エディンバラ城の歴史 | エディンバラ城バーチャルツアー

Hi guys, welcome back to our vlog. We are still in Edinburgh. If you haven’t seen our other videos, please go back and watch them. Uh today we are going to Edinburgh Castle. Should be a great day. Should take a couple of hours. We’re going to do as much as we can. So stay tuned and check out Edinburgh Castle with us. Well, there’s the castle from here. Uh they’re building a stage right now. Totally forgot what it’s for, but they have a a festival with the bands, right? Like the army bands. than they do performances. That’s why it’s good to take. We were taking a walking tour yesterday and learned all sorts of things from our guide. Can’t impress upon you enough how great walking tours are, no matter what city you’re visiting. Oh, this is a walk uphill to the top of the castle. Give yourself to the top of the castle. Yeah. Well, just to the top of the hill to get to the castle. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time. It is It’s a pretty good walk. Wonder if there’s a different way to go. Ramsey Garden. Wow. So, they’re building the stands right now. And just look how big these stands are. There has to be seats for like 10,000 maybe. Yeah. It’s crazy. Here we go into Edinburgh Castle Memorial to Bruce. [Music] So, we just entered the castle information booth, a lot of signs about the different areas like the castle gate, guided tours. If you would want a guided tour, you had to pre-book, audio guides. Let’s go see. You get a site map or make your own tour. Let’s sit down and take a look at the map. Let’s see. We entered in from here and there is 26 points of interest on the map. Wow. So, this sort of starts over here, I guess. Battery cannons. the one o’clock gun which is still fired every day except for Sunday at one o’clock. I don’t hopefully maybe we might still be there here for that but I don’t know all sorts of different things and you sort of looks like you make your way around counterclockwise. What are the major sites? The 1:00 gun St. Margaret’s Chapel, which our tour guide told us if your name is Margaret, you can get married there for free. M’s Mag discover the firepower of the mighty siege cannon of the 1400s. The Honors of Scotland marble at Scotland’s glittering crown jewels. So, they still have those. The Great Hall, Prison of War. Prisoners of War. First first thing we find the gift shop. This is for Kulis Gay and is built up the long siege in of 1571. The main gateway into the castle. We stand on the site of the medieval constable tower. The top story was added in 1887. So here you can still see some of the original bedrock that the castle is built on top of. You get audio guys or additional 350 like five bucks$5 US. You see it is busy. All right. So, this is the famous one:00 gun. It’s a more modern gun. I thought they were firing off one of the old cannons, but that’s still cool. So, they shoot it every day but Sunday at 1:00. And they say you can hear it through the entire city. It’s like a back to work after lunch cannon. But we’re going to try to be here at 1:00 to show it to you how they do it. I don’t know. It’s pretty busy in this in in this castle. We can see I know we’ll hear it some history about the one:00 gun and firing it off. There is a ton of stairs in all these castles, so bring a walking stick if you have mobile issues. I don’t think there’s a ton of like elevators or lifts or anything of that nature. It’s a little exhibition room to the 1:00 gun in the tradition. Oh, maybe. Is that the one:00 gun? I don’t know. I don’t not sure which one they fire off. I guess we’ll find out later. [Music] cheap res. Well, let’s go check this out. Yeah. Oh, private residence. Yeah. Officer a mess. Yeah, it’s actually, I guess, where the guy who runs this place lives. There a ton of people in here. These tour groups are massive, too. So, we’re going to go check out the Royal Scottish Dragoon Guard Museum. Waterlue Royal Scottish Draon. Let’s check it out. I guess we go up. Let’s go. [Music] Go this way. I guess it’s the history of the Royal Scout Dragoon cards dating back to 1685 from 1678 depending on what sort of lineage. Cool artifacts in here, guns, things like that. Some pretty cool medals. Field Marshal, Sir William Robert Bart, the first and only soldier to rise through all ranks to become the field marshal of the British Army. So there you go. From infantrymen to field marshal. Bunch of different sign boards around this display of where the regiment was deployed to and a bunch of different conflict areas and wars all throughout the 18th and 19th century. See, we get to modern day 97. Of course. [Music] So, this display is all about this regiment. A lot of war history uh military history. It’s interesting to look at, but I think we uh celebrated a bit much. So, I said there wasn’t a lift. I was wrong. There was. There was a lift in there. So, maybe they have retrofitted some or all of these buildings with uh accessibility. Sure. Museum of Museum of the Royal Scots. The Royal Regiment and the Royal and the Regiment of Scotland. So, I think more military history in here. Always cool to check out the displays. Learn a little bit. [Music] So, this is all about Waterlue and defeating the French in the early 1800s. [Music] I think we forget that this part of Europe was basically in constant conflict from like the 1600s until 1944. War basically never stopped in Europe for 200 years. [Music] Some of the medals imperial service some different people in their medals. Really cool. Interesting. [Music] It’s a display of the Royal Silver collection. That’s one of the weirdest pieces. It’s a giraffe turned into a sniffer box. Well, so far through the first two rooms, three rooms we’ve gone through, it’s all been about military history, which is fun and all, but I want to see some gardens or something. I’m not sure if they have any here at Edinburgh Castle, but we’ll find out. We’ll keep looking around. At least we get to see the Scottish crown jewels. I’m excited for that because we know the history. Yeah, we do know the history. They were lost for what? 107 years. 107 years. They were lost on the grounds here in the castle. uh some people to I think the queen Mary of Scots thought that the British would take the castle or observe her in some way and so they stole the crown jewels and hit them in the ground and they all died before they told anybody and it took 107 years to find them. We’re making our way up the castle further up the hill. This is Fug’s Gate, the main entrance to the Citadel by the 17th century. The permanent the perimeter wall loop for both cannons and musketss was built in the built in King Charles II reign 1660. So this wall here was built in 1660. So seems like as the centuries went on, they just kept building the castle further and further down the hill. Please keep walking. So these slits are made for both cannons and musketss to be fired through. And I believe this is the chapel at the top. I think so. This is so beautifully made. Let’s go see it inside. Crown Square. You’re about to enter Crown Square. Designed to to proclaim the power and wealth of the Steuart monarchy. This sport has been busy since the 1400s. [Music] Uhhuh. And a lot of people in here. So, the building we’re entering now is the Scottish National War Memorial. No cameras, no videotaping. Please be quiet. This is a memorial. We’re going in the Great Hall now. Smells like the old hall. [Music] So, it’s the exact same roof system that we’ve seen in the other castle. What castle was that? [Music] Castle. I forgot. Anyways, like you can tell they same design, same architectural style for these great halls. But this one is Yeah, it’s made a little bit better. It’s bigger, that’s for sure. [Music] some interesting armor and swords on the wall. We do have a really cool collection of different swords and pikes and long spears and armor in here. Couple of sign boards explaining the different uses for the great halls depending on who controlled it at the time and why they controlled it at the time. Sometimes those military barracks, sometimes those are great dining hall. I think it had a couple other uses over the centuries. It’s better made than stone castle, but well, it’s just more decoration in it, that’s for sure. Even the roof painted. Yeah, the decoration. Yeah. And certainly it look like they just rebuilt the roof. I really hope that these claymores are just ceremonial swords. There’s no way those could be practical in a fight. They have to be five feet long, six feet long. It’s crazy on the display. Can’t read my little tickets presented to her matchy Queen Elizabeth. Can’t read it all. [Music] I love all the intricacies, all the details. If you look at all the old woodwork, old metal work, so much more interesting. Yeah, babe. Just busy in here. I think I prefer the castles with less people. So it says entrance honors of the kingdom. I guess this is where the Scottish crown jewels are. And there is quite the line to go see them. [Music] Royal Palace. All right, let’s see if we can get in here. I know it sounds crazy, but so far this is my least favorite castle of all the ones we’ve seen. Is it because I hate people? Baby, you know we wait in line. They have little facts. The crown of Scotland weighs 1.6 kg. And we wait in line more. See, no photos or video or anything else in here. That’s unfortunate. Well, no filming of the crown jewels, but they look pretty cool. Nothing over the top. Just a crown, a couple of swords, things like that. Now, we’re in the royal apartment. I’m assuming we can film in here. Of course, the obligatory gift shop. You have to look in the mirrors. So, you can see it’s on the ceiling, I guess, or on the wall. Rooms dedicated to Mary, Queen of Scots, and her royal lineage, who married who, and all that type of stuff. We’re going into the next room here. Bunch of different code of arms, things of that nature. It’s a cool fireplace. Of course, the combined coat of arms, Scotland, and England, the unicorn and the lion. So, I translated the writing under the symbol and it says James, the first king of Britain, France, and Ireland. So, I guess uh James here was quite the conqueror. [Music] See here. This one says David’s Tower. I’m not sure how going down gets you into a tower, but that’s what we got. [Music] We’re getting into the old castle here [Music] on north wall of David’s Tower. So, we’re sort of under the towers. [Music] Gun loop enc casement 1546. You could imagine being the guy whose job it was just to look out this hole all day with a cannon. So I guess the Scottish crown jewels have been hidden a couple of times here in David’s Tower. They were hidden during World War II just in case the Germans invaded. It’s probably not a great video. It’s so dark in here. It’s a fun little scene. Archmen arming the wall. Door to wall walk. That does not look like a door. Maybe it used to be [Music] That’s it. Half Moon Battery. This current battery was built in 1570 after the destruction of the earlier fortification. [Music] The well liquid assets. You can see some water down there. Wow. The well is 34 m deep and can hold 135,000 L of water. And it’s a sistern, so it’s not fed by rain. It’s just a sistern. It’s basically a giant hole in the ground that they built to collect rain water. [Music] St. Margaret’s Chapel. King David the 1 built the chapel about 11:30, probably as part of the Great Stone Tower. He cited it. He dedicated it to his saintly mother Margaret. The square stone dedicated windows and decorative arches reveal its medieval origins. So this behemoth of a cannons known as mountain’s mag. The world famous medieval gun shows of strength prestige of Scotland’s kings and middle ages. Only the wealthiest rulers could afford such a cutting edge military technology. Can imagine 700 years ago almost facing down that thing. I mean the cannonball. I’m sure it just probably fired it shot. Had to have been just something otherworldly watching this thing fire. St. Margaret’s Chapel. Step inside the oldest building in Edinburg Castle. 1130. And they say this one, the number of times Edenberg Castle has been destroyed. This one never has been. See if we can squeeze in here. Wash your hands. Stained glass windows are beautiful. I don’t know if they’re original, but just really beautiful. [Music] Such a chapel. I’m sure when they built this in the year 1130, it was in a little chapel. [Music] And the chapel stay still for so many years since 1130. And everybody who’s got the name of Margaret can get married here for free. Through all the history and stories you can read, I think some of the best are the stories told by the rock. All these hand chiseled marks, all the labor and the the real men who really built these castles. Not the kings, not the queens, the laborers, the men who spent all day, all day, all night toiling in the in the quaries. toiling in the quaries building these bricks and blocks and chiseling them out stacking them one by one making the lie for the cement that’s the real stories and there’s not a single story in this castle about any of them so this goes into the prison the dungeon area castle prisons of war so the vaults here in the castle were used as prisons for over 50 years from 1757 to 1815 And this is one of the doors and all the graffiti that the prisoners have carved on the inside. Yeah. But you just need your fingernail and if you keep carving actually see it. I’m not going to touch it. That’s uncovered on the edge. And this would be the third door. These were three separate doors to three separate prisons or dungeons. [Music] and some stories about each one of them. It’s a replica of the St. George. [Music] So, this would be like a timeline pre600, the medieval dungeons, 1680s, the killing time. Wow. Some different stuff there. 1700s, the Jacobite Revolution, of course, late, of course, up to the American War of Independence. American war prisoners were also held here. I guess the French Revolution. Man, they really did love their war up in this part of the world, didn’t they? Nothing but constant war all the way until 1945, essentially. So, this is what a dungeon or prison was supposed to look like in 1781. Simple hammocks for the prisoners to sleep on. I do love the dominoes on the table. [Music] Oo, new Domino set. Success. So there is an urgent need for more exchanges to take place. I see the regulations on display just here. [Music] Man, they have some sign boards to read, but it’s printed so small I can’t read it. Mine are up in this area. Water often collects in the dungeon. All right, so we have a couple of minutes until the 1:00 gun goes off. See everybody waiting for it. It’s right about here. I think I’m close as I want to be to a cannon about to fire off a a blank. Probably still blow my ears off, but that’s all right. Hopefully I don’t miss it. All right, we got four minutes. Well, they’ve raised the barrel of the cannon. Should be any moment now. Edmmer Castle stands on a craggy volcanic rock that has been a place of for refuge and a symbol of power for at least 3,000 years. The panels to your right tell nine chapters in its remarkable story starting with the arrival of the Romans and ending with the rediscovery of honors of Scotland in 1818. [Music] That’s it. [Music] [Music] So, we’re finishing up here at Edinburgh Castle. It was an enjoyable experience. I’m glad I went. But so far, out of all the castles we seen, I think this was my least favorite. Mostly because it was so busy. Just tourists everywhere, which I’m part of the problem. I get it. But the other castles were more enjoyable because there’s just less people and they felt less Disneyland. This felt very Disneyland. Feel very Disneyland. And if I have if I wouldn’t get the tickets to go see the castle, I would be so upset. I didn’t know I didn’t I wouldn’t lose much because if you come to Edinburgh, you will have to see the Edinburgh Castle. Yeah, that’s all it is. It’s not my favorite, but it’s all right. It’s it’s worth seeing. But I like Sterling Castle better. I liked uh Dunve Vegan way better up in the aisle of sky and even Ellen Dune was at least from the outside. Yeah, this one. And and I think a lot of the other castles weren’t restored to the same level this was. Yeah. And that made this one feel a little fake. Even the the crown the jewels are here. Jewels are here and you can take pictures. But uh you can see the oldest building in Edinburgh which is dated from 11:30 which was the Margaret Chapel. And your name is Margaret? you can marry here for free. So that was cool. It’s not a big room. It’s not impressive, but it’s interest to see how come the other the other buildings didn’t extend the earthquake and No, it wasn’t an earthquake. It’s been destroyed a couple of times. It’s been blown up. It’s been bombed. It’s been attacked. Look how many people are here. It is so busy here. It’s crazy. We got to Disneyland.
