a Chinese aged raw tea. The tea is incredibly fragrant… With its mellow sweetness and refreshing palate, this shop allows you to rediscover the charm of tea and enjoy the summer steam without worrying about time. It’s a little hard to find , but that’s actually a good thing. It’s a relaxing, yet special place to visit… It was a luxurious, relaxing experience. It was delicious, thank you for the meal. Next… we walked down a quaint alleyway, typical of Kyoto… to a restaurant specializing in brand-name pork cutlets, about a five-minute walk from Gion-Shijo and Kiyomizu-Gojo. Apparently, due to its location, many foreign visitors frequent the restaurant. Wow! Here we go! A heart-warming pink! We ate our meal with seven condiments and sauces presented on an interestingly shaped plate. We chose cabbage or lettuce as topping vegetables. First, we added salt, which brought out the umami of the meat. Delicious! Other condiments, such as fresh peppercorns and yuzu pepper, offered a variety of flavors to enjoy. The lettuce garnish adds a refreshing touch, and the classic cabbage is also delicious . The ribeye steak, with its sweet fat, is also delicious! Finally, leaving the pork cutlet, I finished off with dashi ochazuke (rice with broth ), a luxurious finale. ♡ I thoroughly enjoyed it. ☺ It was delicious, thank you for the meal. Now, with our stomachs full, it’s time to enjoy some more shopping. We visited a select ceramics shop. You can see a wide variety of ceramics from all over Japan. They have a wide selection of tableware, not just specific pottery, so it’s wonderful to be able to check out the “tableware matching” you find in your favorite combination. Everything is so beautiful, it ‘s hard to choose… You can appreciate the beauty of each piece while feeling the climate and history of the pottery’s creation . This one is apparently hand-painted! I also really liked this one… After much deliberation, I finally purchased this dish. ♡ (I’ll introduce it at the end.) Thank you for visiting. Next, let’s visit the confectionery and mushiyashi shop , also beautifully appointed and set up . This souvenir shop is run by the traditional Japanese restaurant “Wakuden.” Putting “one” on “white” makes 100. By tasting one happy thing, you realize the 99 happinesses. The concept is to create delicious little boxes that brighten your day a little. Beautiful little boxes are lined up on a lovely counter with plenty of space. It’s refreshing to the eye , so let’s choose this one today! While waiting for the packaging, I sip tea at the counter. It was such a luxurious wait… The dignified atmosphere was comfortable. This is a shop I’d like to return to to buy a gift for someone special. Next, I visited the lovely glass shop next door. The vase here is so beautiful! The lotus flowers look great, too. The cool, shining glass made this a very sophisticated shop. I took a short detour to Kenninji Temple, Kyoto’s oldest Zen temple. It’s famous for its screens depicting the wind gods and thunder gods and the double dragon painting on the ceiling. It was crowded with foreign tourists, so I didn’t visit today, but the solemn atmosphere naturally made me stand up straight. I’d like to take my time to enjoy it next time… I made my way out to Hanamikoji. The scenery really evokes Kyoto’s Gion district! Time for a sweet break. This Japanese tea cafe, run by a Uji matcha wholesaler, offers a luxurious assortment of five roasted green tea sweets. Each one offers a distinctly bitter and sweet roasted green tea flavor. This is a five-tea tasting set, each with a matching bite-sized snack. Sencha goes perfectly with a punchy pickled shibazuke . The shop staff taught us how to brew tea properly and in what quantities. I’m looking forward to enjoying tea this summer! It was delicious, thank you for the meal. Finally, we stopped by a shop selling items by artists and antiques. Inside, a tin-framed shed reveals an open space that’s hard to imagine from the exterior. The interior is a very modern space where old and new coexist. The items are carefully selected. Simple and beautiful— Kyoto is truly filled with wonderful shops. This shop made me want to cherish the time I spend nurturing my eyes and soul. Finally, I’d like to introduce some of my purchases ♪ First, a cool little box I bought at “Shiro”. It’s a seasonal jelly made with organic lemons. Following on from the cool summer moments , I bought white tea leaves at “Ikehanbunmuro”. I’m looking forward to enjoying a tea party at home with the tea utensils I got from “Gallery Gyozan”! Thank you for watching until the end. Subscribing to the channel and giving it a high rating will encourage me. Thank you for watching! Hope to see you soon, have a good day ♡
