ほんの少し便利になった神戸から日本人が行かない台湾の秘境・臺東へ癒やしの旅

Hi everyone, good morning Today I’m at the Kobe Airport International Terminal, which just opened this spring Since the airport in my home prefecture of Hyogo has finally gone international I figured I should go somewhere, so that’s why I’m here today There are no restaurants or cafes inside the terminal and there’s only one duty-free shop inside the restricted area, so it’s pretty pathetic but its location is incredibly convenient Japan’s main arteries: the Shinkansen, JR, Hanshin, Hankyu, and the Hanshin Expressway all run through the city of Kobe If Kansai Airport had been built here, both the railways and highways would connect directly to the terminal It surely would have become the most convenient airport in the world But, as you know, what politics and vested interests created was an airport far out on the sea It’s expensive and time-consuming to get to, just really inconvenient, isn’t it Anyway, putting that aside, at Kobe Airport this spring a few international flights have finally started service It’s become just a tiny bit more convenient, but considering what it should have been, it’s still a sorry state So this time, I’m using this tiny fragment of a better future to take a trip from this slightly more convenient airport The long-awaited in-flight meal, Taiwan beer Alright, here it is Time for a beer All finished Okay, it’s coming into view. I’m sure you’ve already guessed, but this trip’s destination is Taiwan It’s been a while since I’ve been to Taiwan, and seeing this deep green scenery below me it really feels like I’ve come back. I used to come to Taiwan often Probably about 50 times now, I’d say This was a comfortable flight on EVA Air, which now flies out of Kobe Airport We have safely landed at Taoyuan International Airport This time, I want to visit a place in popular Taiwan that nobody goes to a healing town of hot springs and beautiful nature I’ve never been there myself, so I’m really looking forward to it It’s so exciting to go somewhere you’ve never been before, isn’t it I wonder what kind of trip this will be So, after taking the MRT from the airport, I’ve arrived at the High Speed Rail’s Taoyuan Station I’ve come out of the MRT station What you’re seeing now is the MRT station, and when you come down this escalator directly across is the High Speed Rail station For a high-speed rail station, doesn’t this entrance seem a bit small This is the entrance The entrance is small, but once you go inside, it’s just a normal station And I’ll be taking train 833, bound for Zuoying The train has arrived Wait, I’ve seen this train somewhere before I’m sure many of you are thinking that right now Well, as you probably know this Shinkansen… Oops, I just called it the Shinkansen, but… that’s right It’s the same model as the Japanese Shinkansen It’s a train car that was made in Japan I think it’s called the 700T series I don’t know the details, but that’s the kind of train it is Arrived at Zuoying. As expected, it’s a comfortable ride. You feel a sense of security, too This is the end of the line for the High Speed Rail, so from here I’ll transfer to a local train and head towards Kaohsiung Station I’ve arrived in Kaohsiung. I’ll stay here for one night and head to my destination town tomorrow morning I’m only staying one night in Kaohsiung, so I booked the hotel closest to the station The station is right here The traffic lights in Taiwan are always… this is interesting The little green man starts running King’s Star Hotel King’s Star Hotel I have arrived at the hotel The elevator hall. So retro. It has a real Showa-era feel, doesn’t it And my room is here. It’s a corner room And when I open the door… So retro Old-school More than just Showa, it feels even older, from the Taisho era The window… it’s round. A round window. And across from it is Kaohsiung Station It feels more Taisho than Showa. I wonder if this hotel is from the Japanese colonial period And the toilet is Japanese style… no, it’s not It’s a Western-style toilet, at least Yes. It has a hair dryer And the shower, for some reason, comes out from here I wonder why it’s coming out from here A normal shower with a hose coming out of a place like this Showa feel. No, wait. It has a Taisho-era feel This closet too. Wow This is completely from the Taisho era The refrigerator… could it be the type that doesn’t get cold unless you put ice in it No, it’s electric. It seems to be electric, at least Okay. A kettle It doesn’t look like a kettle you heat with charcoal briquettes. It’s electric Amazing And that was the room tour Since there’s no lounge at Kobe Airport, I got a 2,500 yen coupon per person They told me to buy something at the duty-free shop Here’s my haul, exactly 5,000 yen worth Shall I show you A T-shirt. Sakura Masamune sake I packed light on T-shirts so I thought this was perfect and got one And some Kobe coffee And Kobe Gaufres wafers And also a Baumkuchen cake The plan is to eat these to lighten my luggage Alright, I’m heading out for dinner It’s a popular local eatery that people say is delicious It’s the kind of place where more people get takeout They don’t have drinks, so if you need one, you buy it at a convenience store and bring it in A snack to go with beer Century egg. I love century eggs And the soup has arrived too I bought a different kind of beer this time Okay, first, the pickles And, pork Pig’s ear. It’s called ‘mimiga’ And this is… stinky tofu? No, that’s not it It said dried tofu Dried tofu is delicious, isn’t it And, century egg This too It was like a stir-fry of green vegetables Stir-fried greens We’ve arrived. The night market The night market A fruit stand They have bubble tea and stuff What was it called again What is bubble tea in Chinese Zhenzhu Zhenzhu Naicha Making bitter melon into juice? That’s amazing There’s crab and stuff over there, crab That must be delicious But I’m so full Unfortunately I ordered just enough thinking I’d get hungry by the time I got here, but I was super full Look The oysters look delicious too Oysters Some mysterious black soft-serve ice cream Mysterious seafood Want to get some juice Yeah, I want some juice Because I’m thirsty Let’s get some kind of refreshing juice A refreshing juice Anything is fine Not bubble tea That lemon one looks refreshing Lemon… what is that Black tea I don’t know. Let’s buy it if we see another lemon one White fish roll It’s like caveman meat This is coconut Oh, that looks good There’s lemon There’s another one, so let’s buy it Time to buy That one… this one’s lemon That one’s coconut Isn’t that sugarcane Sugarcane? This is delicious Is 50 dollars okay Sugarcane and lemon Alright, let’s try it Let’s try the coconut They even gave me a straw and a holder Coconut Delicious Coconut tastes great when it’s cold You know how in tropical places they sell whole, lukewarm ones It doesn’t taste as good when it’s lukewarm Sorry, but can I have a sip of this one too What’s this one Lemon Half and half Delicious It’s refreshing, isn’t it Brown sugar Not brown sugar Sugarcane Sugarcane and lemon It’s delicious After leaving the night market, I came for a foot massage I’ve been on various forms of transport all day since this morning so I just had to do this famous Taiwanese activity, you know OK Feels so good My feet get swollen on planes They really do How do you say ‘swollen’ Yeah Not really Oh, really Not really Maybe the pain is yet to come, but I thought I’d be screaming in pain but surprisingly, it was fine today Sorry to disappoint all of you who were expecting some drama Next up is a historical symbol of Kaohsiung, the Old Kaohsiung Station This station building was completed in 1941, during the Japanese colonial period It’s a beautiful piece of architecture in the Imperial Crown Style, with a roof like a Japanese castle Amazingly, for the railway underground construction project the entire building was moved once and preserved using a method called ‘hikiya’ or building relocation Now, it serves as an exhibition hall conveying the past and future of Kaohsiung quietly passing down history next to the new station Good morning. It’s another beautiful day today Alright, I’m heading to this trip’s destination, a town that Japanese people don’t go to a place where hot springs and beautiful nature will heal you Today’s breakfast is like this, on the train. And outside, it’s still underground As the train emerges from the underground, the surroundings are a rural landscape like this Soon, we’ll reach the coastline This is nice. This view, blessed with good weather, feels amazing And the train enters a tunnel When we exit the tunnel, there’s a vast, endless sea: the Pacific Ocean The sea we were looking at before was actually the Taiwan Strait We passed through the mountains at the southern tip of Taiwan in a tunnel and came out on the east coast (In-train announcement) The next station is our destination, Taitung. Man, I’m excited We have arrived at Taitung Station The train has become really comfortable The last time I rode this line, it was a really rundown passenger car that felt like it was being pulled by a steam locomotive These photos on display are all from train enthusiasts. It’s all just train fan photos Doraemon? The balloon festival is indeed from July 5th It was from July 5th. We were a little too early There wasn’t much information written about it It says ‘Luggage Storage’ here, but it’s actually around the back I was able to store my bag by going in here and to the back Are these rabbits someone’s luggage? They look exhausted. It must be hot This morning, I left the hotel in Kaohsiung, took a train, and arrived in the city of Taitung a major destination for this trip As far as I know, it’s such a quiet and special place that you could say no Japanese people have ever been here I stored my large luggage at the station and immediately rented my ride An electric-assist bicycle. It’s great that you can rent it for almost the same price as a regular sport-type bike This city isn’t that big, so exploring it at your own pace while feeling the wind, a bicycle is the best way to do it Look at this, the rich greenery and the endless, wide sky This is a city where you can feel the majesty of the Pacific Ocean on your skin Just pedaling wherever the mood takes you makes your heart feel more and more free Have I conveyed a little of the charm of Taitung city But the real highlight of this trip actually starts from here In the next video, I’ll show you the beautiful nature and delicious food of this city and I’ll fully share the appeal of the hot spring inn where I’m staying tonight It’s a renowned hot spring for healing, known only to a few, nestled in beautiful mountains The quality of the spring water is a given, but its tranquility and local atmosphere are sure to show you a depth of Taiwan you’ve never seen before Please look forward to the next video See you then Thank you for watching this travel video to the very end By the way, on my other DIY channel I actually got a used bus two years ago and have been converting it from scratch myself into a camper van Starting with painting the entire bus installing a bed, kitchen, heated floors, and air conditioning and even taking on my first aluminum welding challenge to build the ultimate electrical system It’s about an amateur figuring things out through trial and error and turning it into a camper van ready for travel I’m documenting the entire record on video If you’re even a little bit curious about what’s happening with this bus please check out the link in the description box and take a look at my DIY channel I’m sure it will make traveling seem even more fun Well then, I’ll see you in the next video Please subscribe to the channel as well
