【佐賀・唐津観光】唐津城と明治の洋館をめぐる一日旅|辰野金吾記念館・曳山展示場も紹介
Hello everyone, this is Ecotabi. Today I’m in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture. It takes about an hour and a half to get to Karatsu from Hakata by JR train. There’s something big in front of the station. It’s a statue of a float from the Karatsu Kunchi festival. Let’s go this way. It’s a magnificent temple. What is this? It’s cute. This is Karatsu City Hall. It’s new and pretty big. In front of Karatsu City Hall is the restored moat of Karatsu Castle. This is what the moat looks like from behind. And right in front of me is Karatsu City Hall. I walked about 3 minutes from Karatsu City Hall and came across Karatsu Shrine. The pure white torii gate is beautiful. This shrine was founded 755 years ago and has a history of over 1,200 years. This shrine holds its annual festival on April 29th and October 29th, and the Karatsu Shinto Festival (Karatsu Kunchi) on November 2nd to 4th. This Karatsu Kunchi festival was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2015. Oh, the lion dogs. They’re posing in a cute way. This one’s doing a handstand. Karatsu Kunchi is a festival that attracts a total of 500,000 people. The population of Karatsu City is 100,000, so many people from outside the city participate. There are huge votive plaques lined up. I wonder if the pictures on the plaques are also Karatsu Kunchi? Okay, let’s go to the next place. We arrived at the former Oshima residence behind Karatsu Shrine. This is the former home of Oshima Kotaro, who worked hard to modernize Karatsu. There is no admission fee, so it’s easy on the wallet. Let’s go inside! It’s a magnificent mansion. Oshima Kotaro, the owner of this house, is said to have founded the former Karatsu Bank (one of the predecessors of the Bank of Saga). He also became the first president when Karatsu Bank became the Saga Central Bank. He is also said to have been involved in the realization of the Yobuko Prefectural Road, Kyushu Railway, Karatsu Railway, and Kitakyushu Railway, the establishment of Karatsu Electric Light, and the opening of Karatsu Port. It ‘s amazing… The garden is beautiful… By the way, admission to this mansion is free, but it is also available for rental for a set period of time for a fee. Some people use it for pre-wedding photo shoots, dinner parties, banquets, study classes, sales events, exhibitions, lectures, seminars, etc. It’s nice to be able to rent such a cultural facility! It was a magnificent mansion. However, if it’s too large, it seems difficult to live there when you get older. Diagonally opposite the former Oshima residence was Karatsu City Umamon-no-Yakata. On this day, the Karatsu Yakimon Festival was being held. I went in for a bit. Inside, Karatsu ware was on display and for sale. There was a lot of pottery. It’s scary to wander around in a place like this because it seems like it would break if you bump into it… After walking about 3 minutes from Umamon-no-Yakata, the former Takatori residence came into view. This is the mansion of Takatori Koreyoshi, known as the “coal mining king of Hizen.” Photography was not permitted inside the building. The admission fee is 520 yen. The former Takatori residence has two large buildings built on a vast site of about 7,000 square meters. It has the characteristics of modern Japanese architecture, combining a Japanese-style base with Western-style rooms, and is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. After walking a little and passing Waseda Saga Junior and Senior High School, the entrance to Karatsu Castle came out. I’m going to go to Karatsu Castle, but there are many stairs… the trees are beautiful. However, the stairs are tiring. I’ve climbed so far, but there’s still more to come. When I got to the top, wisteria flowers were blooming. The wisteria flowers are also beautiful. The combination of wisteria flowers and Karatsu Castle is picturesque. Karatsu Castle from the feet. Karatsu Castle is beautiful. Let’s go to the main citadel. Wow, what a beautiful sea! Karatsu Castle is really beautiful. I climbed up to the castle tower. By the way, photography was prohibited in some areas of the site. Karatsu has beautiful sea, mountains, and town. Anywhere you look is picturesque. It’s a great place. The sea, islands, and sky are soothing. Karatsu Castle was built in 1608 using materials from Nagoya Castle, which was abandoned at the time, and was built with the help of feudal lords from all over Kyushu. They’re doing something below. It’s a monkey show. Let’s go. It’s a monkey. So cute. Oh!! It’s so cute to see them sitting there. High-five! Oh, they can do a handstand and go down the stairs. They seem to have more strength than you’d expect. They seem to like having their faces stroked. I want to see the big brother fly. The big brother is so good at talking. His cries are so cute. Ohhhhhh! He’s doing it! I enjoyed both the castle tour and the monkey show! By the way, the admission fee was 500 yen. From Karatsu Castle, we went back towards the station and came to the Former Karatsu Bank Tatsuno Kingo Memorial Museum. It’s a striking Western-style building. This is Tatsuno Kingo, who oversaw the design of the former Karatsu Bank head office. Apparently, the president of Karatsu Bank asked Tatsuno Kingo, who was from Karatsu, to design the head office, but it was actually designed by Tanaka Minoru, a disciple of Tatsuno Kingo. The inside of the building looks like this. It’s a two-story building with an open ceiling. This is the bank counter. I wonder if there was a fireplace here? This is what the inside of the bank counter looks like. Let’s go to the second floor. This is what it looks like looking down from the second floor to the first floor. There are also materials related to Tatsuno Kingo on display on the second floor. Oh, by the way, admission is free. Tokyo Station was designed by Tatsuno Kingo. While walking through the shopping district, I saw a flag for the Yakimon Festival. It seems that the Karatsu Yakimon Festival is held every year during Golden Week. I came to the Hikiyama Exhibition Hall near Karatsu Station. Admission is 310 yen. Here, the floats that are the main attraction of the Karatsu festival “Karatsu Kunchi” are exhibited all year round. There were originally 15 floats, but they were lost during the Meiji period, and 14 are exhibited here. It’s interesting that each one has a different design. It seems that even members of the imperial family have visited. You can also see the floats from the second floor. There was a description of each float written on the wall. So they run through the city like this. They’re pretty fast. It looks like it’s very impressive. I bet someone gets injured every year… We left the float exhibition hall. Karatsu Castle and the river on the left are beautiful. This is the end of today’s video. Thank you for watching. If you like, please subscribe to our channel and give us a high rating.
