I took a motorcycle taxi to the first wealthy area today. If you have watched my previous videos, you will know that this is the fourth time that Ashu has come to Hanoi, Vietnam in two months. I have lived in Hanoi for more than 10 days in total and filmed 6 episodes of these videos. There are many Vietnamese comments in these videos. I remember one comment was written like this: “Some foreign tourists came to Hanoi, Vietnam, stayed in the Old Town and took some photos. They thought that the streets in Hanoi, Vietnam were narrow and noisy, and the houses were old and disorderly. But in fact, that is not all of Hanoi, Vietnam. If you leave the Old Town for more than 10 kilometers, you will break the prejudice formed in the Old Town and see a different Hanoi, Vietnam. There are beautiful residential buildings, bustling shopping malls, comfortable parks, and it is very modern. It looks like Singapore.” Among them, a Vietnamese audience recommended that I go to see Vinhomes Riverside in Long Bien District, more than 10 kilometers away from Hanoi Old Town . I looked up information and learned that Vinhomes Riverside is known as one of Vietnam’s top affluent areas. It is owned by Vinhomes, Vietnam’s largest real estate developer. It built Vietnam’s tallest building, Landmark 81 in Ho Chi Minh City . Its parent company, Vingroup , is Vietnam’s most valuable company and the largest conglomerate in Vietnam. Its businesses cover real estate (Vinhomes), retail (Vincom Retail), electric vehicles (Vinfast), healthcare , education and other fields . Its founder is Vietnam’s richest man. In short, today we will explore Vinhomes. Riverside is one of the representative luxury residential projects of Vinhomes, the largest real estate company in Vietnam. Frankly speaking, the motorcycle guy was driving very fast the whole way . It was not thrilling, but I was a little nervous. He kept overtaking other cars . The ten-plus kilometers took a long time. Maybe it was because I was on the motorcycle, the scorching sun , and it felt a bit dangerous , so time seemed to be very slow. In a foreign country scorched by the scorching sun, please give us some likes and support. It took about 20 minutes, almost 30 minutes. This is very similar to the wealthy areas in Hanoi. Some residents were already fishing in the small river in front of the yard . Look at these single-family villas. They are very valuable. Wow, this is the first time I have been to a place so far away from Hanoi’s Old Town. Although it is only more than ten kilometers, I even wondered if the guy had a wrong navigation. How could it be so far? Maybe we have arrived. Is it here? Oh, we have arrived. I saw this plaque . It is worthy of being the top wealthy area in Hanoi, Vietnam. I took a taxi all the way here, but I couldn’t get in. The guard said that if I want to go in, I need to find a guarantor . So we can only look at it from the outside. This wealthy community is called Vinhomes. He stopped me at Riverside . I was filming the wealthy area of Vietnam today. I was quite worried that the video would be ruined halfway through because I’m not really interested in this topic. There are too many wealthy people in the world, and there are such people in every country. Compared to looking at the life of the rich , I am more concerned about the life of the poor or the lower class. I braved hunger and took a ride for more than ten kilometers , and this is the result. And it’s a three-story detached villa. Can we take a look at the aerial photography ? But now I’m starving. I’m really scared that I will faint. This is what it feels like around here . I walked for a kilometer and tried to find a place to eat, but there was none. Don’t faint from hunger in this place. Looking around There’s nothing to eat around here, only watermelons are sold over there. Look, there’s an alley leading into it with some small shops. Let me see if there’s anything to eat in there. Okay , please don’t cross the zebra crossing. I didn’t have breakfast this morning and my stomach is empty. I originally wanted to have breakfast in the rich area to experience the food and prices there , but I didn’t expect to be so hungry that I felt like fainting while walking . This is called the urban-rural fringe, or in Chinese terms, the urban-rural fringe. Okay, I see there’s a restaurant here. Is this a fast food restaurant? Hello , this fast food restaurant looks very rich and has a lot of variety . It’s 10 o’clock in the morning now, and this fast food restaurant is here. If you see this, the network has become 3G. This should be the first time I’ve seen a takeaway box in Vietnam, and it’s also the first time I’ve seen one. Oh my goodness , this is the cheapest fast food meal I’ve had in Vietnam in almost two months. It’s only 35,000 Vietnamese dong, which is about 10 yuan for an omelet. These are called gala rolls, pork ribs, and here are some fried beef with onions . This rice is a timely help. Wow, it’s delicious, delicious. Let’s try it. This is a Vietnamese specialty called gala rolls . It’s delicious, delicious. It looks like minced meat and wood ear mushrooms . The boss said there’s tea, too. Thank you. I thought this was tea, but this seems to be sweet and sour water, right? It’s salty, probably a dipping sauce . This is a bowl of soup. If you come to the non-tourist areas of Hanoi, you can feel that the people here are very welcoming, with very friendly smiles on their faces all the time. There’s a big contrast here with the takeout , you see. About 100 meters away is a stinking ditch with a market value of several million RMB . The water is black. Why is it black? I flew over it for five minutes and felt like I was being roasted. It was too sunny. The contrast was just too great. To my right is the black ditch. There must be an industrial park nearby. The crisscrossing streams and rivers in the wealthy area across the way are like the Vietnamese version of Wuzhen. They are extremely green and clear , with coconut trees, various fruit trees, and mango trees. Yesterday, I looked up some information about Vinhomes, the largest real estate company in Vietnam. The community to my right, Vinhomes Riverside, is owned by this largest real estate company in Vietnam. The high-end ecological residential area developed by this company is known as the “Venice of Hanoi”. According to information, it is inspired by the Italian romantic style and integrates natural landscapes with modern living facilities. It represents the top level of real estate development in Vietnam. I stepped on something soft and saw it was a ripe mango . The delivery guy had to talk to the security guard before entering the community. The security guard communicated with the owner before agreeing to let him in . The building opposite has the Vietnamese flag hanging on its windowsill . The supporting facilities of this community are not simple. There is the British International School Hanoi. There is even a center shopping mall and park in this community . As I walked, I found that it has an entrance without security blocking it. This is an entrance about 800 meters away from the gate with security guards. We can take a closer look at what kind of supporting facilities these high-end wealthy communities have. There is a garbage disposal station here, and it is also written Vinhomes. The supporting departments of real estate are quite complete. This intersection is surrounded by Vinhomes in all four directions. Riverside houses. Now you can take a closer look at these single-family villas. Some have three-story white exteriors. There are some parked at the small dock. There are swan boats for children to row on. There seem to be some at every intersection . As soon as we entered the security booth, we were called out by the security guard and not allowed to go inside, so we walked around outside . Across the street are all Vinfast electric cars. Across the street is a charging station , which is another automotive business unit of Vietnam’s richest man. You see, VF5 is an electric car brand that is still developing and not yet very stable. Therefore, at this stage, foreign electric car brands are unlikely to enter, whether it’s China’s BYD or the United States’ Tesla . The feeling of birds singing, flowers blooming , and water flowing slowly. According to Vinhomes’ official website, the total area of the community is over 70 hectares, with a 12.4-hectare Harmony Lake and an 18.6-kilometer ecological canal system. The greening rate is as high as 60-70 square meters per person, far exceeding the standards of developed countries like Singapore. The project was named “World’s Best Real Estate Project” in 2018. The residential types are also quite diverse, including single-family villas, townhouses, duplex villas, and convention houses. The center is so beautiful . Living here , does it feel like you’re on vacation in a tourist area every day? It’s quite quiet, a bit like Venice, with its waterways surrounding the houses and crisscrossing each other. There’s water in front of every house, and some fitness equipment. I walked along the path beside the river, and I found that there’s a big road for cars, which we can walk into, but there are security booths in every alley that extends to the left and right , and we can’t get into any of them. I saw that the security team should be quite large, and there’s a security booth at every intersection. There’s a children’s amusement park over there, right? This is called the market , which is the shopping center of this community. Let’s take a look at what cars are parked in this community. Being able to afford a BMW in Vietnam is completely different from being able to afford a BMW in China, because Vietnam is… The tariffs on imported cars are particularly high. Look, there’s another BMW, and that’s a Mercedes-Benz over there. Vietnam’s import tariffs on cars are generally high, especially for whole-vehicle imports, where the tax rate can reach between 70% and 80%. Some high-end models are even higher. The background to this is that the Vietnamese government protects local car brands through high tariff policies, such as Vietnam’s first local electric car brand, Vindfast. I also saw Vietnam’s local electric car brand, Vinfast. This is the representative brand of Vietnam’s richest man’s automotive business, Toyota and Hyundai. Wow, Toyota, Japanese, and Korean cars are the most numerous here . There’s also a Volvo here . These are some commercial businesses in the community, including a Western restaurant that serves pizza . This is the shopping mall. There’s a Japanese restaurant here, but maybe because it was too hot at noon, there weren’t many people there. According to Vinhomes in 2023 Public information about Riverside shows that its price range is mainly between 68 million VND and 90 million VND per square meter , which is about 20,000 to 30,000 RMB per square meter. However, this is only a reference price; the actual selling price may vary due to market fluctuations and specific properties . What about a villa? It ranges from about 200 to 800 square meters, so a rough estimate is that a villa costs about 3 to 4 million RMB to more than 10 million RMB. There are some elements of Peking Opera, 80,000 VND, and Chinese flavors. We can understand one thing: beer clubs, medical clinics, spas, and Thai restaurants. Although it is just a small community, it has everything. Look at my skin, it’s sunburned. Across the street is the British International School. Hanoi, wow, it’s so hot, I want to drink some water. I feel like I’m going to get a sunstroke, my whole body is burning. This is called a market, it ‘s very international, it’s comfortable here , there’s air conditioning , yes, there are convenience stores, which is great and not expensive , only five or six yuan a bottle , 20,000 VND, 18,000 VND, 19,000 VND, wow, this bottle is only 16,000 VND , which is less than five yuan. Watermelon is 13,900 VND per kilogram, mango is 19,900 VND per kilogram , cantaloupe is 65,000 VND per kilogram, bananas are over 26,000 VND per kilogram. This is a commercial street with restaurants, convenience stores , salons , and clothing stores . This is a bar that sells cosmetics, and this is a pharmacy . I’m so thirsty, I’ll drink a glass of water first, it ‘s so comfortable. Let me tell you something off topic, because there’s a true story about the woman next door in my village. My neighbor works as a housekeeper in a villa in Guangzhou, Guangdong. She said the villa’s market value is over 10 million RMB. Her owner often works outside and may only come home one or two days a week . Every day, she mops the floor and does some basic cleaning work at home. She said that she often works alone in a large villa, which seems quite meaningful. This reminds me of a popular joke in the past. It said that a young couple dreamed of living in a sea view villa when they got married . They would just hold their dog on the balcony, bask in the sun, drink coffee, and watch the sea. They worked hard for many years and finally realized their dream. They bought a sea view villa and a dog . However, the mortgage pressure was huge. They had to work hard every day to make money and had to hire a nanny to take care of the housework. Looking after the dog , so the most common thing their nanny does every day is to hold the dog on the balcony, bask in the sun, drink coffee, and watch the sea. The employer has worked hard all his life and finally let the nanny live the life they originally wanted. What I want to say is that sometimes it is good to be rich, but even if you don’t have it, as an ordinary person , how can you live your life well? I want to do what I think is meaningful , so I think it is also very good to live a life like this . You don’t have to pursue luxury cars and villas (I hope to see your thoughts on this). Look, this villa is facing a shopping mall. Toyota cars. There is a black swan in this small river. Can you see it? I took a grab and drove a Vietnamese electric car brand Vinfast. There are about 10 charging stations here. After leaving the Vinhomes Riverside community, I went to a shopping mall nearby. This can be understood as a commercial supporting shopping mall for the above-mentioned community . Earlier, we talked about Vinhomes’ parent company, Vingroup. In addition to the real estate business segment and the automobile business segment, it also has a retail business segment. So this Longbian Yongwang Shopping Mall is Vinhomes. This is a large shopping mall developed by Retail . They belong to the same parent company and are very close to each other , both located in Hanoi’s Long Bian District. The following content was filmed quite casually, and you might find it a bit boring. This is the kind of large shopping mall we imagine. If you’re not interested, the video ends here . If you want to understand Vietnam’s lifestyle , consumption, commerce, food , and even the spiritual outlook, you might want to watch it later. If you think the filming is good, don’t forget to like and subscribe to my channel. This is a great support for me. Thank you for watching. I’m Atlas, and we’ll see you next time. Vietnam is the world’s second largest garment manufacturing base, second only to China . This is where many garment brands’ factories are located. So Hanoi not only has old neighborhoods rich in history and culture like Hanoi’s Old Town, but also this modern shopping mall. I saw the Chinese brand Anta Bookstore. Wow, there are so many children. My child is reading here. It’s great. Nowadays, whenever I see very young children watching short videos on their phones, I feel worried. This society has so many people. The seats are basically full. Look at all the flavors mixed together, the food from different countries. Today is Sunday . It’s a public space like a school cafeteria . Every restaurant shares these tables. Wow , there are so many people lining up. This is the first time I’ve seen this side of Hanoi, Vietnam. It feels vibrant and energetic in terms of consumption . It feels like Haidilao. Today is Sunday, and there are still quite a lot of people lining up at Haidilao in Vietnam . There are so many young Vietnamese people at the buffet. It’s worthy of being the largest and most prosperous shopping mall in Long Bien County . It’s big enough, has a lot of traffic, and has everything you need for eating, drinking, having fun, and the hot pot is pretty good. Most shopping malls in China are basically deserted because there are too many malls and not enough people. There’s also a parking lot on the top floor. Yes, this should be a supermarket, similar to Walmart , which provides one-stop shopping services. This meal is only 9 yuan. This minced meat and egg is also 9 yuan . This one is also about 9 yuan. This one is about 13 yuan. This one is 7 yuan . We can see that the sushi is 100,000 Vietnamese dong per 1000 grams, which is about 30 yuan. 1000 grams is about 15 yuan. 500 grams, like this one, is 350,000 Vietnamese dong, about 105 yuan. There are many tropical fruits, such as longan , lychee , mango, 25,000 Vietnamese dong per 1000 grams, jackfruit, 35,000 Vietnamese dong per 1000 grams, and banana, 42,000 Vietnamese dong per 1000 grams. After coming out, it is like walking into a steam room. This huge number of motorcycles is quite spectacular. Let’s take a look at so many motorcycles.

  5. A big fat huge thumbs up for Ashu and this video. It’s a true perspective of VN’s current and future that is rarely seen or known by foreigners.

The level of activities in that mall in the 2nd half of the video is eye opening on the disposable income of VN’s rapidly growing middle and upper middle income class. I am very impressed by Vingroup investing in a lot of good supporting facilities in their property development such as schools, health clinic, etc
I doubt even foreign English teachers that live and work in VN even know about this. And thank you for taking the time on a hot day to go so far out of Ha Noi Old Quarter do this video.

  6. For those that want to comment those houses are owned by foreigners, look at the Vietnamese in that inside mall that live in Vinhome Riverside. They are not tourists that are just visiting. VN is growing its middle and upper middle class rapidly and in all 3 regions and even in some mid-tier cities and not just Ha Noi or HCMC.

VN’s social economic profile is changing in a similar manner as China. I find it ironic and funny how 2 Communist countries are outdoing so-called Western democratic capitalist countries and they are able to lift so many people out of poverty in a stable fashion !! And unlike Western countries, these 2 countries don’t go around lecturing other countries and have lifted their countries without resorting to military/political/economic bullying.
