日本の高山を探索:隠れた「小京都」へのグルメ&旅行ガイド
today I’m spending a day in takayama City gefu prefecture in the last video I explored gefu City in gefu prefecture but today I’m diving a little bit deeper into gefu area and going a little bit more in the countryside in an area that’s tucked into the mountains and known for preserving their local tradition I cannot wait to show you all about this beautiful city of takayama and the wonderful food that they have here do we oppose should I I think I’m just going to bite into his head before we go don’t don’t forget to subscribe for more Japan adventures and hit that notification Bell while you’re at it let’s [Music] go takayama is a city at the base of the Japan Alps located in the hia region of gefu which is also why it’s often referred to as hia takayama to differentiate it from other cities of the same name in the winter it’s a great place to enjoy Alpine Adventures but of course it’s beautiful to visit all year long today it’s known for keeping its many Traditions alive like its famous annual festivals and their preserved historic neighborhood first I’ve been traveling all morning from gifu City to get to Takaya to get here just in time for a little something unique about the culture here that’s only open in the morning I am here now at the miyagawa morning Market or the miyagawa asaii in Japanese this particular asichi Morning Market has existed officially since the Edo period which was more than a hundred years ago so it has a really long history and they’re open every single day rain or shine as you can see from 7:00 a.m. till noon so I’ve actually never been to a morning Market before CU I’m not a morning person so this is a special day let’s go see what they got come on oh it looks like they have some cute little trinkets here I’m gonna get one of these I think oh my gosh that was so nice she let me just have it as a souvenir people here are so nice oh my goodness I have just come across a cafe stand here at the morning market so I think this is a little bit unusual and I feel like I need a little pickme up this morning so why don’t we go and get a coffee for how all right so we have to drink it really quickly because it’s a cookie cup I love the adorable cat here we go what I like personally is a little hint of the sugar on the inside of the cup sort of seems to influence the flavor I like like a slightly sweet coffee so it is just perfect for [Music] me woo a peach [Music] stand I think these two look really nice and red so the redder they are the sweeter they are I got my peaches the rain is really coming down now but there are still a few stands open even though it’s getting close to noon that this region is really well known for their produce so it’s definitely a must try and that particular shop they change their fruits with the seasons right now it’s the peach season cannot wait to try these later on but let’s keep on exploring because it is getting a a little rainy and a lot of the shops are starting to close down so let’s go explore the rest of [Music] teama this is my next stop of the day it’s a little modern yet kind of traditional style Japanese Cafe known as a kissat and it’s called K the name is quite interesting because from my understanding Kut means the past and kiso according to its website is Zen terminology which means would you like to have some tea and apparently the goal of the cafe is to be a place for people to relax and see the passings by and the goings on of the town so I’d love to check it out and see what kind of traditional and unique Cafe Goods they have well it’s very peaceful in here it really feels like a traditional Japanese house let’s go check out the upstairs this is so cool the steps are so steep like a ladder so it feels like I’m going into a treehouse it is so cozy Coy and peaceful up here traditional yet blend of modern oh and there’s little seats over here too oh this is great and I love that you can peek out this window at this table you can see the rafters and you can even look downstairs at the cafe below this is so cool I can’t wait to enjoy some tea and sweets right up here for [Music] [Music] and now I’m super excited to try my desserts for today and the matcha tea this looks beautiful as well maybe I should start with the MAA tea M ooh it almost has a little kick at the end that feels a little bit like a hint of salt they don’t put salt in it that’s just the flavor I’m getting from the Macha tea in this particular variety the reason why green tea is unsweetened in Japan is because you’re going to eat it with very sweet Japanese desserts so the balance is very important I’m going to see how this tastes so this one here is a soda jelly it’s not actually ice it’s very creative this looks so good okay it really looks like a fresh shovel full of snow M the jelly uh it doesn’t taste like soda it’s just a light or almost flavorless jelly that gives a little bit of a texture it’s very good just like a vanilla parfait oh there’s the amazake looks so good okay let’s give it a taste m the amazake has if you’ve never tried it before it’s very tasty it’s got this creamy sweetness that compliments the vanilla ice cream very nicely ooh I love it and what’s more is I think the salty rice cracker is going to go really well with the sweet ice [Music] cream I am here now on S Maori which is a historic Merchant District here in takayama all of the buildings here as you can see have been preserved to look just as they did in the Edo period so it’s a really great place to kind of slip back in time and even today you can find a variety of goods on the street from of course local crafts to delicious foods but especially I’ve heard a lot about the delicious food so today I’m going to take a walk around and see what kind of tasty treats I can find this one I feel I kind of want to check out what this Shop sells oh okay they’ve got some ice cream it’s the sadu bubble it seems to be a popular treat here in this city sadu bubble IU here we are I’ve got my S bubble ice cream and I got the chocolate one which is made with h milk of course milk from the hea brand beef cows in this region wow that looks very detailed all right this is actually almost too cute to eat do we do we oppose should I I think I’m just going to bite into his head here we go e sorry s of bubbl the texture is not like ice cream at all I was not expecting that but the chocolate is really rich very tasty why is it jelly I don’t know I don’t know why oh this looks really nice these are little signs for their menu items they have a local H beer I would love to try their local craft beer and also they have a lot of H beef which is the local brand of wagu beef that they have in this area last week in our previous gefu video we were talking all about IOU or the sweet fish which but here you definitely are going to need to try Vita wagu beef so let’s give one of these a try with a local beer so I get to have a little taste of the brand beef hiu it is perfectly salted and peppered I could definitely eat a bunch of these actually one is not enough and I think really good wagyu beef is going to go well with the local hea beer as well come by and I say it can’t go wrong with uh with beef let me know in the comments below if you think this is the best combo I think it is just a little ways down from the sori street there is a shop here called kotei and they’re known for selling beef sushi in particular K wagu beef Sushi the sushi that they have available is medium rare cooked beef on Rice so if you’re worried about raw beef don’t worry it will be medium rare all right they have a little bench here that you can use to enjoy your sushi so this is a shrimp SBE or shrimp rice cracker that they’re using as a serving plate the first one is is a beef sushi medium rare they blow torched it so it’s seasoned with salt and pepper let’s give that a try M very tasty salt and pepper is just a simple seasoning to bring out all of the best flavors of the beef so I’m going to finish up my Sushi enjoy my shrimp cracker plate and then I have one other place to wrap up this area for a little sit down meal so I’ll see you guys over there well I’ve had a number of delicious bites but it’s time for me to have a little sitdown dinner here at kitchen Heda this is a restaurant that has a 50-year history they’re particularly known for their Heda beef dishes and for using a lot of local ingredients so I’m very curious to see what this tastes like let’s go inside and have a sit down fancy hea beef dish let’s go what a beautiful seat in the restaurant it’s got a beautiful backdrop lovely it feels so peaceful and a little bit retro oh look at this gorgeous leatherbound menu so of course they’re known for their hea beef steak oh and of course everything A5 grade that’s the best if you want the best of the best you’re going to want A5 so we’re going to splurge and go with A5 today I’m also going to try the sauteed pork because they use heat up pork as well so best to try some of the local ingredients all right this looks fantastic so let’s start with the H beef he said it’s seasoned with salt and pepper as it is so to try it as is first it cuts through so beautifully o and it’s a perfect medium rare it looks like it’s on a bed of onions and it seems to have a little bit of the caramelized onion fragrance in addition to this like juicy meat so yeah I’m can’t wait to see how it influences The [Music] Taste m m incredibly flavorful way more so than I was expecting of course wagu beef is always delicious and juicy also I feel like I can taste some of those onions the caramelized onions which adds to kind of an overall sweetness you don’t even need the steak sauce but he did make me some steak sauce so I might as well see how that taste too let’s give it a taste m it actually has a variety of flavors and what’s kind of stunning out to me is a little bit of acidity in the steak sauce the sauce is so flavorful I would probably eat it on its own maybe like I would pour it over rice it would be delicious now it’s time to try the H pork he mentioned that it’s been lightly breaded and it looks like he’s seared it really well so the the breaded bits look kind of crispy and delicious and it’s a really thick cut of pork M okay I’m excited let’s give it a taste all right here we go it’s got just the right amount of oiliness on the outside to just give it some like Umami and juiciness it is so good I wouldn’t add any sauce to it either I think it’s perfect as it is also the lettuce is locally Source they pick they try to get as many ingredients from local farmers as they can so yeah this is a great place to check out if you really want to try some local K or takayama Foods well I’m going to continue enjoying my meal so see you guys outside for a last bit of takayama scenery come by dinner was lovely and I’m back outside on the streets and it is remarkably quiet and if you like visiting areas that have that really kind of traditional Japanese quality this is the place for you I think this is the Hidden Gem that you need to come to before people get too Savvy about it I hope you guys enjoyed following along with me on this little takayama city Adventure today and if you want to go on your own adventure here as well we actually have some fun guided tours to offer for you so if you’d like to try one of those the next time you’re in town scan the QR code it’ll be down below and we have a variety of Tours located in takayama city and just in the hea region that are definitely worth checking out and make sure to stay tuned for the last installment in this gefu series because I’m going to be headed to one last very special place in gefu that is also a world heritage site so if you have any guesses what that might be make sure to leave a comment down below and we’ll see if any of you get it right anyway if you enjoyed this video please make sure to Next stop, Shirakawago ❤
I love seeing you visit places like these. Out of curiousity, how do they manage the challenges of the declining population? Do they have special programs to attract people?
Another great video! Thanks 👍
Will visit in a few weeks.
Hello, can I buy advertising from you, or offer cooperation?
Another great shizuka vlog !
Rain is Japan is always cool. Thanks for getting up early Shi, and thanks Japan by Food team!🍻
Will you be my tour guide, Shizuka? ❤
👍
Amazing! Loved it
That area is beautiful!
And the folks seem really nice.
Another great episode!
Awesome how some of the shops stay open in the rain, and those peaches look immaculate, I do need to try the Hida Beef, Beer and Beef is a hard combo to beat!
Shirakawa-go next?
Shirakawa-go!
If you're visiting the morning market, make sure to grab some owaratamaten to snack on too! Light and fluffy, eggy, marshmallowy goodness!
Great episode!
Love Shizuka!!
Very nice and entertaining video!
Having visited the wonderful Takayama, but not being a real foodie myself, it was very interesting to see the “culinary” side of it!
It amazes me to see many historical little shops that have been there for generations!
Takayama is an incredible city. Thank you for making this video!
Wow the preview of the next video looks absolutely stunning. Can't wait. Great job on this video too!
@6:28 yes please!!!!! And yes skewers and beer 100% shiz!!!!!! 😊👍🏻
No other channel releases such consistently high-quality content. よく出来ました!
You're my babe forever
Love Japan, I've been to Takayama and Shirakawago and they're very beautiful. I will be visiting Japan again in 2025 Feb.
Good Day Shizzy. Always so nice to see your smiling face. You are delightful.🥀
I really like the dark wood feel of the historic neighborhood! It looks like pine pitch painted wood – which does a really nice job in preserving wood for a long time. That cafe has quite the vibe – perfect to drop into, particularly on a rainy day, or during the winter! Classy restaurant! Thank you Shizuka and crew for showing us Hida Takayama! Love from Canada!
My wife and I visited this area back in 2010 or so and we had the same Hida beef sushi Shizuka had! There is a kimono shop on this town that has been in business for almost 150 years and of course we rented kimonos for the whole day!
We are going here next year 🙌
people in japan are so civilized, unlike in my country philippines
What a beautiful place. All of the people Shizuka met are incredible craftspeople. Amazing. Keep eating and drinking Shizuka – we love it!
Was there a few weeks ago during Autumn matsuri. EVERY place sells hida beef sushi or skewers. It felt like 50% of the restaurants sold that.
Ta
Beautiful place and all foods look so delicious
If the videos could include some simple Japanese subtitles (for eg when Shizuka/locals speak Japanese), that would be really cool. Would be a good way for viewers to better follow along and pick up some Japanese for those interested in the language.
I looooove your dress! Where can I get one?
You've instantly made me so hungry! Amazing reviews
OMG… I can never find those peaches in the states. Peaches in Japan are actually in peach color. But that steak looks so raw and torched, not medium rare, lol. Not sure why I am salivating inside.
What a beautiful little town, beautiful and friendly people, tasty looking food! And of course our very pleasant tour guide Ms Shizuka!🙃
Cool vlog! Thanks! Fyi.
The adorable lady with her handmade crafts! 🥺I'm going to have to stop by her stand now when I visit Takayama next! 💗
It’s jelloie because of the agar
Just visited Kitchen HIDA earlier this year. It is hidden a bit on a side street. Looks like the next place will be Shirakawago.
if there would be a live action Ranma 1/2 she would make a great Ukyo
I can't wait to see Takayama in person. It's my 4th visit in Japan and I would spend some time in Takayama.
Love the video! Can you tell me the name of the store where you got the sarubobo ice cream? And would you say a 2 night stay is enough to experience Takayama? ^^ Currently planning my next trip to Japan and want to visit the Nagano and Gifu regions before going to Okinawa <3
Watching these videos is making my stomach growl… 😫
Here in Takayama now at the morning market! Was looking for the coffee guy but he isn’t here 😢
I went to Takayama for two days last week, the open restaurant at night from 7pm onwards cannot accommodate the influx of tourists. As in no option at all but kombini. It's a boring city also.
