【🇯🇵信州・松本旅】美食と古書と名建築、“上質”が詰まった町をめぐる旅|長野観光
“Yes, we have arrived in Matsumoto.” “In front of Matsumoto Station.” “The town of Matsumoto. It’s so pretty.” (Retro modern) We crossed the Metoba River and came to the old house book cafe we were looking for, but unfortunately it was closed. We’ll come again! Wait for me . Anyway, first we head to the National Treasure “Former Kaichi School”, one of Japan’s oldest elementary schools. It has very modern architecture, and although it is a school that represents the Meiji Restoration, many sculptures from abandoned temples have also been repurposed. This classroom style also began around this time. These are textbooks from that time! They have character. “Oh, there are some notes written on them.” “Math.” “Cute.” “Hehe… lovely.” The softness of the old paper is also soothing. There were various exhibits in each of the 12 classrooms. At the very back of the second floor is… a large auditorium and testing center. It has a church-like atmosphere. An amazing 2,500 pieces of expensive imported stained glass were used in the school building. There were also many piano and organ exhibits. The Western lantern sculptures were really stylish! Under the blue sky, this is a national treasure that has carried the dreams of many people. Oh, I found a book cafe. I was drawn in and entered. “I like it, this way.” “Amazing!” (I couldn’t help but smile, it has a great atmosphere). Books of all genres , including literature, history, and travel magazines, are piled up everywhere. This corner seat is so nice…! The owner must be a movie buff. I feel like I’m playing in a treasure trove (sorry for wandering around). Of course, you can read books freely. Let’s immerse ourselves in books . There is also a wide selection of whiskeys, which the owner loves, as well as picture books for children . The owner is also a fan of jazz, and the background music in the store is stylish jazz. Wow, the stained glass doors are beautiful too…! I’ve been dreaming about this spot forever. I chat with a regular customer and say, “Itadakimasu.” All of the coffee used is specialty (high-quality beans that meet international standards). “Delicious.” I was lucky to come across such a deep cafe. [Soundo] It was named to represent the feelings of humans who pursue knowledge that is as elusive as a cloud . “What is this street…?” It’s lunchtime and the drinking district is still deserted. Here, I find my lunch of choice: a set meal where I can taste the “Shinshu Salmon” that I absolutely wanted to eat. A two-minute walk from Matsumoto Station, the handmade soba izakaya “Warikan” A relaxing restaurant surrounded by the warmth of wood The tea is delicious and I take a break ~ Warikan set meal 1,000 yen This is it, I wanted to eat this dark, glossy salmon “Mmm, it’s delicious” “Then me too” “Oh, as is…?” “I want to try it, hehe” “Delicious, delicious” “Okay, that’s not it” “What?” “(Farmed salmon) has a strong fishy taste.” The boiled pork was also excellent, with juicy meat that could be cut with chopsticks. “Peanuts” The boiled peanuts were also delicious. Very satisfied, thank you! I highly recommend this set meal. Thank you for the meal . Matsumoto City Museum of Art The highlight is the collection of Yayoi Kusama, a world-famous artist from Matsumoto. It’s a shame that photography of Toulouse-Lautrec is prohibited in the special exhibition … (Of course) “The Place Where the Soul Lies” is so cool…! The collection exhibition was fun! Bright art born from a painful view of life and death…she is a truly strong person”She doesn’t look like she’s in her 90s””Not at all” “Family…?””Why family?” Toulouse-Lautrec, one of France’s most famous painters of the 19th centuryThis exquisite orange is an antique~ “Eco bag””I think so” We were kids and never bought an eco bag at an art museum, so we weren’t really familiar with paintings, but Kusama’s spatial art was truly amazingSo , I took a short walk along the river in the eveningThe warm sunset, happiness~ lazing around by the river looks so pleasantThe city of Matsumoto has an elegant retro feelIt is neat and tidy while still retaining its oldness. We arrived at Nakamachi Street, where white-walled storehouses line the streets like in an anime. The plaster-painted buildings can withstand a major fire, and there are many historic specialty shops. Most of the stores had closed by 6 p.m., but the restaurants were just about to open their noren curtains. It felt like a scene from a drama, so I kept taking pictures. “For two, please.” The contrast between black and white in the storehouse town is really beautiful. There is also an inn that used to be a travelling merchant’s lodging, and the shopping street sleeps, and the sun sets . I felt relaxed after walking around the town. We headed home, too . It was time for some gourmet food. Soba Izakaya “Kura no Mukou” is a one-minute walk from Matsumoto Station. It is a popular izakaya where you can taste Shinshu’s local cuisine. “For two, right? Please come to the seats on the second floor, at the end of the road, on the right, on the second floor. ” “New customers for two.” “Welcome.” The seats are in a very spacious tatami room. The interior of the restaurant is purely Japanese architecture, and they are particular about Shinshu sake and ingredients. Domestic horse sashimi, 1,800 yen. “I’ll try this then.” “It’s already got some salt on it, so it looks like you wrap it in this (horse oil) and eat it.” “Well, I ‘ll have a little too…” “Okay, let’s eat.” “Mm! It’s so good , so tasty. ” “You ate it as is?!” “Yeah, I did! It’s better than butter. ” “Really. Really really.” “Oh, it really does taste like butter. ” Tony, who eats it as is, laughs: “Mmm! (Delicious~).” “Garlic and ginger. ” “Wasabi…?” “?” “No, it’s okay, it’s okay, just kidding. ” “Then let’s eat it as is…” “As is… (Again? lol)” “Yeah, it’s a bit tasteless as is.” “Yeah…” (Tony is in agony) “Delicious!” “That’s great.” “Delicious, delicious.” ” I’m so happy.” “Yeah, it’s delicious.” Shinshu Gibier Tsukesoba (Hot) 1,400 yenShinshu Soba Taste Comparison (Cold) 900 yen . Now let’s eat a lot . “It’s so delicious!” We compared the taste of “coarsely ground thin soba” and “country-ground black thick soba” . We ate the black thick soba with sesame seeds and salt. The horse sashimi had no odor and was elegantly tasty. The soba was also very fragrant and delicious! 思い出しました。 English : It was a fantastic dinner, thank you for the meal ^^ On the second day, we will be savoring Matsumoto to the fullest. By the way, Matsumoto’s spring water is one of the country’s famous springs, and you are free to draw water. “Matsumoto City Museum” “Ah, it’s the cafe if you go in this way.” “Wow, a rest area.” (Guide?) “Ah, let’s take a break while looking at the temari balls .” “Hello!” The entrance hall is equipped with a monument to temari balls, a traditional Matsumoto craft, and an LED screen . “Well, we’ve been to a lot of places already.” “Yes, we have.” “Where did we go?” “Kaichi School.” “Art Museum.” “We’re here now.” “And Matsumoto Castle (coming soon).” “Yes.” The museum is brand new and will be relocated and reopened in 2023. The open atrium space up to the second floor is very open and a bright relaxation space for local residents and tourists. We headed to the permanent exhibition room! The huge diorama we were looking forward to : “Wow,” “They were lined up so beautifully,” ” It’s a castle town,” “It’s a castle town,” the largest castle town diorama in Japan, very impressive, “Hey, the first one to hit three targets is the best archer in town,” ” Hey, gentlemen, are you on a trip? We’ll soon see the castle tower, ” “Your sake was really good,” “I know, it’s brewed with spring water from Matsumoto,” Matsumoto has developed as a strategic point where major roads intersect and a logistics base since ancient times, and the grounds of Matsumoto Castle are indeed vast! The castle tower was protected by three moats to prevent enemy firearms from reaching it, and the exhibits on “the daily life of the samurai” were interesting (their job was more like being a home security guard, I guess, lol). Now, the festival begins! This is another gigantic treasure ship of the Seven Lucky Gods. It is a decoration for “Ame-ichi”, a New Year’s event in Matsumoto that has been held since the Edo period. This gorgeous treasure ship is 4m high and really brings prosperity to the town. The museum has a collection of about 100,000 items, including donations from local residents. It’s great to learn about the history of the town. It seems that starting your tour of Matsumoto with a visit to the museum is a recommended course ^^ For lunch, we went to a local Chinese restaurant that is famous for its slightly unconventional Matsumoto cuisine. It seems that they often appear in the media, and they even appeared on “Sekakuna Gourmet” which we often watch! 場です。 English: “Hello~” “Yes, for two people ” “Please go to the tatami room in the back” “Thank you” “It’s old-fashioned and has a nice feel to it. The interior has a great atmosphere” “You can feel the era” “Really” But the interesting thing is that it’s Chinese… “Tatami mats” “That’s right” Founded in Matsumoto 50 years ago, it seems to have many fans from far away “It’s apparently a really popular menu item, did you know?” “What’s this” “Ming Ha Kin” “Hmm” “Shrimp spring rolls” “Ah” “Maybe lol” (Apparently it’s a rare dim sum dish) “For now… this, bandit fried rice!” A large serving like a boat has arrived lol Bandit fried rice ¥1,200 (large serving + ¥200) A luxurious dish that combines Matsumoto’s specialty “bandit yaki” with Cantonese fried rice♪ No.1 popular menu item Ming Shrimp Roll ¥250Dip it in mayonnaise and saltIt’s like a spring roll version of shrimp shumaiJust as you’d expect from a well-known local Chinese restaurant , the fried rice is deliciousThe bandit yaki is crispy until the very end and very satisfying! It was added to the menu because they wanted people to taste local specialties. We’re full, full, thank you for the meal ~ “Excuse me,” “Bye-bye.” Now, the climax is at the national treasure Matsumoto Castle , one of Japan’s five most famous castles, where we go to see its tallest castle tower. Also known as the jet-black “Crow Castle,” the Honmaru Palace and Ninomaru were burned down, but the castle tower was spared. It is said that it was only thanks to God that Matsumoto Castle, which has suffered numerous major fires, was spared . Matsumoto Castle won first place in the “2024 Japanese Castle Ranking by Castle Fans”! Don’t miss the magnificent stone walls made from huge natural rocksKazu discovers something: “The pigeons are lovey-dovey.” “Oh, it’s true!” ” Oh, oh, oh,” “Wow ,” “It’s true, it’s true (excited).” Matsumoto Castle is now peaceful, and there are many foreign tourists tooWe’ve finally reached the Kuromon gate at the entranceWe’re looking forward to it~♪ Wow, it’s already thereWe walk gracefully down the path that leads to the castle towerIt’s brave and beautiful… it’s easy to see why it’s ranked number oneIt seems rare for the Tsukimi Tower and small castle tower to be integrated like in Matsumoto Castle’s castle towerI also want to take a photo with the ninjas and samurai, but I don’t want to get in front of the kids…lolFinally ! We’ve entered the castle towerOne thing to be careful of at Matsumoto Castle is that the stairs are really steep…! We bumped shoulders into each other as we passed each other, and be careful of the overhead objects. Everyone was panting. The wind was blowing hard and it was cold. “It seems the second floor was a storehouse.” Oh, it’s a “stone drop” to repel climbing enemies. A “slit” for firing guns and arrows. Matsumoto Castle was never actually attacked, and only this beautiful view remains. It was an excellent defensive structure that was designed with the gunfights of the Warring States period in mind. They were talking enthusiastically and seemed to be having fun. Of all the existing castle towers, it is the second tallest (30m). The view from the tower also started to look like a diorama. lol. The black lacquer is really cool, after all. Ah , the armored warriors! When I pointed my camera at them, they struck some cool poses. They were very welcoming – for some reason the foot soldier joined in to watch. lol. Their Japanese attire was just as cool as the warriors’….! Maybe they were father and son? Matsumoto Castle has hidden strength, never fighting or burning, and has stood majestically through the ages. Watched over by the Northern Alps, it is a national treasure beloved by the people. Thank you for watching until the day we meet again!
