Staying at a Shiba Inu Inn in a 130-Year-Old Japanese House. | Shimane, Japan. | “Asari House”

A private inn with two adorable, fluffy Shiba Inu dogs. We took walks together and relaxed side by side. At night, they even slept beside me. Please enjoy these two heartwarming days with us. Hi! I’ve just arrived at Izumoshi Station in Shimane. Izumo is about an hour and a half flight from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. There aren’t many trains to the inn, so I rented a car. Alright, let’s go! Wow… This Sanin Blue sky is stunning. This place is about five minutes by car from the inn. There was only one convenience store near the inn, so I’m here to grab some food. Seasoned rice. Some bread. Let’s make this my breakfast. And this too. Dessert. Craft cola. Blueberries. This one’s got me curious. 😳 Here’s everything I got. I’m so happy I could find so many delicious local treats! Oh, a windmill! Maybe it’s for wind power? Asari Station. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the inn. It’s such a quiet area—seems like there aren’t many trains. We’ve arrived at the inn. It’s a 130-year-old traditional house where you can stay with Shiba dogs. So cute!! Hello there! 😊🐶 Let’s go inside. I’m looking forward to spending time with you! Are you really this happy to see me? Thank you! ☺️ I’m super excited too. Alright, time to check in. Oops, is this a security check? All good? ☺️ Egami-san, the owner, kindly told me about their personalities and how to interact with them. The brown one is the older brother, Merlot. The white one is the younger brother, Pinot Noir. These two Shiba Inus are beloved members of the owner’s family. Here’s a bit about them and the inn. Merlot-kun is a bit tsundere and acts like the boss. 🐶 That’s a common personality in Mameshiba, apparently. Pinot Noir-kun is more of a spoiled sweetheart. 🐶 There’s a little jar of treats you’re allowed to give them during your stay. They come running when they hear the lid open! Break one in half before giving it to them. Good boy! Behind the noren curtain is the owner’s private space. The dogs freely go back and forth between the living room and the owner’s area. Let’s check out today’s room. Hmm? We’re heading to the room, you know. Usually this gate is kept closed, but you can leave it open if you’re spending time with the dogs in your room. They’ll come and go freely whenever they like. Pino-kun, will you come with me? The bedroom. You’re checking it out for me first? ☺️ Thank you. The bedding is for summer—it looks nice and cool. I’ll leave it open a little so the dogs can come through. What’s over here? Looks like this is one of Pino-kun’s favorite spots. Can we take a look together? Oh, you can see the garden from here. This inn only accepts one group per day. The stay starts from 8,087 yen per person (price may vary by season and day). I’m happy to see it’s a flush toilet! Oh, there’s another space over there. A shared space with a TV—meals are allowed here too. And here’s the kitchen. It’s the original old-style kitchen! 😳 The kitchen is stocked with cookware, seasonings, and dishes. Let’s check out the second floor. Dormitory room. This space can be used for larger groups, I heard. This house used to belong to a family that ran a tile business. Pino-kun, you waited for me? Wanna play? Catch me if you can! 😆 He’s leading me to the big room, isn’t he? Time for treats. Thank you for joining me on the room tour. Oh, Mer-kun’s here too. Let me get one more. Here you go, Mer-kun. Thank you, Pino-kun. Okay, one more. Here you go. Let’s start by bonding over some treats. …Did it work? So fluffy, with such a beautiful coat. The breeze feels so nice. Mer-kun, your smile is the cutest!!! This porch feels amazing. Mer-kun has returned to the back. Both dogs are very friendly and incredibly calm. It’s shedding season, so I got to experience something really special. It’s a bit early, but let’s head to a nearby place for dinner. The restaurant closes at 5:30 PM, so I rushed over. They still had set meals left. Glad I made it! Loquat soda. “Kaze no Engawa” set meal – 1,430 yen. Everything was so gentle in flavor and delicious. Thank you for the meal. I’m back! ☺️ Mer-kun really is a tsundere. Hi, Pino-kun. I’m back. Thanks for waiting. Another warm welcome! He gave me his paw. Amazing. Here you go. You too, Mer-kun. Here you go. So soft and fluffy—too cute. After some treats and a massage, he headed back. I heard Pino-kun licking me like this is his way of showing love. Thank you. So relaxed… even showing your belly? You’re just too adorable. This engawa is so peaceful and nice. Pino-kun. Snacks later, okay? You really are such a sweet boy. It’s time for an evening walk. We’re heading to a seaside park by car. Getting a quick lesson on how to use the leash. A seaside walk—how fun! I got to try walking him too. You’re so fast, Mer-kun! Time for a little break. Mer-kun and the sunset. Are you having fun, Mer-kun? That’s the end of our walk. The Sea of Japan sunset is just stunning. It really moved me. Thank you for walking with me. Let me open the door. Time to get those paws wiped. He looks so pleased. You too, Pino-kun. It’s dinner time for both of them now. I’ll have my snack time too. Craft cola. I cut my finger on the bottle cap. 🥹 👍👍 This cream puff was delicious. I heard a sound and turned around— Pino-kun. You finished your dinner already? Looks like Pino-kun wants to show me something. Are we going into the room? Please, go ahead. After some hesitation, he skips the room and heads to the living room. Mer-kun came out too. I feel like we’re slowly getting closer. Pino-kun, I’m going to take a shower. He’s guiding me so confidently—it’s reassuring even at night. Thank you, Pino-kun. Maximum excitement on the futon! I’m off to take a shower. Pino-kun is standing guard for me. I’ll be right out. The inn provides shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and toothbrushes. I’m back! Pino-kun is preparing his sleeping spot. I’ll set up my futon and get ready for bed too. Pino-kun, do you want to sleep over here? 😊 Thank you for today. Mind if I sleep next to you? Rolling over in bed… Good night. Good morning! ☀️🐶 Pino-kun snuggled next to me all night. Good morning, Pino-kun. He gave me his paw. Time for a reward—some massage! So cute. Today’s walk starts at 7 a.m. I’d better get ready too. The room and this hallway are so calming. Huh? It’s Mer-kun. I looked up, and there was Pino-kun, coming to get me. Thank you. Did you spot something? He gently comes close. Thank you, Pino-kun. It’s time for the morning walk. Mer-kun isn’t much of a morning dog, it seems. He’s a little low-energy right now. But once we started walking, he perked right up! This park is just a 5-minute walk from the house. It’s so spacious! I got to enjoy another morning walk today. Mer-kun’s all tuckered out. He doesn’t want to move anymore. Carrying him so we can catch up with Pino-kun. Egami-san says this is his “mission accomplished” face. Wow, there’s even a big pond here. Lotus flowers are in bloom. We even ran into a cat out for a walk. Good morning! Looks like Mer-kun is recharged now. Wild raspberries. Mer-kun activates his “Nope Shiba” mode again. Alright, let’s head back home. The two pups will have breakfast next. Maybe I’ll have breakfast too. Huh? Mer-kun? When did you get here?? Did you come over to this side? That makes me so happy. Breakfast is something I bought at the roadside station yesterday. Hm? No way… What! Mer-kun, you came too? And Pino-kun too! They’ve kindly prepared coffee, café latte, tea, and more. I’ll have some coffee. Itadakimasu. I saw this in a lot of places around Shimane. Must be a local specialty. The bread was really good too. Mer-kun is getting sleepy. Thanks for waiting. After holding him, I feel like we really bonded. So cute. When Mer-kun gets cuddly, Pino-kun patiently waits nearby. You’re such a good boy, Pino-kun. About the room… Egami-san told me that yesterday, Mer-kun actually wanted to come to the room. But with his tsundere personality, he didn’t in the end… Apparently, he was feeling a little jealous. Haha. Mer-kun, next time let’s sleep together, okay? It’s almost time to check out. This spot feels so nice. Time for one last treat. Pino-kun is enjoying his up front. Sorry, Mer-kun—got the order mixed up. Thank you for being so sweet to me, Mer-kun. It’s time to say goodbye. Mer-kun, Pino-kun, thank you for such a lovely time. Mer-kun playing with Egami-san. See you again. Bye-bye 🐶 Thank you so much for everything. On the way back, I’m planning to stop by Izumo Taisha Shrine and a roadside station. This place was recommended by Egami-san. It’s a popular roadside station with lots of local goods. Time for some lunch. Seafood rice bowl. I heard the coffee here is absolutely delicious. The aroma and flavor are perfectly balanced. Next recommendation—dried figs. 😋 While Meiji Shrine is popular with visitors from abroad, Izumo Taisha Shrine is a deeply sacred place for many Japanese people. I’m so glad I could visit and offer my prayers at this very special shrine. Thank you so much for watching until the end. 🐶 See you again in the next video!

I stayed at a 130-year-old traditional Japanese house and spent time with two adorable Shiba Inu “staff dogs” — Mer-kun and Pino-kun 🐕🐕💓
They’re incredibly friendly, even with first-time visitors! We went on walks together in the morning and evening, relaxed during the day… and at night, they even curled up in bed with me! 🛏️☺️
Peaceful countryside scenery in the San’in region and fluffy companionship made for the perfect escape.
Though they have very different personalities, both Mer-kun and Pino-kun were absolutely lovable. I hope you enjoy this heartwarming experience through the video!🌿
