【三浦総鎮守 海南神社】開運半島詣り!6月に神社で見かける”茅の輪”とは!?超レアな”お料理の神様”を祀る境内社も♪
Hello everyone! This is the Tocomama Information Bureau. Today, I’ve come to Misakiguchi, the southernmost tip of the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture! Behind me is the sea! It’s Misaki Port. The sea breeze is blowing a little stronger today. I’m sorry, but my hair tends to get messy . Today, I would like to visit Kainan Shrine , which is located at Misakiguchi. Kainan Shrine is considered the main shrine of the Miura Peninsula and is a popular power spot on the Miura Peninsula, but I wonder if it’s only during the summer right now? They are holding a “Good Luck Peninsula Three Shrine Pilgrimage” on the Miura Peninsula. Hayama Morito Daimyojin Uraga Nishikane Shrine Misaki Kainan Shrine If you visit these three shrines and receive a special goshuin from each one, and then visit all three, you will be given a super special dragon god’s talisman! That’s what it is. I’m going to visit three shrines that are considered power spots on the Miura Peninsula. I’ve visited Morito Shrine and Nishikane Shrine before and have mentioned them in this video, but today I’ll be visiting Kainan Shrine for the first time, so I’m looking forward to it! Now, let’s go up! Misaki Port, at the southern end of the Miura Peninsula, is a little over an hour’s drive from Tokyo . It has flourished as a calm, natural harbor since the Heian period. I enter the approach that leads from the port to the shrine. I walk along a narrow approach lined with houses and shops on both sides. I came to Kainan Shrine by car today. When I think of the Miura Peninsula, I have the image that it’s a place where you can enjoy driving, so I usually come by car, but if you’re going by train, you can take the Keikyu “Misakiguchi” exit, and there are buses that depart from there, so you can also access the shrine by train and bus. I can see the torii gate. Ah!!
There’s a cat! Hello! I’m so happy. I’ll be visiting. So lovely! There are Tanabata decorations. There are Tanabata decorations at the foot of the stone Myojin torii gate that gives off a sense of history. The shrine welcomes visitors with various decorations depending on the season. Now, excuse me. Once you pass through the torii gate, you will be surrounded by a green forest and the pleasant grounds with the sea breeze blowing through. Chozuya (purification fountain) The sacred tree behind this Chozuya (purification fountain ) is a power spot. As you can see, the shape and form of this tree resembles the figure of the dragon god hanging over the shrine below, making it a power spot. This ginkgo tree itself is quite old, and its trunk certainly looks like a dragon god with its mouth open toward the sea ! And enshrined under the sacred tree is none other than the dragon god himself. Once you pass through the torii gate, this is the spot you should pay attention to first. And there is another sacred tree, which is said to have been planted by Minamoto no Yoritomo himself. It’s thick and big! Amazing! This is not the shape of an ordinary ginkgo tree. It has a unique shape with branches hanging down as well . It is said to be about 800 years old, and is a ginkgo tree donated by Minamoto no Yoritomo in the Kamakura period as a memorial to the fulfillment of a prayer. Here is a white snake… This is also a kind of white snake monument made from a natural tree branch. Now, let’s visit the main shrine. It is now the end of June. A straw circle has been set up for the “Summer-Ending Great Purification”. It looks like we will be able to pass through the straw circle. In Japan, there is an old custom of passing through a “thion circle” set up at a shrine on the “Summer-Ending Festival” in June , praying for good health and safety of the household. So why did this custom come about? In the ancient times of the gods, two brothers, Somin Shorai and Kyodan Shorai, lived next to each other. Somin Shorai, the older brother, was very poor, while Kyodan Shorai, the younger brother, was very wealthy. One day, while traveling, Susanoo came across Kodanshorai’s house at dusk and asked for a place to stay for the night, but because Susanoo looked so shabby, he was bluntly refused. In desperation, Susanoo visited Sominshorai’s house and asked for a place to stay, and despite his poverty, Sominshorai kindly gave him a place to stay and a meal. The next morning, Susanoo gave Sominshorai’s family a small straw ring as a token of his gratitude, saying , “If you wear this around your waist, you will be protected from epidemics.” Then, when an epidemic broke out, all of Kodanshorai’s family died, but Sominshorai’s family lived a long and healthy life, and their descendants prospered. From this legend, the straw ring came to be used as a ritual implement with the power to ward off summer epidemics, with the large ring passing through it and the small ring worn around the waist. If you see a Chinowa (a grass ring) in the grounds of a shrine in June, please remember this legend and go through it while praying for good health. So I decided to go through one too. There are usually instructions like this for how to go through a Chinowa (a grass ring). First, go through it from the front, turn left and return to the front. After going through it again, turn right. Return to the front and turn left once more. After going through it a third time, proceed to the front of the shrine.
After that, worship as normal. I wish I could have uploaded this video in June, but the timing is off, and I apologize for the delay. I believe that the Chinowa will have already been put away by the time this video is uploaded, but I hope you will refer to it for next summer. Kainan Shrine was founded in 982 during the mid-Heian period. Fujiwara no Sukemitsu, a descendant of the Fujiwara nobility, drifted to this area from Kyushu, where he protected the port from Boso pirates, taught fishing, and built the foundations of the culture. After Fujiwara no Sukemitsu’s death, the people of Miura enshrined him, which is how Kainan Shrine began. The divine virtues of the sacred gods are wide-ranging, and it is said that they bring good fortune. There is a shrine within the grounds of Kainan Shrine that I would like to introduce. Sagami Kainan Takabe Shrine This is a very rare shrine that enshrines the god of cooking. The enshrined deity is Iwakamutsukarinomikoto, a name that is unfamiliar to most people, but it was originally enshrined in Chiba at Takabe Shrine , and the only Takabe Shrine in Kanagawa Prefecture was founded here after a spirit was split off from the original shrine in Chiba. This is a very rare shrine that enshrines the god of cooking, with only two shrines in the country, the main one in Chiba and this one . Emperor Keikō, the father of Yamato Takeru , toured Awa and Kazusa from the Miura Peninsula in memory of his son who had died of illness. It is said that Iwakarokugan no Mikoto was in charge of cooking for the tour.
Believed to be the ancestor of cooking, many chefs and those taking exams to become certified chefs come to worship at the shrine. On display within the shrine grounds is a large votive plaque measuring 4 metres in height and 5 metres in width, depicting the enshrined deity, Iwakarokugan no Mikoto . It was created by painter Umahori Hogen Yoshitaka, who is known for the portrait of Prince Shotoku that appears on the old 10,000 yen banknote . I too prayed that my cooking skills would improve even more. This is Konpira Shrine . At the top of the stairs, there is a plain wooden shrine building where Omononushi no Okami is enshrined. It is said to have the divine virtues of safety at sea, a satisfying catch, and prosperous business. It is worshipped by the fishing industry in Misaki. There are several paintings hanging in this Kagura Hall , depicting scenes from Japanese mythology. The scene of Izanagi and Izanami creating the country. The scene from the legend of the Heavenly Rock Cave. A scene of Amenouzume dancing, Amanotajikarao trying to open the door so that Amaterasu Omikami is about to emerge. A scene of Yamato Takeru cutting grass with Kusanagi sword (maybe cutting it down…?). His wife is also depicted. The scene of Umisachihiko, Yamasachihiko and Okuninushi Suserihime. Okuninushi’s wife is also depicted. In addition to the main hall, there are many other things to see in the grounds of Inaba no Shirato Yomotsuhirasaka Shrine, which is fun to visit. The “Kosanishi ” stone is enshrined at the base of a large ginkgo tree that bears many ginkgo fruits. It is said that if you gently touch it with a wish for children, your wish will come true. The heart-shaped votive plaques are also cute. There are Tanabata strips of paper in front of the main hall, and you can write your wishes on them as you like. I also wrote a wish for my family’s health and good fortune on my strips, so I tied it to the Tanabata decorations next to the torii gate. There is also a photo spot in the precincts where you can take photos with a monument of a tuna’s head. It really is a tuna town! Finally, at the gift shop, I received the goshuin I was looking for. The blue goshuin on the right side of the “Good Luck Peninsula Pilgrimage” that I mentioned at the beginning is the special goshuin. The goshuin on the left side, which is limited to the year of the snake, is also wonderful! I received the goshuin for the Good Luck Peninsula Tour! Actually, I plan to visit two more shrines and receive the special goshuin from all three shrines, so I will tell you about that in a video on another occasion! If you come to Misaki, you have to have tuna, so I visited the Misakikan branch “Hana”, which is in a great location right in front of Misaki Port . You can’t just pass by this delicious looking seafood bowl sign! The recommended bowl is of course the tuna! There is a wide variety and the price is relatively reasonable! Since I came on a weekday, I ordered the weekday-only special two-color tuna bowl lunch! Ta-da! The golden bowl is topped with tuna and negitoro. It’s a shiny tuna that you can look at forever, so let’s eat it while it’s fresh! Let’s start with the tuna! It melted in my mouth! The small shop has table seats and a counter. Even though it was a weekday, the shop was almost full and there was a customer next to me, so I watched with restraint in my reaction, but the tuna was rich and sweet, and I held back the urge to shout out “It’s delicious!” This shop is a long-established Misaki establishment that was founded 80 years ago . It’s no wonder that the food is delicious and the atmosphere is good. There is also seating on the second floor, and customers were there as well. I’m sure there will be a line on the weekends, so if you want to enjoy your meal at your leisure, I definitely recommend coming on a weekday. Thank you for your kind hospitality and for allowing us to take photos! Thank you for the delicious meal!
