時代劇のような雰囲気

一歩一歩進むごとに、江戸時代へとタイムスリップしていくような不思議な感覚に包まれます。
風に揺れる暖簾、土壁の趣、そして水路のせせらぎ。

両側に続くのは、黒い板塀や格子戸が美しい、古民家の数々。すれ違う人もまばらで、しっとりと落ち着いた時間が流れています。

熊川宿は、若狭と京都を結ぶ重要な宿場町として発展しました。特に天正17年以来発展を続け、豊臣秀吉に重用された浅野長政が、交通と軍事の要衝としてこの地の発展を図りました。旧街道沿いには昔ながらの水路が流れ、奉行所・番所・お蔵屋敷の跡が残っています。また、重要伝統的建造物群保存地区に選定されており、往年の繁栄を偲ぶ町並みが保存されています。平成27年には、熊川宿を含む鯖街道が日本遺産に認定されました。

An atmosphere like a period drama
Kumagawa-juku is as if time has stopped.
With each step, you are enveloped in a mysterious sensation of traveling back to the Edo period.
The noren curtains swaying in the wind, the elegance of the clay walls, and the murmuring of the waterway.
Everything you sense with your five senses quietly speaks to the long history of this area and the lives of its people.
On both sides are a number of old houses with beautiful black wooden fences and lattice doors. There are few people passing by, and time flows calmly and peacefully.
If you follow your feet, you will find the waterway with its abundant water flowing with a gentle sound, adding a nice touch to the scenery.
This clear murmuring that is integrated into daily life tells the story of the peaceful daily life of this post town.
You can feel the history of how each house has been run with care.
As you pass by the remains of the former magistrate’s office and guardhouse, you can’t help but imagine how many people passed by on this road and how many dramas were born here.

Kumagawa-juku developed as an important post town connecting Wakasa and Kyoto. It has continued to develop since 1582, and Asano Nagamasa, who was highly valued by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, promoted the development of this area as a key transportation and military point. Old waterways run along the old road, and the remains of the magistrate’s office, guardhouse, and storehouse remain. In addition, it has been designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, and the townscape that recalls the prosperity of the past has been preserved. In 2015, the Saba Kaido, including Kumagawa-juku, was designated as a Japan Heritage Site.
