Hello, this is Bubu Tabi! I’m in Umeda, Osaka! ♪ Since it’s the rainy season, which makes travel planning difficult, I’m embarking on a gourmet trip to my hometown, Osaka! 🐷 I’ll be visiting some of my recommended restaurants and long-established establishments I’ve always wanted to try, so I hope this helps! ♪ Now, let’s head straight to our first stop! ♪ So, I walked to Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street, said to be the longest in Japan! This shop is located there, and it’s my first stop! Founded in 1973, it’s a popular spot that’s more popular with locals than tourists. It’s also my favorite okonomiyaki restaurant. I arrived five minutes before opening. There were two other groups ahead of me, so it looked like I’d be able to get in right away. The interior has a nostalgic atmosphere. I also remember the nostalgic sauce and mayonnaise served in cans. In addition to okonomiyaki, the menu also includes limited-edition grilled yam. But their signature dish is this! The negiyaki (green onion stew) with their special soy sauce and lemon is absolutely delicious. It’s also great that they cook it right in front of you. All seating is in semi-private rooms, so it’s comfortable even for solo diners. This is a restaurant you’ll want to stop by after work and eat before heading home. It’s delicious, topped with generous portions of thick green onions. Once the waiter gives the OK, it’s ready. Finish with mayonnaise and special soy sauce. Add bonito flakes and green laver, and squeeze in some lemon just before serving. It’s been a while since I had it, but it’s still as delicious as ever. The soy sauce is packed with umami and pairs perfectly with the green onions and lemon. Each portion isn’t too big, so you can eat it So, I ordered one more dish. Yakisoba is also recommended! the original, nostalgic Japanese yakisoba. The key is to mix the pickled ginger evenly before eating! It’s delicious! 😂 It’s the perfect supporting role for yakisoba! The pickled ginger really does a great job! The sauce is just the right amount. It has a nostalgic flavor with a strong dashi broth. The vegetables and pork are fragrant. The crispy grilled pork is especially delicious. There are plenty of signs on the wall. It’s delicious, so definitely give it a try! Thank you for the meal! There’s another restaurant nearby that I recommend. This shop is also located in Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street. We visited a delicatessen established in 1955. It is a popular restaurant where there is always a line at lunchtime. most popular item is the croquette, priced at 100 yen each. It’s also famous as a favorite of famous Japanese comedians. 😊 I bought one right away! It was piping hot, fresh from the frying pan, and the crispy batter was palpable even through the paper ♪ So delicious… The sweet potato was surprisingly sweet! It’s sweeter than sweet potato or chestnut. You can also taste the richness of the beef fat. It’s the kind of thing you can eat as many as you want, just like a snack. If I wasn’t on a foodie trip, I would definitely have had seconds. A pigeon came into the frame, desperate for a croquette. 🤣 Delicious! Thank you for the meal. ♪ Now, it’s time for dessert. 😊 I took the subway from Minamimorimachi Station, the nearest station, to Sakaisuji-Honmachi Station, two stops away. The shop is a five-minute walk from the station. I decided to visit this shop I’d been interested in for a while. This long-established ice cream monaka shop has been in business since the Taisho era. ♪ I’m curious about its “unique flavor.” I bought one right away. It was a white monaka wafer with vanilla ice cream inside. The ice cream must have been so cold, because it felt like dry ice on my hands. Let’s eat. What is this!!! It’s so refreshing! The vanilla flavor is incredibly refreshing and delicious!! The monaka wafer was also crisp and absolutely delicious♪ Even though it’s not mint flavored, it’s refreshing. It’s strange, but addictive😋 It was so delicious that I wanted another one, so I went inside the store (photography is only allowed inside the store). I ordered a coffee and monaka set (480 yen). It was a sudden heat wave in May, with the temperature reaching 35°C, so the ice-cold iced coffee in a copper glass was absolutely delicious♪ The interior of the restaurant was also retro and charming. nice time. Thank you for the meal♪ Now that I’ve had a long break, it’s time to resume my food tour! Thanks to the air conditioner and ice cream, my body is in refrigerated mode. I think I can walk in the hot sun for a while. After a 20-minute walk, I arrived near Shinsaibashi. I arrived at a popular restaurant serving fresh, affordable Edomae sushi. Nagahoribashi Station and Shinsaibashi Station are nearby. This sushi restaurant has been in business for nearly 30 years and is famous as the birthplace of “unagi butter.” Their signature “Original Unagi Butter” is a must-try dish! Nigiri sushi starts at 100 yen for two pieces. They offer a wide variety of toppings. There is also a wide variety of à la carte dishes available for order from lunchtime onwards. The Benitoro Koyukichan (Red Fatty Tuna Koyuki) is also delicious! Eating sushi at the counter during the day on a weekday feels like a luxury. The Benitoro is fatty and delicious! 😋 I started with my favorite sprouts! I discovered their deliciousness in my 30s. It’s a simple dish, but one of my favorites. It’s perishable and not available at conveyor belt sushi restaurants, so when I find it, I can’t help but order it. It’s consistently delicious. This octopus is also tender and delicious. This is the Benitoro Koyukichan! 🤣 It’s their signature dish, second only to the Unagi Butter. It comes with salt, so I ate it as is. Super delicious… It’s so good I’m always impressed… The fat is just right, melting in my mouth. I also ordered the specialty “clam croquette.” It was creamy and packed with the umami of seafood. The Southern sauce added a nice accent. I’ll have the second batch too. The long-awaited original eel butter! I forgot to take a photo and melted quite a bit of the butter. It doesn’t look very good, but this makes it even more buttery and delicious. Delicious… The eel was fragrant and fluffy. The sweet and spicy sauce and butter were a perfect match. It’s not the typical Osaka sushi where the toppings are large and eye-catching, but the rice was delicious, the toppings were authentic, and I recommend this restaurant. However, I have some sad news to report. Yesterday, I learned that Ohatsu Tenjin, a store in Umeda that I always frequented, will be closing on July 6. However, I checked with the store, and they said they are currently looking for a new location. I’m a little relieved to hear that. I’m looking forward to the new location! Thank you for the meal! (With a cup of oolong tea, it was 3,100 yen.) Now that I’m full, I head back to the hotel. I’m pretty full, so I want to take a break. So, I’m back in Umeda! Today’s hotel is a capsule sauna! 🤣 It’s conveniently located just a 10-minute walk from Umeda Station, and costs 4,500 yen per night. There’s also a men’s floor in the same building. While the rooms are only available from 3 PM, check-in is available from noon. Hotel prices in Osaka have been rising due to the Expo, so this was my first time staying at a capsule sauna. To cut to the chase, I loved it so much I plan to come back! 🤣 The baths have a Roman-inspired feel, reminiscent of Thermae Romae. There are about four types of baths, and several types of saunas, from mist-generating ones to loyly saunas, which generate steam by pouring water on sauna stones. My favorite was the rock bath. It felt so good to be able to relax and sweat! They also have a nap room and manga, making it a haven for bath lovers. Despite the large number of guests, the bath wasn’t too crowded, so I was able to relax. I took a nap (fell asleep). When I woke up, it was 7:30 PM. The sky was still bright, and it was already summer! Since I have another day to go, I decided to have a light dinner. I came to Shin-Umeda Shotengai, where there are nearly 100 restaurants. This restaurant is one of them. This is it♪ A long-established oden restaurant that has been in business for over 170 years. The broth has been made from bonito and whale since the company was founded. There are partitions, so it’s easy to go in even if you’re alone. A wide variety of whale dishes are available. As is typical of Kansai, there is whale in the oden as well. However, I’m not a big fan of whale, so I won’t order it today🤣 I just came here for the oden♪ Let’s start with the classics. When you think of Takoume, you think of this melt-in-your-mouth daikon radish. The way the broth soaks into it is just amazing… the radish is soaked in, it’s delicious! Today, since my hotel is nearby, I’m drinking, which is unusual for me. (I’ll probably be able to go home even if I’m drunk.) The specialty dish is “sweet stewed octopus.” The price may give you pause, but this is a dish you should try at least once. The octopus is surprisingly plump and delicious. It goes perfectly with alcohol♪ Next, I’ll try something a little different for the first time. It’s mozzarella cheese, which is unusual for a long-established restaurant. It’s an avalanche of cheese. Delicious!! It’s impossible for this combination not to be delicious, but it far exceeded my expectations. The cheese melts nicely and goes well with the broth. So, to finish off, I went for a healthy dish: wakame seaweed. This is my first time trying wakame seaweed in oden. !!! What is this🤣 So delicious!! The broth just oozes out of my mouth as I eat it!! Wakame…it might be the best. Next time, I’d like to try udon. Thank you for the meal ! I’ll eat again tomorrow morning, so I’ll stop at one place for today. I’ll take another bath and go to bed. Good night. Going to bed. The next day. Good morning! Today, I’m going to eat around Namba! Before that, I made a little detour. I arrived at the east exit of Hanshin Umeda Station. There is a shop where you can drink delicious mixed juice at the bottom of this escalator. escalator to the left, but it’s tucked away, so I had a hard time finding it the first time I came. 😅 Finally, I made it! It’s a very popular mixed juice shop in Osaka. A glass costs 230 yen! The service is incredibly fast—fast, cheap, delicious, and highly recommended. The generous servings are also great! I’ve tried a lot of mixed juices, but this one is the best. It’s full of fruit and absolutely delicious! 😋 It’s even better in the morning! I’ll be able to start my second day with energy! Thank you for the meal. Moving to Namba. Next, I headed to Sennichimae Shopping Arcade for breakfast. This is where I came. This long-established coffee shop opened in 1946, just after the war. Their specialty is their special pancakes. While they’re a bit pricey, the breakfast menu (weekdays only) is a bit more affordable. The portions are amazing! 😲 If you weren’t here for the pancakes, you’d probably be hesitant to order. Here we are! I’ve never forgotten how amazing I was the first time I tried them, so I decided to come back for the first time in 10 years. The unusual clear syrup is cut into bite-sized pieces beforehand. The small size makes them easy to eat, which is also great. Wow! Freshly baked and fluffy! So delicious! The buttery flavor fills your mouth, creating an absolutely delightful taste. The simple sweetness of the syrup enhances the buttery flavor, making it even more delicious. It’s surprisingly delicious, considering its simple appearance. I said the small size is good, but it’s not enough! 🤣 I could have eaten two or three more. One last bite… thanks for the meal! They also had takeout in retro packaging. Without wasting any time, we headed to the next store. Next, I visited a shop just a two-minute walk from Junkissa American. While it’s in the same Sennichimae shopping district, it’s on a different street, giving it a more intimate feel. I visited this Osaka udon restaurant in the shopping district. It’s a beloved restaurant for over 50 years by many comedians, and it continues the flavors of a famous restaurant that sadly closed down. This was my first visit! Apparently, even popular Osaka comedians highly recommend this restaurant. There was a line, so I waited about 10 minutes before finally entering. Of course, I ordered the most popular dish, the Niku Udon! There was also meat soup♪ It’s here! The broth smells amazing! The generous amount of thick green onions really whets my appetite. First, the broth is delicious ! !!! The broth is so good! I couldn’t stop sipping… It was the most impressive thing about this trip. The broth is so good! 🥲 Matsu-chan’s words , “If this soup came out of the faucet at home, I’d drink as much as I wanted.” are so brilliant! I’m sure you’ll agree! 🥲 The udon has thick noodles, typical of Osaka. The noodles were chewy and had just the right amount of firmness, like handmade noodles. The generous amount of meat was very satisfying. It might have been the first time I’d sipped udon broth since my trip to Kagawa… it was so delicious! Thank you for the meal! I’m feeling a bit full! 😅 I took a quick break in the underground mall. Afterwards, I shopped around, finding some cheap strawberries and other things! 🤣 The city was all about the Expo! moving. After walking, I arrived in Shinsekai! I wentto my favorite kushikatsu restaurant, the first one to open. This hidden gem is more popular with locals than tourists. The prices are reasonable, and the unique flavors are delicious. 😊 It’s a comfortable place, even for solo diners, as the seats aren’t too close. Orders other than drinks are made by writing them down on a slip of paper and handing it to the staff. The cabbage and oolong tea appetizer (250 yen) was a shame, as the sauce didn’t have a “no double dipping” rule. I prefer deep dipping, but since COVID-19, fewer restaurants are doing that. The cabbage was crisp and delicious! ♪ The first order arrived. First, the shrimp. They were plump and looked like the shrimp you’d get at a Western restaurant. 250 yen for this is a bargain! ♪ Plump and delicious! The batter was thin and crunchy. The oil drained off nicely and it was really tasty. And then there was the classic kushikatsu. The meat was tender. 120 yen for all this is too cheap! The vegetables were large and filling. Plenty of asparagus. Sweet and delicious. Jumbo onions shaped like ham cutlets. So tender! ♪ Deep-fried onions are sweeter and more delicious. The lotus root was heavy! 🤣 It was too thick and still a little hard. 🤣 The pork tenderloin was also large. The salt and pepper were effective and it went perfectly with beer. ♪ I ordered more! ♪ It was my first time ordering namafu. 😊 Wow, it’s delicious! It’s chewy and has a sweet potato flavor! I wonder why I hadn’t ordered it before…😂 It’s definitely on my list from next time🤣 The nostalgic Showa-era bento toppings are delicious♪ Now, shall we have dessert for the final dish?♪ Here it is♪ Two dishes that I tried out of curiosity and was amazed by how delicious they were. I was blown away . I recommend eating them while they’re still hot. So good🥲 The freshly fried Baumkuchen was so fluffy and delicious. I also ate the kintsuba while it was still hot. This was a winner…! The piping hot bean paste was insanely delicious. The last two dishes were truly exquisite, so I recommend you try them! The bill was 2,000 yen! Great value for money♪ Thank you for the meal! Now, the last restaurant is also in Shinsekai. It’s close by, so I’ll give it a try. However, when I arrived, I saw a sign that said “Private Today”… I wanted to eat beef cutlet curry stew at a long-established Western-style restaurant, but unfortunately… So, I suddenly changed my destination. I returned to Namba by subway. It’s a five-minute walk from Namba Station. I visited a restaurant that a friend recommended to me. This long-established restaurant, which has been in business since 1959, is popular for its B-grade gourmet curry! It took more courage than I’ve ever had to go in 🤣 The exterior is a bit strange for a long-established restaurant 🤣 But the signboard has a nice atmosphere. I love long-established restaurants ♪ I went inside. It was a deep space with a Showa-era atmosphere. The interior is a strange space, full of signs, but strangely calming. The menu is cheap!! Fried shrimp is only 1,000 yen these days! If it was in my neighborhood, I’d definitely go there… Since this is my first visit, I’ll order their specialty, “Ceylon Rice” ♪ Not curry, but Ceylon Rice. I’m looking forward to seeing what it tastes like ♪ It ‘s here! It’s about the size of a midnight snack. I thought it was curry, but it’s more like porridge? ? This is the first time I’ve seen this visual. smooth as it looks. Is it delicious…? !!! This is school lunch curry 🤣 It’s a really nostalgic taste!! The spices come through gradually. Is it like a spicier school lunch curry? It’s a flavor I’ve never had before, and it’s addictive. The cutlet is like a cheap snack, but it’s crispy and the sauce is soaked in. It’s about time for a change of flavor. When you think of Osaka, curry and sauce are a staple. Yes, a familiar taste ♪ Sauce and curry really go together perfectly. The cutlet is also a great supporting actor. The more sauce you add, the more delicious it is♪ The onions were sweet and delicious too. I ate it all♪ Thank you for the meal! After that, I strolled around and headed back to Shinsaibashi☆ There are still many restaurants in Osaka that I want to visit and introduce, so I would like to go on another gourmet trip😊Thank you for watching until the end! I went to Jinen Ohatsu Tenjin Store on the last day…!! Looking forward to the new store…!
