751 D Park was the 751 Factory (founded in 1954). As a key project during the 1st 5-Year Plan period in New China, it was once the largest gas production plant in Asia, providing a continuous stream of energy support for Beijing’s industrial and lives. Towering chimneys, mottled rails, and rusty industrial equipment, these seemingly old objects are actually vivid witnesses of the city’s industrial civilization. They carry the memories of generations and record the glory and struggle of an era. Today, 751 Factory has transformed to a cultural and artistic park, becoming an important part of 798 Art Zone.
Compared with Nakameguro in Tokyo, Japan & Chelsea Art District in New York, USA, 751 D Park has its own unique charm. Nakameguro is famous for its exquisite Japanese aesthetics, cultural, creative shops full of life. The streets are filled with a fresh and elegant atmosphere; the Chelsea brings together many high-end galleries and avant-garde art exhibitions, demonstrating the atmosphere and inclusion of the international art capital. While retaining the rough texture of industrial sites, 751 D Park incorporates diverse artistic elements and creative designs, which not only has the sense of historical heaviness but also is full of the vitality of modern art. It is like a huge art container, perfectly integrating industrial civilization with contemporary art, forming a unique artistic atmosphere.
Departing from 751 D Park, you will soon see Locomotive Plaza. Steam locomotives that are still magnificent stand here quietly, now they have become the iconic landscape, some of them have become restaurants or handicraft stores. Every inch of steel in the locomotive tells the stories of the past, attracting countless tourists to stop and take photos. Continue along the tracks, we arrive at the 751 industrial site area. Towering gas tanks, intricate pipelines, huge mechanical equipment, the once roaring industrial facilities now stand there quietly. After years of baptism, they present a unique sense of vicissitudes and beauty. The designers retained the original style of these industrial relics, and through artistic transformation and lighting design, turned them into imaginative artistic spaces.
Then we return to the 798 Central Store Area, this place brings together many specialty stores and art studios, making it a paradise for art lovers and shopping experts. From exquisite artistic derivatives, fashionable design clothing, to ingenious household goods, every store is full of personality and creativity.
During the journey, we appreciate the unique charm of the industrial ruins of the 751 Factory, also felt the perfect fusion of industrial civilization and modern art, and experienced the rich and diverse artistic and life atmosphere of 798 Art Zone. Every corner here is full of surprises, and every moment is worth recording.
