神田祭、山王祭と並び「江戸三大祭り」の一つに数えられる、富岡八幡宮の例祭です。
その最大の特徴は、別名「水掛け祭り」とも称される通り、沿道の観客が神輿の担ぎ手に対し、威勢よく清めの水を浴びせかける点です。この水は、神輿を清め、熱気を冷ますとともに、担ぎ手と観客が一体となって祭りを作り上げる象徴でもあります。3年に一度開催される本祭りでは、各町会から繰り出される50基以上もの大神輿が、勇壮な連合渡御を行います。江戸の粋と心意気を伝える担ぎ手の雄々しい姿、そして熱気と水しぶきが織りなす圧倒的な光景は、見る者の心を揺さぶります。夏の東京を代表する風物詩として、長く受け継がれてきたこの祭りは、きっとあなたの記憶にある「懐かしい祭り」の感動を呼び覚ましてくれることでしょう。

This annual festival of Tomioka Hachiman Shrine is considered one of the “Three Great Festivals of Edo,” along with the Kanda Festival and the Sanno Festival.
Also known as the “Water-Sprinkling Festival,” its most distinctive feature is the vigorously pouring of purifying water by spectators along the roadside on the mikoshi carriers. This water purifies the mikoshi, cools the heat, and symbolizes the unity of the carriers and spectators in creating the festival. Held every three years, the main festival features a spectacular joint procession of over 50 large mikoshi from each neighborhood. The gallant figures of the carriers, who convey the elegance and spirit of Edo, and the overwhelming spectacle of heat and spray will move the hearts of all who see it. This festival, which has long been passed down as a Tokyo summer tradition, is sure to evoke the emotions of your memories of nostalgic festivals.
