Friday, August 22, 2025, Bentencho Station , 3-11-6 Namiyoke, Minato-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan . On the way to EXPO 2025, Osaka-Kansai Expo . From Bentencho Station, head to Yumeshima Station. Yumeshima Station , 1-chome Yumesunaka, Konohana-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture . The first gate opens at 9:40 AM , but it’s already packed. We plan to enter at 10:00 AM through the West Gate. We take a bus to the West Gate area. We line up to enter the West Gate. It ‘s crowded. About 80% of the people are holding parasols. After waiting in line for about 30 minutes and going through baggage inspection, we were able to enter. The “Large Roof Ring” is visible ahead. We take a bus to the east. First, we went to the Portugal Pavilion. There was almost no wait time. The Portugal Pavilion’s theme is “Ocean: Dialogue of Blue.” Through this interactive multimedia experience, visitors learn about the ocean’s vital role as a resource for life. Around 11:00 AM, we dined at the restaurant attached to the Portugal Pavilion. (We waited about 10 minutes for a terrace seat.) Bacalhau Croquettes ¥1,134, Ginger Ale ¥650, Octopus Rice ¥2,950, Portuguese-Style Beef Steak with Punched Potatoes ¥2,950, Egg Tart ¥462. These crusts feature a crispy pie crust and rich custard, and are so popular they often sell out before noon. Inside the pavilion, we waited about 15 minutes for the Turkmenistan Pavilion . The Turkmenistan Pavilion, characterized by its rounded triangular ceiling, has the theme “Creating a Better Tomorrow.” This pavilion showcases Turkmenistan’s history, economic development, and culture, emphasizing sustainability. It’s a country that’s difficult to travel to from Japan, and perhaps that’s why it’s so popular. Here, visitors can wear Turkmenistan costumes and take commemorative photos. Apparently, there’s a Pokémon GO event taking place inside the Pokémon Lapras venue. We waited about 20 minutes for the Czech Pavilion , a popular photo spot . The Czech Pavilion’s theme is “Talent and Creativity for Life.” Experience the charm and culture of the creative Czech Republic while strolling through a beautiful corridor that combines cutting-edge technology with traditional Bohemian crystal. Located on the Czech Pavilion’s rooftop , “Life Park,” this facility emits mist every 15 minutes. It’s said to be effective in preventing heatstroke. Visibility has dropped to zero, and children have reported getting lost. Instead of visiting the Austrian Pavilion, we went to the Bahrain Pavilion for a takeout white grape soft serve ice cream (¥1,400) . We waited about 20 minutes. At the Bahrain Pavilion, you can experience the maritime culture that has supported the country’s development. As its name, “Al Bahrain” (Two Seas), suggests, Bahrain is blessed with fertile seas and freshwater springs. Apparently, the boats are made from palm trees. In the exhibition area, you can learn about Bahrain’s rich maritime history. The “Lumee Soda” at the Bahrain Pavilion’s cafe menu tasted like the sweet and sour tea soda popular in Bahrain . I also tried pomegranate juice. I went up to the top of the large roof ring. It was windy, so be careful not to drop anything or your hat. After exploring around, I arrived at the Malaysia Pavilion. This pavilion is made of bamboo and features the iconic Malaysian textile, “songket.” I waited in line for about 20 minutes before entering. The theme of the Malaysia Pavilion is “Weaving a Harmonious Future.” This is a food sample. A great photo spot: Malaysia seems to be famous for its curry dishes. Commons Pavilion: The Commons Pavilion is a joint exhibition facility at the Osaka-Kansai Expo, where multiple countries and regions exhibit pavilions in the same building. After a bit of exploring, I arrived at the Saudi Arabia Pavilion. The theme of the Saudi Arabia Pavilion is “Together for a Better Future.” It features a sustainable design inspired by traditional architecture. This is the food menu at the Australian cafe KOKO. Crocodile fillet roll ¥1,650, fish & chips ¥1,800, Australian shrimp salad , Kapi Lemonade and Kapi Cola ¥700 each , Miyaku Miyaku clips and gaufrettes. I bought them as souvenirs because they might not be available later in the day. I waited in line for about two hours at the US Pavilion . It was a good opportunity to sit and rest. The theme of the US Pavilion is “Imagine What We Can Create Together.” The US Pavilion showcases American innovation and leadership in technology, space exploration, and more through five immersive exhibition areas. It was night outside. The area around the escalators was quite crowded, likely due to people wanting to see the night fireworks from above. Fireworks were starting to go off on the bus ride to the next pavilion. I headed to the “City of the Future” near the West Gate . This was the only pavilion that accepted same-day reservations. It would be nice to enjoy a meal here while taking in the night view. Even though I had a reservation, I waited about 10 minutes. This pavilion, themed “Cities of the Future,” allows visitors to experience the new urban landscape brought about by Society 5.0 and the happiness it will bring. Through videos and virtual experiences, visitors can learn about how social and everyday issues will be resolved. I had a reservation for the interactive theater, so I headed there. A lively young woman guided me. Using my smartphone, I chose the future I wanted. After looking around, I headed outside. I went to a food court-like place offering food from five countries. The Grand Food Court opened around 8:30 PM. This is where I had dinner. Since Bangladesh is a rare dish, I ordered Bangladeshi chicken biryani. This is chicken biryani. Biryani is a dish made by cooking spices and rice (mainly basmati rice) with meat and vegetables. This is a kebab. It’s hidden by the salad, but it contains meat. I ordered lassi (I can’t remember the price…I think it was about 5,000 yen in total) . Thank you for the meal. We stopped by souvenir shops and exited through the West Gate. Once we left through the West Gate, it seemed we would have to take a bus or taxi home. I wanted to go back by train, but it seemed like we couldn’t go back to the East Gate, so we decided to take a taxi. Taxi Pavilion! (The second-longest line this time.) This time, we brought you a report on the Kansai Expo 2025 in midsummer. Naturally, it was hot. But if you live in Osaka, I think you’ll want to come back. Yumeshima is truly a dreamlike place. We’ll continue to bring you updates on our trip, so please subscribe and like our channel. See you next time!
