Kamimizo Summer Festival, Sagamihara, Tradition & Energy | Japan Walking Tour 【4K UHD】

Walking through the Kamimizo Summer Festival in Kanagawa Current location: Shinjuku, Tokyo This is Yabe Station on the Yokohama Line, located in Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. This time, I will be going to photograph a festival taking place near Kamimizo Station. Your subscription is the beginning of a journey. Let’s go to a new view. The area around Kamimizo is an isolated island, so it’s difficult to get to. It would probably be better to head south on the Sagami Line from Hashimoto, but I decided to head from Yabe Station. I arrived at Route 16. I was pretty sweaty. I should have taken the train from Hashimoto. Even though it’s Sunday, the roads are empty. That’s rare. In crowded places you end up only taking photos of people’s backs. Kamimizo Summer Festival is the largest festival in northern Kanagawa Prefecture, and is held to worship Gozu Tenno, the deity who prays for bountiful harvests and safety in the home. The event will be held on the weekend and is expected to attract a total of 350,000 visitors. It has been going on for over 200 years since the end of the Edo period. Indian restaurants are also opening stalls. It’s a good time to make money. I wonder if they are carrying portable shrines in the old village divisions. When I was a kid, I hated having to carry the mikoshi (portable shrine) at our local village festival. The format is roughly the same, and the production company is probably the same too. There are lots of street vendors. Festivals have always been run by people in the know. It’s a tacit understanding. That’s all for today. Thank you for watching. Your subscription will help me to take on the next journey. Likes will also help support me.

As I got off the train and started walking from Yabe Station, the outline of the town slowly emerged. The roads were filled with the scent of life, and I was soon led to a bustling area. Kamimizo’s summer festival has a history of over 200 years, and a portable shrine dedicated to Gozu Tenno is paraded through the town. The scene was filled with the prayers and passion of the people. The scent wafting from the food stalls, the sound of drums echoing from afar, and the flow of people filling the streets – the more I walked, the more I felt that this festival was a part of the faith and life rooted in the land. Even as I followed the people’s backs in the crowded streets, if I suddenly looked up at the sky, the soul of the festival that has been passed down through time emerged. The video captures the heartbeat of each step, and even from a faraway place, it will gently convey the breath of prayer.
