【福岡・柳川観光】川下りと御花、城跡を巡る水の都散歩|昼食はうなぎのせいろ蒸し
Hello everyone, this is Ecotabi. Today I’m in Yanagawa, Fukuoka Prefecture. Yanagawa is famous for its river boating, so I’ll try it right away. There are several river boating companies in Yanagawa, and the courses vary depending on the company. The Ryusei boat I took went from near Yanagawa Station to Onohana in the center. By the way, the 50-minute course cost 1,800 yen per adult. The boatman, who is very eloquent, explained about Yanagawa from start to finish. On the river boating, we went under small bridges like this many times. Although it is called a river boating, it is actually the moat of Yanagawa Castle, so there is no flow in the river. And under the bridge, the boatman even sings a song. It’s a blue heron. The boatman used to work as a horse caretaker. The boatman sings this song in a situation where the rain has already come and gone repeatedly. It’s a memorial stone for eels. I was surprised to see that Shuzo Matsuoka was in Yanagawa… Ah, we bumped into each other. This boat company also offers a car service to take you back to Yanagawa Station from this bridge, but I decided to walk back. Thank you~ Speaking of sightseeing in Yanagawa, it’s river boating and Onohana. I’m heading to Onohana now. Onohana is in sight. It takes less than 5 minutes to get off the boat and arrive there. Onohana is the general name for the mansion and garden of the Tachibana family, the former feudal lords of Yanagawa. Here you can find the main building of the mansion, the garden, the accommodation facility Shotokan, the restaurant Taigetsukan, and the museum. This white building is a Western-style building that is part of the main building. I entered the main building right away. This is the large hall. It is said to be about 100 tatami mats in size. The entrance fee is 1,200 yen. I was given mandarin orange juice made in the private farm of the Tachibana family, the feudal lords of Yanagawa. In front of the large hall is the magnificent garden “Shotoen”. Currently, the entire 23,000m2 of the mansion is a nationally designated cultural property (nationally designated place of scenic beauty), and it is the only place in Japan where you can stay overnight. I took a walk around the building. This building was unusual for its time, consisting of a Western-style building and a Japanese-style building. Western-style trays. And they are flushable. Rare. The Western-style building also has a magnificent staircase. Who would have thought that such a space would be found in a private home… the ceiling is also magnificent. An old-looking Yamaha organ. These many hanging objects are decorations called “sagemon” that are used for the Hinamatsuri in Yanagawa. They are hung with auspicious objects to pray for the happiness and health of girls celebrating their first festival, good health, and good relationships, and are a custom passed down from parent to child, and from child to grandchild. There were many golden helmets on display. In the garden, Shotoen, there are about 280 black pines, 1500 garden stones, 14 stone lanterns, two islands and many floating rock islands, and flocks of wild ducks fly in in winter. I left Ohana. There are moats all over the town. I was hungry, so I decided to have lunch at Wakamatsuya. The interior of the restaurant is calm. I ordered the specialty, steamed eel (mini). The mini size is half eel, but it has plenty of rice. The eel was fluffy and combined with the sweet sauce, it was very delicious. After lunch, I walked a little and headed to the ruins of Yanagawa Castle. This is said to be the ruins of Yanagawa Castle. It was a little higher, but nothing remains. Near the ruins of Yanagawa Castle was Hiyoshi Shrine. It is said that the shrine is affectionately known as “Sanno-san” in this area. It is said that since ancient times, the shrine has the divine power to ward off evil and bad luck, and to grant good fortune, prosperity, and satisfaction. By the way, a huge Otafuku mask is set up at the entrance to the approach to the shrine every year from the end of the year to April. It is 5.2 meters tall and wide, and weighs about 300 kilograms. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see it because I visited in May. Wow, what a surprise. Scary… It’s time to move on to the next place. This is Yanagawa City Hall. A typical city hall. This is the Amebō Center, which is the city library and water museum. Where there is a moat, there is a boat. I arrived at Mitsuhashira Shrine, located north of Yanagawa Station. The view of the moat from here is beautiful. The shrine enshrines three gods: Tachibana Muneshige, the first lord of Yanagawa, a veteran warlord known as “the strongest man in the west,” his father-in-law Totsugi Dosetsu, and Muneshige’s wife Ginchiyohime. The shrine is revered as the “god of resurrection” along with the blessings of victory, success, and resurrection. The shrine is also located in the direction of the demon’s gate (northeast) from Yanagawa Castle. In spring, it is a popular spot for cherry blossoms, and every October, the autumn festival “Onigie” is held. In addition, during the hydrangea season, hydrangeas are displayed at the water basin here. I missed the time to come – it’s rare to see so many lanterns displayed in front of the worship hall. The grounds were quite large, but the worship hall itself has a simple feel. The weather is getting worse, so I’ll stop sightseeing here. This is the end of today’s video. Thank you for watching.
