Our Epic Day: Mountains, Lake Views, Pizza & Cafe Chill!
Good morning! I love starting the day with a refreshing drip coffee. We’re heading back to the admin building to return our bungalow keys. Besides returning keys, we’re checking the route. First, the road goes downhill. Don’t forget to use sunscreen. The Japanese summer sun is quite dangerous. It’s getting harder to ride, so an uphill awaits us. The climb was long. But a short break with a beautiful view awaited us. A view of the Okutama mountains. We rode along the opposite bank yesterday. Did you see that sign? Many fatalities! Be careful! Just like that. We haven’t finished the climb yet, but in some places, it got much easier to ride. Sign: Route with frequent fatal accidents. imperceptibly, the climb turned into a descent. The descent was very long, so we decided to stop and have a snack. Great view of the greenery and river. We tried two pizzas. And the best ginger ale of my life! About half the descent is still ahead. The roadside is covered with wisteria petals. After descending, we took a break at the nearest convenience store. Next, it was time to go home. We decided not to ride straight through the city. So we deviated from our planned route. We got lost. Should I build a route to Tama? Well-l-l… It’s generally clear there. We’ll just get back to the road we turned from. Google Maps led us uphill, so we decided to turn back. The return journey mostly followed the Tama River, which I already showed in another video. And even though the screen shows 88.4 km, we actually rode almost 105. Thanks for watching! Subscribe, give a thumbs up, and hit the bell icon. And until new adventures in Japan!
Ready for more of Okutama? Part 2 of our cycling journey kicks off after our night camping by Lake Okutama. This video features an unforgettable climb to an observation deck (reaching 1,147 meters around the 10km mark!) for stunning lake views, followed by a well-earned feast of local pizza and a relaxing break at a cafe in Hinohara. Experience the thrill of the ascent and the delicious rewards that follow!
IMPORTANT: Most of this video has no voiceover, but you can always turn on subtitles for full understanding and additional explanations.
