【北海道グルメ】日本最北端の知る人ぞ知る名物グルメ巡り!!
We are a couple traveling all over Japan. This time we will introduce unique local foods from the northernmost tip of Japan! Hello. This time, we will be looking at Hokkaido’s northernmost gourmet food. In other words, these are local foods from the northernmost part of Japan. We will enjoy local foods around Wakkanai City. We also visited Wakkanai three years ago. But I didn’t have time to enjoy local food. So I want to enjoy it to the fullest this time. First, we arrived at “Sarufutsu Village”, the northernmost village in Japan. I also visited it when I was traveling around Japan. Sarufutsu is famous for its scallops. This is “Sarufutsu Park Roadside Station”. There is a restaurant here called “Sarufutsu Marugotokan”. You can eat scallops here. Last time I visited, it was temporarily closed and I couldn’t eat the scallops. This is a return visit. LOL It’s open today. It’s open! We can eat! I ordered. Scallops. Amazing. Is it alive? Amazing. Apparently you can also grill it over charcoal and eat it. There is a rest area and a barbecue area at the back of the store. You can grill it here. Scallop and crab rice bowl. There’s also salmon roe on it. It’s luxurious. Looks delicious. The other is scallop ramen. It comes with a huge scallop on top. Looks delicious. I’ll enjoy having this. Share and eat. Let’s eat. The soup is very delicious! Scallop broth? Yes. Looks delicious! This is a long-awaited scallop that we couldn’t eat 3 years ago. This is what I wanted to eat. Scallops from Sarufutsu. Yummy! Sweet. The crab is also delicious. Crabs are also famous around here. Is it a hairy crab? Look. Very big. Huge. Delicious! I don’t really like raw scallops, but these are sweet and delicious. Let’s eat ramen. Many people were ordering ramen. This soup is really delicious. The flavor of the soup stock is strong. So good. Hokkaido has a lot of ramen with strong flavors. It’s rare to find ramen with this flavor. Scallop rice bowl. Yummy. Very delicious. Wow! The crab is also delicious. Luxury Rice Bowl. Oh no! That scallop is sweet, isn’t it? Sweet. Delicious. I wanted to eat it 3 years ago too. LOL It was a temporary closure. There was also scallop curry. The curry also looked delicious. There was also a fried scallop set meal. That also looked delicious. If Sarufura comes, you have to eat it. We had the scallops. Thank you for the meal. It was delicious. Scallops are delicious no matter where you eat them in Hokkaido. But these Sarufutsu scallops were exceptional. It was good. There are also direct sales shops nearby. In addition to raw scallops, processed scallops are also sold. The best thing about Sarufutsu Village is the scallops. Next we head towards Wakkanai. We came to Wakkanai. This is near Wakkanai Station. This restaurant is called “Takechan”. It’s a very popular restaurant. Apparently you can eat the famous octopus shabu-shabu here. There was a line even before it opened. When I arrived at opening time, there were already a lot of people lined up. We were seated 50 minutes after opening. I want to eat a lot of seafood. The specialty of Wakkanai is octopus shabu-shabu. There was also octopus shabu-shabu. There were also rice bowls and sushi. Octopus shabu-shabu. Octopus shabu-shabu is 2,200 yen per portion. There are also set meals available. Let’s eat a lot. Octopus shabu-shabu has arrived. Big. It’s so big. This is one portion, but it’s quite a lot. Once it boils, add the vegetables. And dip the octopus 4 to 5 times. The octopus is a little frozen. It’s sesame sauce. That’s surprising. This is it, it’s huge. LOL Giant Octopus. Is Soya a breeding ground for giant octopus? It seems so. Giant octopus is caught at Soya fishing port. It said it had the largest catch in Japan. I’ve never seen a giant octopus before. It’s soft. Go! Giant Pacific Octopus. First octopus shabu-shabu challenge. Oh! Is it okay now? I think that’s enough. This is served with sesame sauce. Wow, that’s amazing. I’ll enjoy having this. My first Pacific octopus. Yummy! This is not the octopus I know. Soft? Yes. So soft and fresh. I guess you can eat it raw normally. Too big. Sesame sauce goes well with. Very delicious. To be honest, I didn’t have high expectations. The octopus shabu-shabu was delicious. Atka mackerel minced cutlet. The first time I saw. Fried octopus. There’s a lot of fried food. Grilled salted button shrimp. Very big. Each one cost about 1000 yen. Button shrimp is a luxury item. It smells really nice. The fried octopus is also delicious. I read that this restaurant is popular with locals too. There are a lot of tourists because the hotel is nearby. I really underestimated octopus shabu-shabu. I thought it was just boiled octopus. LOL It was more delicious than I expected. Everything is delicious. The fishing port is nearby, so the fish is fresh and delicious. There are several restaurants in Wakkanai that serve octopus shabu-shabu. I think this is the most popular restaurant around Wakkanai Station. Wow! There’s eggs in it! It just came out now. Wow, amazing. Contains orange eggs. Wow! How about it? I’ve never really eaten shrimp eggs. Let’s try. Yummy. Very delicious. There was also sashimi. Salt-grilled. Delicious grilled salt. It’s so delicious! I placed an additional order. Miso soup with Ginnansou. Ginnansou is a seaweed that can only be harvested in a limited area from Wakkanai to the Japan Sea side. I’ve never heard of it before, but it seems to be an expensive seaweed. This costs 440 yen. Luxury. I can’t grasp it with chopsticks. Reddish purple color. It’s kind of slippery and hard to grip. It’s crunchy but melty. How does it taste? The flavor is just normal seaweed. Interesting texture. Delicious. Like soft kelp. It’s somewhere between kelp and wakame. Good. The flavor is quite strong. I read that it is highly rare. Seaweed that can only be found in this area. Furthermore, it is harvested during extremely cold seasons. January to March. This is the last dish. Sushi. Special seafood thick roll sushi. It contains a lot of ingredients. What’s in it? Scallops. It also contains crab. Crab, Flying Fish Roe. Salmon, Tuna. Contains shrimp, sweet shrimp. This is amazing scallops. Looks delicious. I’m pretty full already. Wow! There are too many ingredients and they are spilling out. Very delicious. LOL Happiness spread in my mouth. There’s also sea urchin in it. It tasted like sea urchin. It costs 2,640 yen, so each slice costs over 300 yen. But it makes sense because it contains sea urchin. It’s not just sea urchin. This is delicious. Luxury taste. The scallop is too big. It’s sticking out. Very delicious. It feels like eating a mini seafood bowl. I’ve never eaten such a thick roll sushi. Such a luxury. The most delicious sushi roll ever. Very delicious. The best sushi roll I’ve ever eaten. Thank you for the meal. It was delicious. Very satisfied. Everything was delicious. It was a popular restaurant indeed. I chose this restaurant because I wanted to eat octopus shabu-shabu. The octopus shabu-shabu was also more delicious than I expected. It exceeded my expectations. LOL First of all, the slices were really big. And it was very fresh. The sushi was very delicious. The special thick roll I had at the end was especially delicious. It’s like you can taste all the flavor of the seafood bowl in one bite. It also contains sea urchin. There aren’t many thick rolls with sea urchin in them. It was a rich and delicious. It is easily accessible from Wakkanai Station, making it easy for tourists to visit. So the cost might be a little higher. But it was also popular with locals. I think it’s a great place to eat around Wakkanai Station. Very satisfied. Tomorrow we will continue enjoying gourmet food in Wakkanai. I came for lunch. It’s about a 1-minute walk from Wakkanai Station. The shop is called “DINO’S”. The station can be seen. It’s nearby. It feels like a coffee shop. Yes, it’s like a cafe. Here you can eat their famous super-sized dishes. US Army Burger. There used to be a US military base near here, at Cape Noshappu. The restaurant was opened by the previous owner, who used to be a chef there. Wow, so cool. It has entered. I ordered. “Slappy Joe” Hamburger? Hamburger steak? But it said it also contained bread. It’s covered in cheese. There are regular burgers too. The other thing I ordered was Neapolitan. This also looked delicious. They also have pizza and sandwiches. Neapolitan. And Here it comes! Slappy Joe. Very big. Too amazing. How big. It is thick. Amazing. Bigger than the palm of my hand. Wow. I don’t know what’s going on. Lots of cheese. Oh! It’s bread. Maybe a hamburger? Yes, it’s covered in something like meat sauce. Look! Bread came out. Hamburger. The burger is covered in cheese. Lots of cheese. Huge! LOL I’ll try eating it from the edge. All I could eat was bread. LOL I didn’t even get to the meat. Delicious. It’s an incredible amount. LOL Awesome. American taste. Delicious. Cheese is amazing. LOL The bread is so fluffy. It doesn’t taste as heavy as I thought it would. There is also bread on the bottom. It’s a hamburger. Yummy! The taste is not as strong as it looks, so you can probably eat it all. Surprisingly light taste. Easy to eat. Great for cheese lovers. Neapolitan has a traditional taste. The ingredients are big. My favorite flavor. A slightly strong-flavored Neapolitan pasta from a coffee shop. Yummy. Delicious? Yes. Good. I was looking for this flavor. Delicious. Old-fashioned taste. It doesn’t look like a burger anymore. The hamburger is topped with plenty of meat sauce and cheese. Apparently this US military burger is also big. I think a Slappy Joe is a US military burger with cheese on top. Delicious. Thank you for the meal. It was delicious. Slappy Joe isn’t as heavy as it looks. The bread was surprisingly light taste and easy to eat. Soft bread. The taste is not as strong as it looks. It was pretty easy to eat. So, surprisingly, the Neapolitan was stronger in flavor. LOL The Neapolitan was quite rich. LOL The atmosphere of the shop was also good. It feels like an old-fashioned coffee shop. It was an atmosphere I liked. The other ones looked delicious too. The pizza and sandwiches looked delicious too. I would like to come here again if I come to Wakkanai again. It was delicious. “Confectionery Shop Kojika” The next local food is sweets. A long-established confectionery shop in Wakkanai. Confectionery Shop Kojika. I went. I bought 3 kinds of sweets. You might be able to buy it in Sapporo too. These 3. Mochiline. Ryuhyo (Drift ice) manju. Wakkanai condensed milk confectionery. I bought 3 types. This Ryuhyo Manju is probably their most famous product. This Wakkanai condensed milk confectionery was recommended to me by a viewer. This is apparently the second most popular. First, let’s eat the most popular Drift ice manju. All of the products are made using Wakkanai milk. Actually, I drank Wakkanai milk yesterday. It was a bit sweet milk. A little milky feeling. I think it goes well with sweets. This is a drift ice manju. It’s coated with something. It’s coated in white chocolate. It’s inspired by drift ice. Can I eat it? I’ll take a bite. Pure white. Yes, it’s delicious. Is the inside like a sponge cake? Yes. Only the surface is coated. Sweet and delicious. Good. Delicious. It’s inspired by drift ice, as you’d expect from Wakkanai. Wakkanai condensed milk confectionery. What’s the difference? There were plenty more besides these three. There was a wide variety. It said it had cream cheese in it. This is a condensed milk confectionery. Not at all. This has bean paste inside. It is about 3 layers. Delicious. The outside looks like a bun. This is a bun. Somehow this one looks more like a manju. This has a strong cheese flavour. Cream cheese. Tasty. This analogy may be inappropriate, but it is similar to Torimon from Fukuoka. It’s like adding cream cheese to it. That’s right. The texture is similar. But it’s sweeter and more delicious than that. You like Torimon, don’t you? I feel like it’s better not to use other things as examples. LOL Mochiline. This is the only refrigerated product. Wow. That’s a messy way to eat. Cream came out. LOL There is cream around the mouth. There’s cream on your nose too. LOL It’s full of cream. LOL Delicious. It’s a little different from cream puffs. Yummy! The dough is quite chewy. Just as the name suggests. I agree. Delicious. Like a very soft cream puff dough. This one has the most milky taste. This cream is fresh. Since it’s a refrigerated product, you can really taste the milk. You can buy it in Sapporo, but this is the only place where it’s sold separately. It’s the main store. All items were available to purchase individually. It was delicious. There were lots of other sweets too. There were so many varieties I couldn’t count them all. I think it’s a great place to buy souvenirs. It was delicious because it used Wakkanai milk. Next, we came to try Wakkanai’s soul food. Apparently there is a soul food called “Cha-men.” I came to “Ramen Daioh”. This is the original store. There are other menus available. There is also ramen. Cha-men. They had salt and soy sauce so I ordered both. One by one. Here I come! This is Cha-men. This is soy sauce flavor. There seems to be a lot of ingredients in it. And salt flover. Completely different. Let’s compare the taste. Well, it’s what you call yakisoba with ankake sauce. I’ll enjoy having this. It looks like thickened yakisoba noodles. But when I looked into it, it seemed a little different. Soy sauce flavor seems to be the standard. It appears to be served in some restaurants in Wakkanai. I think it was mostly soy sauce flavor. The noodles are a little crispy. It looks like the noodles are stir-fried. It’s not fried but it’s crispy. It has grilled marks. There’s a lot of noodles in it. Delicious. Crispy. Delicious. It’s crispy. Regular ankake yakisoba is made with steamed noodles. This appears to be noodles that have been boiled and then grilled. Well, to put it simply, it’s ankake yakisoba. The salt flavor has a light taste. The soy sauce isn’t that strong either. It looks like it has a strong flavor. It’s not as strong in flavour as it looks. Plenty of ingredients. Squid, pork, vegetables. This is Wakkanai’s soul food. The smell is completely different. That’s light. Completely different. Delicious, light taste. Yes. It’s true that the soy sauce flavor is not strong either. The soy sauce flavor is closer to the standard thickened yakisoba. The salt flavor tastes like Eight Treasures Dish. That’s right. Delicious. Both are delicious. Are there many of them in seaside towns? Ankake yakisoba is also famous in Otaru. Maybe it’s because it doesn’t cool down easily. That’s right. Hokkaido is cold, so there are many dishes that are designed to keep you warm. Hokkaido ramen contains a lot of oil, which keeps it from getting cold. This is the last local food. We have arrived in Toyotomi Town. I came here to eat soft serve ice cream. The shop is called “Ferme”. Apparently it’s quite famous. I would like to try it. Toyotomi Town, just below Wakkanai. This soft serve ice cream is made using milk produced in Toyotomi Town. This is it! Large size. It’s a waffle cone. Huge. It’s heavy. Looks delicious. Amazing. The menu was also extensive. How about it? I was surprised. Very delicious. Rich taste. Super delicious soft serve ice cream. It’s big. Waffle Cone. You could also choose the type of cone. Available in sizes S, M, and L. We’ll share the large size. So good. I’ll try it. Ferme soft serve ice cream. Good! It’s rich taste. The milk flavor is very rich. The milky feel is amazing. Delicious. I can’t even reach the corn. LOL This is a pretty tasty soft serve ice cream. Seico Mart (a famous convenience store chain in Hokkaido) also uses Toyotomi Milk. Good. Delicious. Very delicious. The shakes looked delicious too. There were also snacks made with milk. Like milk ramen. It ranked pretty high. Hokkaido’s soft serve ice cream is amazing. It’s almost always delicious no matter where you eat it. High level! I can eat this soft serve ice cream no matter how full I am. I’m actually full right now but I can still eat. It’s like drinking milk. I’ll definitely want to eat it again if I come to northern Hokkaido. It’s also close to Wakkanai. Apparently it won first place in the 2019 Hokkaido Soft Cream Grand Prix. I understand. LOL It’s number 1 delicious. Very delicious. It was so delicious. When I went to eastern Hokkaido last year, I ate Coop Hamanaka’s Yon Zero soft serve ice cream. I thought that was the best one but it was just as good. That’s exactly right. It was that tasty. It was delicious. It’s quite sweet. The milk flavor was really strong. The store was also very cute and very nice. There was also a lunch menu with items such as milk ramen and milk pasta. And there was a shake too. I would love to visit again if I’m in the area. I definitely want to come. East Hokkaido is Yonzero, and northern Hokkaido is Fermu. It was a really high quality soft serve ice cream. They also sell a lot of sweets. I also bought some souvenirs. I also bought a lot of souvenirs. LOL Milk pie and butter sandwiches. I’ll eat this at home. So, that’s all about the northernmost local cuisine for this time. There was a really wide variety of local dishes. Of course, since it’s close to the sea, there’s seafood too. Dairy farming is also famous, so there were many dishes using milk. This time, we visited a total of 6 stores. Everywhere was delicious. When I visit various cities in Hokkaido, I have some thoughts. Each town has its own specialties and famous products. No matter which city you go to, there’s something delicious. There is something like soul food or a specialty dish. And it’s all delicious. We shoot gourmet videos in various parts of Hokkaido. It’s amazing how every region has its own specialty. They are all really delicious. I know, I’m moved every time. It’s the northernmost point of Japan, so it’s not a place you can visit very often. But if I come back, I want to try some local food. So thank you for watching until the end. Bye bye. Please SUBSCRIBE and NICE to support our journey 🙂
