東京都と神奈川県の境をなぞるように、境川沿いを歩いていく。旧流路が残された遊水池のそばに、人影のない小道が続いていた。遠くに見えていた寺は泉龍寺──創建は室町の終わり頃という。境内には、くり抜かれた地蔵や三重塔、珍しい造形の弁天像が静かに並び、祈りの気配だけが空間に染み込んでいた。隣には幼稚園、宗教施設に寄り添う日常の営み。その光景がなぜか印象に残る。やがて東京側に戻り、町田市金森の住宅街を抜けると、旧境川の痕跡がそのまま残る水辺に出た。橋脚や護岸が草に覆われ、今も忘れられずにある地形が、都市の静脈のように横たわっている。最後に辿り着いた西田金山神社は、刀鍛冶の屋敷神という。塗装の剥げた社殿、崩れかけた石碑が、時の風を受けながらそこにあった。歩かなければ通り過ぎてしまうもの、語られないまま残る風景。都市と信仰と記憶の隙間を、今日は静かに歩いた。
