Walking around Machida, going back and forth between Tokyo and Kanagawa Current location: Machida, Tokyo Now let’s move on to the next location We head for the temple just beyond the Sakai River. Your subscription is the beginning of a journey. Let’s go to a new view. This is a railroad crossing on the Yokohama Line. A straight 13km track runs from Machida Station to Hashimoto Station. This is Sakaigawa River. I heard that Aoyama Gakuin University’s ekiden runners often run here. This is the border between Tokyo and Kanagawa. The opposite bank is Kanagawa Prefecture. The river has been straightened, so in some places Kanagawa and Tokyo are mixed due to the old riverbed. It’s better if the address is in Tokyo. It’s in Unomori Danchi. It’s about 60 years old. If you google it, you’ll see that one room is listed for sale at 16.8 million yen. Of course, it’s Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. The place name U-no-mori comes from the fact that this area used to be a woodland where cormorants lived. Machida Station is about a 15-minute walk away. If someone asked me where I live, I’d probably answer Machida. Even though I live in Sagamihara. It’s a terrace cliff. Both banks of the Sakai River on the Machida side are terraced. It is said that the ancient Sagami River flowed through this area, so it may have been formed by the Sagami River. The erosion has progressed quite a bit. I wonder if this area wasn’t developed, even though it’s close to the station. Perhaps it was for the landowner’s convenience. This is Koenji Temple, founded in 1533. It is said that when Odawara Castle fell, a retainer of the Hojo clan who fled to this temple buried a large amount of coins. Buried coins. They must have been worth a lot of money back then. I wish they were buried gold. There is a torii gate Aigyo Inari Golden Daimyojin The temple is also Nichiren sect. 6 Jizo. One statue with a strange design This narrow road must be an old one. A mansion with a storehouse. He must be a big landowner. We have arrived at Hie Shrine. Apparently the young men of the village were competing in strength contests using the Chikaraishi. Around the Edo period The mansion next door is on a larger lot. It turns out they might even have the same landowner. That’s all for today. Thank you for watching.
