Founded in the 16th century, Ponta do Sol was a sugar hub and remains one of Madeira’s key farming regions. This is the sunniest town in Madeira — over 300 sunny days a year. From the first steps, you feel it — the town’s alive, but not in a rush.
People go about their day, while you just walk, watch, take it all in. The architecture is simple but beautiful — white walls, stone details, tile roofs, carved balconies. Street cafés are everywhere — simple spots with views of the sea or old town walls. This promenade is named after February 1, 1908 — the day Portugal’s King Carlos I was assassinated. The cliffs aren’t just background — this town is squeezed between ocean and mountain. This is the Atlantic Ocean — one of the deepest and oldest on Earth, colder and stronger than it looks. This is the old viewpoint on the Ponta do Sol pier — carved into volcanic rock. Behind you is the village. In front — the Atlantic. And a silence that doesn’t need words. The main church of the town, built in the 17th century — one of the oldest buildings in southwest Madeira. After the sun sinks into the Atlantic, everything feels closer — the light, the stone, your breath. Even when they’re empty, there’s no tension — just calm.
It’s like the place itself says: “you don’t need to do anything… just keep walking.” A town with history, but not a museum — people live, work, drink coffee by the street.

Die Insel,ist jetzt zum Geheimtipp geworden 😅😅😅😅 Nun muß die ganze Welt nach Madeira 😅 Es wir das zweite Venedig oder Dubrovnik . Wir kommen seit 2016 jährlich 2 mal auf diese schöne Blumeninsel..Immer nach Funchal,in unsere kleine Quinta Mirabela. Was 2016 Erholung war ist heute Urlauberstress.Versopfte Straßen , parkende Autod bis in den nächsten Ort.Warteschlangen an der Seilbahn 1 /30 ,zurück von Monte mit dem Schlitten. 2/30 St.Lärmende Motorräder brausen über die Avenida Drei,Kreuzfahrtschiffe mit 7500 Pasagiern und Hotels wie das ,Savoy ,Pestana ,u.s.w mit bis zu 320 Zimmer.. .Die Insel wird den Touristen zum fraß vorgeworfen. Weiter so.😊
