スリランカに恋した理由🇱🇰 この国はあなたを驚かせるでしょう😲 ゴール市内観光

This video is brought to you by Squarespace. Well, welcome back to another video here in Sri
Lanka, everyone. Today we are in Galle. You’re going to see that uh famous lighthouse up there.
We’ll get into that soon. But one of the things we want to talk about today is just how much we
love this country. You guys are probably going to notice it’s quite windy out here today. It’s
quite windy. It’s funny. We were just down in the town area, which we’ll take you to in a second,
but now we’re up on like the fortress walls. Yes, this place is actually fortified. Really, really
cool. But the moment you step up here, it’s like, woo, you get hit with a big old gust of wind
that you don’t feel at all down in the town. I can’t remember if we said yet. This is our last
video from Sri Lanka. That’s really sad. So, this lighthouse behind me is actually the oldest
lighthouse here in Sri Lanka. Well, sort of anyway. I guess the original one was built in the
1800s by the British. It burned down in like 1934. And in my notes I had that it was rebuilt in
1939, but right on it it says 1938. So maybe it was started in 1938 and they completed it in 1939.
But there you have a little bit of history of this lighthouse right here. All right. So let’s talk a
little bit about Gaul and where we are here. So it is a city, but the fort, which is what we are in
now, is within that city. This is where everyone comes to visit. We’ve seen more tourists here
already than we’ve seen in the whole country. Yeah, there way more here than even in Colombo and
definitely in Mirissa. We only It was pretty quiet in Marissa, which last place we were at in case
you weren’t watching. But super interesting here. I do have some facts and I’ll pull up my phone
in a second about this area. I think it’s called something like one of the only living fortresses
in all of Asia. But I’ll I’ll fact check myself in a second. It’s just interesting because it’s
not just a fortress. Like people actually live in here. There are streets. We’ll take you around
in a second. It’s a really cool spot. Yeah. Yeah, I can’t wait to show you the streets. It’s one
of my favorite parts so far. It’s pretty cool cuz there’s a beach right next to us here. But
also, speaking of cool, we got a cannon. So now, now this maybe feels like you’re in a Florida a
little more. You got uh well that big thing and you got the walls. So everything’s here. Yeah,
you do have beaches here. I have no idea if in non rainy season when the water is much calmer.
Like do people come swimming here? Are they like are people lounging out on the beaches? I have no
idea. So I did just pull up my phone so I can go to some of those facts that I was just talking
about. did a little bit of free research before we came here. Um, so I was right. It is the only
living fort but not in Asia. It’s in South Asia. So people actually live, they work, they go to
school here within the fort wall. So that is pretty cool. Uh, and this fort is over 400 years
old. So like in Colbo, this was actually built by the Portuguese. That was the 1500s. Then in the
1600s, the Dutch were here and then after that the British were here. And this is also a UNESCO World
Heritage site. So, we were just talking amongst ourselves about all the different locations we’ve
been to so far. One of them was Colombo, which is a mega city, which is so very different than
this. This is a fort, and it’s reminding us of places that we’ve been to like in Vietnam, and you
were saying some of the Caribbean countries. Yeah, it reminds me a little, well, you were saying a
little bit of like Hoyen, which has a beautiful, you know, like beautiful streets like this. But
then it also reminds me of like being in the old city in like Cardahana and places like that,
too. Although there’s way more people there. In our last video, we were in a beach town.
Well, we were eating food in a beach town over in uh Marissa, which is again so different. We do
realize that we’ve only really kind of scratched the surface on this beautiful country. So, we’re
going to have to come back. Yeah, we only have limited days here. So, I know people are going to
probably already leaving comments saying, “I can’t believe you’re leaving already. You haven’t seen
so much of it.” So true. Well, we’re not leaving yet because we got much more of the video to
go. Uh because there’s a lot going on. You guys might notice these cool little streets on.
Look at this. There’s like tuk tucks everywhere. You may have noticed that there’s not many people
around. That’s because it’s rainy season or low season, so it’s all ours. Yeah, pretty much.
There are more tourists, as we already said, than I’ve seen anywhere, but it’s still really
exceptionally quiet. There are cats around. One of the things I read was that there are cats in
the city. It’s the first one I’ve seen. Well, there’s the first one. I wonder if it’s friendly.
It’s kind of occupied. Oh, it’s looking at Oh, there you go. And it wants food. Oh, another
cat coming. Oh, cat whisperer. Here we go. Hello. Hello, little baby. There are some kittens
over here, too. Oh, hello cuties. No, not very friendly. Maybe not. Hey, guys. A little nervous.
He’s got the paw up. A little nervous. Yeah, look at some of this architecture uh up here. So,
as we’re walking by, I mean, all the buildings are quite a bit different. It’s like places to
get something to eat as you’re just walking through. This is a whole different world for us
in the country so far, but we’re really digging it. Before we get any further in the video, we
just wanted to say a huge thanks to Squarespace, our longtime partner, for being a sponsor. Once

sponsoring this video and supporting creators like us. So, it is just a small fort, but one thing
I’m kind of shocked about is there’s actually cars in here. And I don’t know if some people find
that weird. I kind of do. I feel like anytime we say that in old towns that we say, “Oh, we’re
surprised there’s cars here.” People always get a little I don’t know upset about us saying
that. Even though there are lots of old towns, especially in Europe, where they limit the number
of cars or they don’t allow cars and it makes it a little more pleasant to walk around. I know it
makes it difficult for people that can’t walk. But it is nice. I mean, if you if you have just
tuk tucks and like motorbikes in here, I feel like it would be better. So, we just came across
this, I guess, historic looking church. I just looked it up. It’s an Anglican church. Dates back
to the 1800s. I guess when the British were here. There are a couple of churches in town because
I think there’s also a Dutch church which I don’t know if it’s still standing or not but it’s
somewhere around here as well. One thing we really appreciate about Sri Lanka is just how diverse
it is. I mean there’s Buddhists here. Hindu number one Buddhist followed by Hindu followed
by Muslims. There’s actually a mosque down by the very edge of the fort where we kind of started
off the video and then followed by Christians. And I think you also said well you already mentioned
the Dutch church that’s here as well. Yeah. So they I guess each each time the colonial people
came in like you know the Portuguese followed by the Dutch followed by the British they all
brought in their own religious. Everybody wanted Sri Lanka basically but we thought we’d
come inside and check out one of the shops here. Anna’s already eyeing some things. Nice stuff.
Yeah, this is a beautiful beautiful shop. I did read there are a lot of artists in this area. So
you can kind of see that here. This is I guess a gallery/shop. Yeah, this is cool. I’ll try to
show you guys some of this. Look at this artwork. Wow, this is amazing. And the space, as you can
probably tell, and look at the high ceilings. There’s lots of uh interesting things to look
at. For those of you that are new around here, you might not know that we recently just bought
a place in uh the Dominican Republic. So, we now have a place that we need to start
shopping for. And this makes me sad that I only have a really small suitcase and can’t go
shopping for our place here. Uh it’d be a very long way to take I don’t know this random bowl or
something like that all the way back to the good old Dominican Republic. Well, that’s what I call
a uh a store and that’s just one of them. So when we walk around this town, there’s shops like that
all over the place. So so far this little uh city here, Gaul, is quite unique. Yeah, it’s really
cool. So this over here is the Dutch hospital, which might actually sound familiar cuz in Colbo
there’s also a Dutch hospital. We went and walked around. It’s kind of similar looking. So I guess
it would have been built in the 1600s when the Dutch were here used as a hospital for their
service people. I would assume it was the same same as a Columbbo and now it’s like a whole bunch
of different shops and stuff. We found another viewpoint here. So we thought we’d uh kind of go
up and see what it’s all about. It does not take long to get from one end of the fort to the other.
Huh. No, it’s pretty small. I say it probably take 10 minutes to walk around the entire thing. Maybe
15 if you were really slow. You can get a little bit of a view of like the rest of the city from
over here. We’re in a interesting. We’re kind of in like on like a peninsula. I guess we got some
really nice ocean views up here as well. But the thing is it’s starting to rain. I don’t think
you guys are going to be able to tell yet. So, I think what we’re going to do to dodge the rain,
we’re going to head back to our hotel and we’ll show you guys where we’re staying. We dropped our
bags off before we could actually get in the room. So, we’re going to see it uh for the first time,
just like you guys are. Welcome to the hotel. It is literally right in the middle of the fort. So,
an amazing location. We just walked into our room. We literally just checked in a minute ago. This is
the first time we’re seeing it. This is amazing. You spend $50 a night on this. 50 bucks. Look at
this. So, we got a giant king-size bed here. Um, this looks like it’s going to be comfy. Now, we’re
just noticing if you look up there, there’s like a loft or something. Yeah. I don’t even know what’s
up here. See if we can uh steep stairs. Go right up there and see what it’s all about. Oh, there’s
like another bed up here. Like a little bed. So, if you had a kid, this would be perfect. We
probably won’t use this, but there is a little TV up here. We also have a little uh desk or I
guess it’s like a makeup station, but for me, I use that as a desk for working. Should we show
them the bathroom? The bathroom’s really nice. I don’t think you even seen it yet. Nope, I didn’t.
Yeah, it’s super nice. Got a big old sink here. Tons of space. Wow. A toilet there. And then check
this out. Walk-in shower. Oh my god, there’s a tub. A big like rainfall shower. And then a tub.
Oh my. Well, that’s going to do the trick. Yeah. I still can’t believe that you get all this for
just $50 a night. 50 US a night. So, this is one of the things about Sri Lanka that we’re loving.
It’s like the prices here are really good. Yeah. For really nice stuff. Cuz I feel like I remember
looking places up when I was researching where to stay here. And there’s some fancy hotels here
that are really expensive, but this is this seems fancy to me. And this is $50 a night. So, you can
definitely get some good good stuff for budget. We we’ve paid now well under $100 for every place
we’ve stayed in the country over the past like two weeksish. Yeah. And the bang for your buck here
is tremendous in the year 2025. That’s the best parts. A lot of countries, a lot of places in
the world are going up in in cost. And I’m sure they are here too. But for us, being Canadian,
it’s quite affordable to be here. It’s just a long haul to get here. That’s the issue. And some
people might actually recognize this place if you watch Jumping Places who are very good friends
of ours. They actually stayed here and that’s where I came up with the idea to stay here as well
cuz I remember watching their video and thinking that place is super cute and then looking it up
and it was so cheap. So, we’re here too. Well, it’s a little while later and we’ve come over
to a place called Secret Garden mainly to grab another lion beer since it’s going to be one of
our last ones and also try to get some internet. What we didn’t say is what we didn’t realize and
our hotel has absolutely terrible internet and we need to upload a video. So, you’ll see the speeds
here. We got this is actually good. 47. Um, but 3.7 up is not so good when you need to upload a
YouTube video. We’re looking at like 2 hours. So, what are we doing over here right now? I’m trying
to get an unlimited eim just for one day so we can upload a video. Sometimes they allow you to
hotspot, which is what we do is like get data on my phone and then hotspot his uh computer. This
is fun. The joys of travel, guys. Yeah. Well, we’re trying to get one of these videos that
you guys are watching now out. It’s Saturday, so tomorrow is our is our the day that our videos
go live. So, let’s hope. How we doing down there? I think I have it installed. Well, we did manage
to hotspot, so that’s a good sign. And the video is uploading. It’s got It’s at 5% 49 minutes
to go, so we’ll see. We don’t have a charger, so we’re going to have to make sure we just move
the mouse pad so it doesn’t go to sleep. Yeah. Does anybody know if your laptop goes to sleep,
will it continue to upload a video? We never put that to the test cuz we’re nervous that it’ll
like time out or something like that. But 49 minutes. Well, in the meantime, we do have some
yummy food coming. We do. Something that we’ve been looking for. I can’t remember if we talked
about this in this video, but in the last video, we did a food video, and there was one thing we’re
keeping our eyes out for that we could not find, so we’re having it today. These are hoppers,
and boy, did we have a hard time finding them, but thankfully, this place serves them all day.
Something that we learned when we were in Marissa was they seem to be an early morning thing and
then a late in the night thing. Not really during the day, which is when we were looking for
them. But here you can get them any time of the day. They’re basically like a pancake shaped
into a bowl form. And then you can get them with various things in them. So these went to our egg
hoppers. And these two are just plain hoppers. And then they give you some curry and some spicy
sauce to dip them into. They smell good. Well, if they’re wondering why the lighting is so weird.
Yeah. Look at this. We got this guy happening up here. We got the video uploading over this way. We
got a little bit of like a wind tunnel happening here if you’re wondering why this is blowing
around. Yeah, you’ll have some weird lighting, but it doesn’t matter because we’re about
to dig into these guys. Look at this. So, I’m going to start just with the plain one
just to see what really what it’s all about, what it tastes like. I’m assuming the concept is
that you kind of like rip a piece off. Sorry if I do this wrong, but never had these before. Rip
these off and then like dip it in the sauce. Might actually try it by itself first just to see. M.
Yeah. Totally tastes like a cake or like a pancake or a small crepe. Like a really really thin crepe.
Yummy flavor to it. Almost like a I almost say like an almond flavor or something going on. It’s
way more way yummier than you would think based on what it looks like. But try this in the curry.
Oh, that curry looks beautiful. Coconut curry. M. Oh, you guys, the curries here are
unbelievable. The food here has been incredible, but the curries have just blown our minds. Nice
and simple. There’s not too much spice going on in this one. Apparently, this is where the spices at.
But I just love how coconuty the curries are. I know they very much depend on coconut here with um
most of their food. So, the curries are just full of coconuty flavor. It’s so good. I’m going to try
this one with the egg in it. So, an egg hopper. Now, I have no idea how to eat this because if I
pull a piece off, the egg’s going to kind of break apart and it’s all in there nicely. It’s almost
like attached to the pancake at this point. So, I don’t know. I’m going to fold it up. You guys can
tell me if I’m doing it wrong. I will take a bite um before I try it in the sauce and just to get
the the egg and the I guess the pancake itself. [Music] Oh, yeah. That’s delicious. Oh my
god. Maybe my favorite thing I’ve had yet. So, as Anna said, like the outside is so similar
to a pancake. Like it’s a little bit sweet and you can see there’s like little markings
on there just like a pancake would be. So, however they fry that up, it’s very similar
to I guess our traditional pancakes that we have in Canada or something like the United
States. On the inside though is like where this is at. Look at the egg. Oh, it’s so
good when you got them both together. Again, something I never think to do if we’re back in
Canada to take an egg and just kind of mold it into a very thin pancake. But let’s try it with
this um curry sauce because, you know, I’m sitting here smelling this thing and watching Anna
eat uh with this with without the egg. [Music] Oh man, that’s the stuff right
there. Let’s go for the spicy sauce. I’m going make a get a bit of
a generous uh generous clump there. I love it. I’m so glad we found this. Woo! Mouth
is starting to go on fire. Need some beer. All right, that’s going to cool things down. Back to
the topic of video and why we love Sri Lanka. It’s everything that we’ve talked about so far today,
but this is one of the reasons why we have pretty much come here for the food, more or less. I’m
being a little cheeky there, but not entirely. The food here has been some of the best we’ve had in
the entire world, and I think we’re at somewhere around close to 70 countries at this point. This
food is exceptional. Again, we had food video in the last um I think the last episode. You guys can
watch that if you want to see some of the other dishes. But glad we found the hoppers. This was
what we were looking for the whole time and no one could tell us why we couldn’t find them. I still
don’t know why we couldn’t find them. I think though it’s a breakfast or night thing. But if
you guys get the chance and you’re in Sri Lanka, come and try one of these glorious things because
they are my absolute favorite thing so far. Well, it’s another day now and we’re really close to the
airport. We’re at an airport hotel. We do have a pool, but there’s one problem. We won’t be using
that because it’s kind of raining again. Surprise, surprise. It’s been the theme. Uh well, part
of the theme, we still had a blast here either way. We knew it was going to be raining. Um
and really it wasn’t really that bad. Uh we were here for nine or going to be here for nine
full nights. I feel like out of like 8 days, it kind of rained half of it. Yeah, half of it. We
got lots of sun as well. And we had so much fun. Just the hard part was trying to plan things. So
we realized we did not cover all of the country in this series. There was four videos. This
country is enormous. Yeah, it’s a big country. We are traveling for a long time, so we can’t burn
ourselves out by going somewhere every 2 days, or else we’d never make it through all of our
travels. So, we settled a little bit in Marissa, and it was nice to see kind of the southern part
of uh Sri Lanka. But next time, we will definitely see more. Back to the topic at hand though, one of
the things we wanted to touch on was the people. The people here, the Sri Lankans are so incredibly
nice. So nice, so friendly, very like softspoken, and just very sweet. Really nice. Nice people.
anytime we were lost or I don’t know looking for directions, had questions about food in general,
people want to know where we’re from. Yeah. And they just want to talk to us and they love that
we’re here and they make the country so welcoming. So that’s one of the reasons we love this country.
It’s really approachable and it’s easy to kind of be here. Everyone speaks English. So everyone’s so
nice. Everyone’s almost everyone speaks English. So it just it’s an easy country. Uh, I think maybe
I mentioned slightly in another video about like being a little intimidated by going to India, a
place we haven’t been yet. And I think Sri Lanka is kind of like a nice way in. Like the people
are really really friendly and nice. The food is similar uh but so good. So like you kind of
like get a I don’t want to say a taste of India, but like you’re really close to India, but
it’s not as intimidating. I’m sure there are similarities, but we realize the countries are
very different. But speaking of this country, we will be back here. So, if you guys are watching,
leave us a message on what we missed. I mean, where we should obviously go to. We will come
back. When we say it, we mean it. It might be years from now, or it could be just 6 months from
now. We’re not sure, but we will be back. Uh, speaking of traveling and going to new countries,
we are off to a new destination next. Yeah, we have a very, very, very early flight tomorrow.
We’re going to have to get up. I don’t even know where we’re going to sleep to be honest, but
we’re going to Are we going to say where we’re going? Let’s say it. It’s a bucket list place. The
Maldes. We are finally going to the Maldives. So, pretty close to where we’re at, an hour and
a half flight. And um we figured it’s time to finally do this. We want to see it once in our
lives. So, expect hopefully a couple of Maldives videos. We’ll see. Meeting up with some friends
there, too. Yeah. Meeting up with some friends. Hopefully the weather holds up, but it’s going to
be a blast. So, we’re going to call it here. We got to start packing for the next adventure.
We will see you guys next Sunday. If you got this far or you like the series in general, the
whole Sri Lankan series, hit the like button, leave us a comment. pack. Subscribe while you’re
at it. But for now, it’s time to do some packing. All right, guys. That’s it from Sri Lanka.
Wishing you delightful travels. See you soon. [Music]

In our final video from Sri Lanka, we’re exploring the beautiful and historic city of Galle—and talking about why we’ve fallen in love with this incredible country. Located on Sri Lanka’s southwest coast, Galle Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and later fortified by the Dutch. Today, it’s a charming walled city filled with colonial architecture, boutique shops, cozy cafés, and gorgeous views.

We start by walking the fort walls, visiting the iconic lighthouse, and checking out the surrounding beaches. Along the way, we stop into small shops, wander down cobblestone streets, and visit old churches. We also give you a tour of our hotel—Ivy Lane Galle Fort—a stylish and affordable stay right inside the fort for only $50 a night.

Next, we head out in search of reliable Wi-Fi (our hotel internet wasn’t great!) before finally finding something we’ve been looking for since the last video—Egg Hoppers! We try them at a charming little spot called Secret Garden Café.

We end the video at a hotel near the airport before our departure, reflecting on the highlights of our time here and why Sri Lanka has completely won us over—from the food and people to the landscapes and culture.

  1. Unfortunately some tourist locations in Sri Lanka are being invaded by Zionist Israelis who have started businesses illegally and started driving locals out. 😒

  2. I’m a Sri Lankan and would like to invite travelers around the world to visit wonderful Island of Sri Lanka and a land like no other. Friendliest people on earth.

  3. Thanks so much for visiting Sri Lanka. Also excellent comments about Sri Lanka and its people. Travellers are the real ambassadors.who are influencing others with first hand correct information. In this politicise world when the main media are spreding falls news about countries who do not tow their line according to their vimps and fancies.
But tourists and travellers through social media give the correct pictures to all. Your Chanel showed the Canadian media whatl Sri Lanka is all about. Suppressing all the fake news about Sri Lanka.
    Hat's off for that .
Have a safe and happy journey.
