*There is a narration this time. Hello everyone. Today I am heading to Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture. It takes about an hour from Nagoya by local train or limited express . Nakatsugawa City is said to be the birthplace of Kurikinton. As someone from the Kanto region, this is what I imagine when I imagine the popular New Year’s dish Kurikinton , but the Kurikinton you can eat in Nakatsugawa is a little different. Nakatsugawa is also the location of one of the post stations on the Nakasendo route. You can also go to Magome-juku by bus, so if you are interested, please go there. Now, I would like to leave immediately in search of chestnut kinton. It’s about a 6 minute walk from the station. It’s a store that gives you a sense of history. I bought it. There was a good place nearby called Honmachi Hiroba , so I decided to have it here. Suyano’s long-awaited chestnut kinton. Apparently, the chestnuts are cooked using only the water from the chestnuts, without using any water . I’ll enjoy having this. Sorry for showing you a half-eaten cross section. The only ingredients are chestnuts and sugar. The texture is soft and fluffy and disappears in your mouth in no time. It has a gentle, simple and delicate taste. I would like to have it with hot tea. We also have a store at Takashimaya in Nagoya, so you can buy in bulk there as well. Next is Kawakami-ya, which is about a 9-minute walk from Suya. Suya and Kawakami-ya are said to be the two biggest names. Kawakami-ya is said to have been founded at the end of the Edo period. I bought it. This looks delicious too. I’ll have it right away. You can really feel the chestnut flavor. This is moist and has a soft texture. Next is the confectionery shop Shin, which is about a 7-minute walk from Kawakami-ya. We ate in the space outside the store. This itself looks cute. The color is darker than Suya Kawakami-ya. Let’s have it then. A fluffy texture. You can really feel the taste of chestnuts and the sweetness of sugar. I felt like it was a little similar to Kawakami-ya . This time , I bought 2 pieces at each store as souvenirs , and I’m definitely going to want to eat more of them. As I’m editing it, I’m receiving quite a bit of chestnut terrorism. Next, go to Shogetsudo, which is about a 3-minute walk from Shin. This is also a long-established store founded in 1900. I ate inside the restaurant this time, but it’s basically like takeout. The color is deep yellow. Let’s have it then. It has a moist texture and a slightly sticky texture. It had a simple sweetness, but I felt it was sweeter than Suya. So far, I’ve been comparing the flavors and giving my impressions, but I think each person’s tastes are different, so I’d like everyone to try each of them. Well, at this timing, it’s about a 3 minute walk from Shogetsudo. I came to a restaurant called Sarashina for lunch. I ordered yam soba. The combination of yam, egg, and soba was very delicious. As I was editing it, I remembered that I made a terrible mistake by forgetting to have the soba soup at the end. Well, this is not the end. Next time I’ll walk a little. About 20 minutes walk from Sarashina. If you are feeling tired, please take a taxi. I followed the instructions on Google Maps, and although I had to climb a steep hill, the scenery was beautiful and soothing. After walking for a while, I found a shop from the top of the pedestrian bridge. This is Suyano Nishiki store. I came here because I wanted to try the seasonal menu at this sweets shop . Wood is used throughout the store, creating a relaxing atmosphere. This is what I ordered. Chestnut Shiruko. It seems that it is only available for a limited time from October to December. Depending on the situation, it may end early, so we recommend arriving early. I’ve been waiting for you, Shiruko Kuri. I want to be wrapped in this pure white rice cake. I wonder if it’s in the region that there is nozawana pickles for chopstick rest. Let’s have it right away. The chestnut paste is entwined with the rice cake. Yes, it’s sweet and delicious. The mochi is also soft and easy to eat. There are also small pieces of chestnuts in it, so you can tell that they are making full use of chestnuts. I don’t want to say it’s seasonal, I want to eat it anytime, but I guess it’s okay because it’s seasonal. When I looked at the customers, there were many male customers as well, and I realized that they were loved. Now, here are my impressions after comparing the tastes of Kurikinton. Please note that this is my personal opinion. Suya has a crumbly texture and a simple and delicate sweetness. Kawakami-ya has a moist texture and a strong chestnut flavor and sweetness. The candy Tokoro Shin has a chewy texture and a strong chestnut flavor and sweetness. Shogetsudou has a moist and sticky texture and a deep yellow color. Thank you for the meal. On the way back, I will walk a little along Nakasendo. I was wondering for a moment if people of the past walked here as well. It’s my first time in Nakatsugawa, but next time I want to take a closer look around Magome-juku. By the way, it seems that you can also taste and compare chestnut kinton at the Nigiwai Bussankan in front of Nakatsugawa Station. It’s nice to have a horizontal view.
