  1. So it looks like this event has been a test pull and the celebration of the completed inspection for the Hikiyama float. The actual Hino Matsuri Festival is taking place on May 2nd, as it has been for 800 years already.

    In 2018, the Hino Hikiyama Preservation Society began a repair project, after the Hikiyama sustained damage and age-related deterioration during that year's parade. The Honmachi Hikiyama is the fifth Hikiyama being partially dismantled between 2023 and 2024. All damaged wooden parts were repaired, the lacquer was repainted, and the metal fittings were renewed. Apparently, the Hikiyama that you showcased in this clip is actually one of 16 Hikiyama, which already existed during the Horeki period (1751-64). The last known large-scale repair happened in 1860.

    Additionally, the footage from the Hina Matsuri was splendid. I especially liked the high attendance as well as the kimono wearing ladies posing for pictures and having a good time. ✌
