Switzerland – How People Live in Isolated Mountain Villages | Foroglio Walk Tour 4K
This is Foroglio, a small village hidden deep in the Swiss Alps. ❗Activate subtitles in your language — click on “CC” and select your preferred language! Welcome to one of the most magical hidden villages in Switzerland… Foroglio. It feels like stepping into an old fairytale, but with fresh mountain air. Foroglio isn’t just beautiful; it’s a time capsule. And listen to this: no cars are allowed here. This place belongs to footsteps and stories. And you know what’s even more amazing? There’s no electricity grid here. The few people who stay use solar panels or small turbines powered by water. Imagine evenings by candlelight, like in the old days If you ever visit, bring good shoes and no plans. Foroglio isn’t a place to rush through. It’s a place to… wander. What I love about Foroglio is that, even though it’s so hidden, it attracts people from every corner of the planet. It’s like nature’s own secret meeting place. These rustici date back as early as the 15th century. People lived off goat farming, rye cultivation, and logging, and only stayed here during the summer, in winter, Foroglio lay buried under snow. These stone houses, called rustici, were built by hand, hauling granite blocks up steep rocky slopes. These homes were often built tucked beneath huge boulders or wedged between cliffs, people made the best of every gap in the rock to create shelter Fresh drinking water flows from fountains like this all over Foroglio No matter where you are, take this as a little gift from Foroglio, just for you 😊🌺 If you’re wondering… yes, there’s a restaurant right here in Foroglio. After the walk, you can enjoy a meal with a waterfall view, not bad, right? You’ll find a big parking area down by the main road. From there, it’s just a short walk up to the village. Foroglio might be one of the most Instagram-worthy spots in Switzerland. This church has been standing here since the 15th century, offering shelter and peace to the locals. This place feels like it stepped out of a storybook, or maybe the storybooks were written after seeing places like this. Foroglio is also… the land of lizards. You’ll see them everywhere, sunbathing on the stones. If you take a slow walk, you’ll notice them sneaking around, enjoying the sun just like we do. If you ever dreamed of living in a fairytale village, even just for a weekend… Foroglio makes it possible. And yes, some of these beautiful stone houses can be rented for a few days. Could you imagine yourself sleeping here, far from everything? Peaceful… or a little bit scary? Take a moment… just look at this. Pure power, pure beauty Now we’re getting closer… just a short walk through the forest, and the waterfall will be right in front of us. Stay with me… in a minute, we’ll be standing face to face with the waterfall. This is Foroglio Waterfall , 110 meters of water crashing down straight from the Alps. It’s one of the highest free-falling waterfalls in Switzerland, no dams, no control, just pure wild nature. If you enjoyed this little journey, a like or a subscribe really helps me keep sharing places like this.

Foroglio is located deep in the Bavona Valley, one of Switzerland’s wildest and most pristine valleys in the Italian-speaking region of Ticino.
🚗 By car: Drive from Locarno (about 40 minutes) following the scenic route through Valle Maggia into Bavona Valley.
🚌 By public transport: Take a train to Locarno, then Bus 333 towards Bavona. Note that public transport options are limited — this is truly an off-the-beaten-path gem.

🏡 Stone Houses & Alpine Simplicity
Foroglio is a village built entirely from stone — stone houses, stone roofs, stone streets. Walking here feels like stepping into a living postcard. Flower boxes, wooden balconies, and tiny paths add to the village’s timeless charm.
💦 Foroglio Waterfall — Cascata di Foroglio
One of the main highlights is the stunning waterfall cascading 108 meters right next to the village. The sound of the falling water, combined with the untouched nature around, makes this a place of pure tranquility. Don’t forget your camera!
🌲 Nature, Trails & Pure Air
Whether you’re strolling through the village, walking towards the waterfall, or sitting by the river, Foroglio offers an immersion into nature’s silence and beauty. Ideal for photography, mindfulness, or simply disconnecting from daily life.
🧀 Local Ticino Flavors & Tradition
Nearby rustic grottoes (traditional Swiss-Italian restaurants) serve local specialties like polenta, homemade cheese, cured meats, and chestnut desserts. The simplicity of the dishes reflects the authenticity of the valley.
🎨 Village Life & Heritage
Foroglio is more than a tourist spot; it’s a preserved piece of Swiss mountain heritage. You’ll find artisans, small family-run farms, and a strong connection to the valley’s cultural traditions.
