ニューヨーク最大にして最高のチャイナタウンを訪ねて

Most of the time when you hear Chinatown in New York City, there’s only one place one can think of. But today, we are going to go beyond Manhattan and we are going to take you to our favorite Chinatown in New York City. Welcome to Flushing, Queens. [Music] Just a 45minute 7 train ride from Time Square and you will be greeted with beautiful chaos. So busy this time of the day. Pork buns, dumplings, noodles, and a whole lot more. [Music] So come along with us as we take you to our favorite spots and let’s take a bite. A lot of people don’t know that New York City is home to many Chinatown and Flushing is by far our favorite. It is our favorite Chinatown in New York City. Coming to Flushing, it’s always an adventure. It’s like scavenger hunt. Uh there’s a lot of food, a lot of sightes to see, and you really really have to be intentional where you’re going because you can get lost and you get carried away in this little little little um side of Flushing. Anyway, we are heading to our next spot which is here. [Music] We find ourselves often here at the New World Mall. This is also one of the mall food court that we love. Very famous, legendary. Top place you would eat here. I would say [Music] we started coming to Flushing like almost every week since 2013. Yeah, since 2013. And um this place has changed a lot also. A lot. Still looks the same, but a lot of the vendors have changed. Got to pick one place to eat in Flushing. You got to just pick one place at all, it’ll be here. You get everything you want here. Noodles, dumplings. We had to narrow down what to eat here because you can eat pretty much everywhere in this. So many good options. So say you can do your whole meal here, no problem. Since you come with a crew of people, you can order from a lot of stalls and just have a huge piece in front of you. Which brings me to a point about our food tour. We host a Airbnb food tour in Jackson Heights, but we also do private food tour for anyone who’s interested in exploring Queens. [Music] Pand fried bow Shanghai style. Look at the crispy bottoms. These are a showstopper. When you walk in here, you see the pans rotating. They’re making them fresh in front of you. Nice crispy bottoms, soft on top. Top of the black sesame seeds. Got to be careful when you eat these though, cuz there’s a lot of broth in there. See, I’m already doing all the preparation. You see, you can eat it like soup dumplings. Mhm. A small bite. [Music] Ooh. Very delicate flavor of that broth. You got to do add vinegar. So, I hole you just bit. and chili oil. Now you get the ultimate bite. Feeling so juicy. Has a delicate flavor underneath it, but you got the tanginess of the vinegar, the spice from the chili oil, a little bit of scallion there. Fantastic. One of the best things you can eat at New World Mall for sure. That’s the soup that just came out of here. put it back in there. A lot of stalls here have come and gone. I can count maybe five places that have been here ever since we’ve been coming. So that’s 12 years, including this one we just ordered from and the one next to it. And so mostly Chinese food, but you do find a little bit of Korean food here, but a lot of different regional dishes, right? So we got Sichuan food here, uh, lanzo. There’s a lot of different regions. It’s always changing hands here. It’s very, of course, you got your popular boba chains. There’s like what? One, two, three, at least three or four chains of BA spots here. So, very popular. Also, this is the place. This is our favorite dry hot pot, Mala. Look at all the choices. So many choices, but we don’t even choose from that many. We just pick one thing. And lots of veggies. Uh, chicken and veggie. Thank you. Cauliflower. Yes, please. H for here. Yes, please. Thank you. We have Mala dry pot. So, think of hot pot but without the broth. And look at this dark red sauce. The Sichuan peppercorns, ginger, garlic, you name it. And this place is interesting because you pick out all the meats and seafoods you want by the pound. So, it get out of control pretty quickly if you don’t uh if you get a little carried away. You get quite expensive. So, we just got chicken. Usually, that’s what we get. But, you can get sausage, beef, lamb, all types of seafood, pork, you name it. And then you pick uh there’s five or six vegetables. They’ll tell you when your last one. So you got broccoli, cauliflower, wood, mushroom, bok choy, all the good stuff. We got it different spice levels here. So we usually get it medium. So it’s just right. You can get it very spicy if you want. So this one of the most popular stalls here in the mall. You’ll see the wooden bowls are very distinctive. They belong to the stall. So you’ll see a lot of people in the food court eating out of these wooden bowls. And that’s how you know. If you know, you know. special. The musth have rice. Yeah, they give you a certain number of rice. It tastes so much better with rice. This is the best way to eat veggies, I tell you. If you don’t like veggies, just soak it in this mala broth, mala sauces. You get that mouth numbing pepperc corn, get that garlic and ginger. Amazing. [Music] spot is this chai dumpling uh spot, but we’re not getting dumplings, but we’re still getting something chai. Let’s go. So, we have here a dill pork steamed bun. Now, this place called Northern Dumpling King. It actually used to be just up the block in a little hole in the wall spot. You couldn’t even find it from the outside. Now, they’ve graduated to this new spot, their own place. Nice, bright, shiny place. They sold out of the one we really wanted, the trian egg bun, which is fine because we still got this dill pork bun. So, look at that. It’s huge. Just two bucks. The once dill’s in there, the dill just almost overpowers, but I don’t think it’s ever too much dill for me. I love it. You got that pork in there, too. It’s juicy. You can have some chili oil here, too. One of my favorite spots in Flushing for sure. [Music] The Golden Wall. Oh, Golden Mall. That was the place that really got us love in Flushing many years ago. Like over a decade ago, we started coming here and you know, Anthony Bourdain came here. It’s very famous. It was very like old school kind of grimy basement. some of the best food right there. It closed for like four or five years. Now it reopened again as Golden Mall, but it’s totally different now. The original Shian Famous Foods, the famous chain throughout New York of noodles, especially Cumin Lamb noodles right there. So, we’d hit that up and get the fish dumplings, but Shian Famous Food still here. It’s down the block. But the basement, the original location, that was the best. I remember coming in here and like, oh my gosh, I feel I feel lost. Like a lot of people are at least the first time. Then we knew we we got to know the place. It was great. To the uninitiated, if you didn’t know, uh you might not be comfortable with the place, but we were we were we loved it. Some of the best food, best memories. You want to go downstairs? Yeah. Might as well look at it. I got to get it. Oh, it’s so fancy. I remember going in here and it was so pretty. Oh, wow. There’s actually a bathroom that you can use here. Looks like you could actually use that bathroom one before. I didn’t even know if they had a bathroom before. I I didn’t even want to know. This place is nothing like what used to be the golden mall. Um, long time ago. Kind of sad. Yeah. [Music] [Music] This might be the most unique dish you can find at Flushing. It’s a ru jamo. I’m sure I’m butchering that pronunciation, but it’s a crazy mashup. It’s freshly baked flaky flatbread cut open like a sandwich and it’s stuffed with sliced chicken. It’s like al pastor style cuz it’s got a pineapple. There’s cumin seeds. Very interesting. It’s one of the craziest dishes I’ve seen ever in New York. I don’t know about that, but let’s take a bite. Crunchy and flaky. The outside. That’s already incredible texture. You have the sliced chicken inside. Juicy. Lots of cumin flavor. The sweetness from that pineapple. So good. Really, I could eat a few of these in one day. No problem. [Music] [Music] Speaking of how much Chinatown I’m sorry Flushing has changed. We’re heading to this mall. [Music] Yeah. Yeah. [Music] So, we came down the stairs to this gem. Not so hidden. It’s very local favorite. Funway I believe is the name of the place. I think it’s as no frills as it gets. It’s cash only. It’s uh bust your own table. It’s very simple, classic, no frills. The food is great. It’s all you come for. Great food. [Music] Got a couple different names outside. This Han food, they make the best noodles. Look at these. These are my favorite noodles in the whole city. Hand pulled fresh, thick and chewy. Cumin lamb wood mushroom. Look at him behind. Here’s the man behind you. Noodle. You know what? He’s always got a smile on his face. I love this guy. Yeah, he’s like a true professional. This nice guy. He’s been here ever since we come here probably seven, eight years. He’s very nice. Best noodles in town. We love this place. Look at that noodle is made fresh to perfection. The texture here is perfection. Nice and chewy. Thick. Not too thick, but just thick enough. The elasticity, everything. Got all the cumin seeds sprinkled throughout. Little bit of lamb. Not too much, just enough. But you really appreciate the noodles here. That’s the star of the show. This place is by FYI. [Music]
