It is now possible to come and go by car. The Shimanami Kaido is about 60 km long It extends to Onomichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture. It is also the first bicycle path in Japan to cross the straits and is known as a mecca for cyclists. Since the weather is fine today,
you can see a few cyclists here and there. It’s quite pleasant even by car, so it must be great by bicycle. We entered Oshima Island,
the first island to cross from the Imabari side. It takes about 15 minutes from the hotel. Indeed, you can come here by bicycle. Oshima is an island
where shipbuilding and stone industries are flourishing. There are many sightseeing spots such as an observatory, the Murakami Pirate Museum, and a rose garden. It is said that many people from the city visit the island for sightseeing on weekends and holidays. “Wow. Look.“ “Beautiful!“ That’s the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge on the Shimanami Kaido. “It’s beautiful even though it’s man-made, isn’t it?“ “Isn’t Tokyo Tower beautiful, too?“

Kirosan is a 307.8-meter-high mountain located in the southern part of Oshima. There is an observatory park at the top of the mountain, and it is one of the best sightseeing spots in Imabari. “Look at this! It’s amazing!“ Oh, wow. The bridge from earlier can be seen from a different angle. The Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge is the world’s first triple suspension bridge. It is the longest bridge on the Shimanami Kaido, connecting the land area of Imabari City with Oshima Island. This slope looks a bit tough to climb by bicycle. The elevation is 307m and the uphill distance is about 3km or less. There are cyclists… Cyclists are amazing. We parked the car and headed for the observatory. Ah, there is a turtle! About 1,300 years ago, a giant tortoise carrying a golden statue of the Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) landed on this island. The name “Kirosan（Turtle Old Mountain）” comes from the legend that the statue was enshrined here. This Kamereoyama Observation Park was designed by architect Kengo Kuma Except for the two decks in the north and south, most of the other decks are buried underground. It is one of the few observatories in the world The summit of this mountain was once cut down horizontally to make room for a small observation deck. Kengo Kuma cut a slit in the topography and inserted the observatory in the slit.
