SECRETS CAP CANA All Inclusive šŸ‡©šŸ‡“ Dominican Republic ā° Resort Tour & Review ā± BEST Beach in DR!

Secrets Cap Cana in many ways is the veryĀ
definition of idyllic. The location and specifically that beach and the scale ofĀ
it blew me away. The only major thing going against it is that the resort next door, ownedĀ
by the same company for around the same price is better in too many ways to ignore.
By the way, did you know that the price that I paid for this specific stay-Ā
and any flight or hotel I review- is always listed in the description below?
Let me welcome any of you who may be new to the channel, my name is Kevin. I’m here toĀ
give you a self-funded and honest look at some of the best- and some of the not so best- airlinesĀ
and hotels in the world, which I’ve been bringing to you full time for the past four years. CheckĀ
out my hundreds of videos, scan the QR code or Unlike most of my videos, there isn’t really anyĀ
driving footage to lead into the arrival since I was arriving from the Hyatt Zilara just next door.
But then there’s also no walk through the lobby because if you take a look up there you’llĀ
notice the lobby is naked at the moment. It was undergoing major renovations while I was here. IĀ
didn’t get any notification about this in advance, but I’ve seen online some people did- either way,Ā
it is now reopened so I’m not going to dwell on it- besides of course showing off this lovelyĀ
arrival and departure point and the wedding tent that served as the temporary lobby bar.
My check in actually took place at the Preferred Club which gives you access to the preferredĀ
club lounge, which is tiny, the preferred club pool and the Rosewater restaurant.
But you’re here for views like this anyway, so, let’s get into the meatĀ
and potatoes of the review. Secrets Cap Cana opened in November 2016 andĀ
was at the time owned by Apple Leisure Group, the same owner as other brands such as DreamsĀ
and Breathless Resorts. Hyatt bought the group in 2021 and now Secrets is one of theirĀ
adults only all inclusive brands, one of many. Secrets, it would seem, is being spun as a moreĀ
romantic adults only option versus the, I don’t know, less romantic Hyatt Zilara? In my experienceĀ
the biggest difference was the crowd and the food. The resort has 457 rooms, suites and villas andĀ
truly has one of the more interesting layouts that I’ve seen in a while. Housing rooms in smallĀ
blocks spread across the property is nothing new, but here it just feels like there’s no dead space.Ā
There’s no weird corner that never gets sun, no areas which clearly aren’t first rate- allĀ
facilities are just really well integrated. I give the designers a lot of credit for that.
The resort has two primary pools, the one we are looking around now is the largerĀ
of the two and is open for all guests, the other which we’ll see in a bit is reservedĀ
for the Preferred Club guests, but in reality, no one was actually checking anything.
Here around the larger pool were a bunch of venues including a swim up bar, a regular bar and theĀ
Barefoot Grill which served up casual lunch fare. You know one of my deep loves in lifeĀ
are spotlessly clean lounger cushions so this place had me falling prettyĀ
hard pretty quickly. I’ll let you have a bit of a walk around beforeĀ
we take a look at where we are. can also help the channel continue to grow byĀ
liking this video and subscribing to the channel So Punta Cana is on the far eastĀ
coast of the Dominican Republic. Cap Cana is the most exclusive enclave in theĀ
area- a gated community of sorts and one with enough natural beauty to deserve the designation.
Here you can see the resort, with Hyatt Ziva and Zilara just below it. Now, funny thing about thisĀ
image is the beach, the beach is so large that it almost makes the resort look smaller. As youĀ
will very soon see, this is one of the if not the largest beach I’ve ever seen for a single resort.
In total, Secrets has just over 30000 square meters or 324k Square feet of sand. None of usĀ
know how big that is though, right? So let me put it in easier terms. The beach is as largeĀ
as a FIFA standard soccer or football pitch. Oh wait no, I got that wrong, I meant 4 ¼ football
fields. Four ¼ football fields for 457 rooms, those are numbers that are speaking my language.
This is Juanillo Beach and over the next couple of minutes as we tour this beach and all it hasĀ
to offer, please just know that none of these clips are repeated and I did my best to make sureĀ
I’m not continuously showing you the same areas. If you like sun, if you like shade, if you likeĀ
umbrellas or trees or a bar in the middle of the beach or a hammock or powder fine brightĀ
white sand. Well this is the beach for you. Now, keep in mind that this is the exact sameĀ
beach as Hyatt Zilara and Ziva, but this one is simply larger on a per room basis and has moreĀ
personality with the variety of trees and plants. With it’s 34000 square meters of beach, theĀ
combined Hyatt properties give each of their 700 rooms around 49sq meters of space. That aĀ
decent sized studio apartment. At Secrets, it’s 66 square meters per room or a decent sized oneĀ
bedroom apartment. Do these numbers matter? No, not at all, but sometimes cameras don’t do localesĀ
justice so I figured those numbers would help things a bit. Like many beaches in the Caribbean Sea and GulfĀ
of Mexico, seaweed can at times be a problem, but it was clearly taken careĀ
of on a daily basis here. At first glance, a lot of these swim up roomsĀ
or villas may not seem all of that private, but since everything is so spreadĀ
out, they really are great options. Beach side near the primary pool there’s anotherĀ
bar. So that’s one bar on each side of this pool, plus the swim up bar, plus the bar in theĀ
middle of the beach. You won’t be thirsty. One of the restaurants open for lunch and dinnerĀ
is Seaside Grill which also shares space, kinda, with Oceana which is just open for dinner.Ā
As with my last review, I’m not going to post menus because there are simply too many andĀ
it’s very easy to access them. Simply download the Hyatt Inclusive Collection app on yourĀ
phone, with the icon you see here- it’s not the standard Hyatt app- and then you can accessĀ
the resort and see every restaurant and menus, maps, activity calendars and a lot more.
Now we are on the north side of the resort, this is the Preferred Club area, with Rosewater,Ā
the preferred club restaurant in the middle. I had access to the Preferred Club due toĀ
Hyatt Globalist status. Globalists beware, access to the club could very well be theĀ
only benefit you have while here- not that it’s a bad thing, but just saying, don’tĀ
expect best available room upgrades. Even the cheapest rooms are considered juniorĀ
suites and all rooms from pool view and higher have the ā€œThis is a standard suiteā€Ā
line written into the room description. Let me talk a bit about crowds for aĀ
moment. This is not meant to offend- don’t come at me- but my eyes told me thatĀ
the crowd here skews a bit older than Zilara and perhaps slightly more suburban. SuburbanĀ
is not a bad thing, just saying what I saw. I had lunch at Rosewater andĀ
frankly it was wholly disappointing. I started off with the chilledĀ
melon soup with ham. I mean, it was certainly chilled. It was certainlyĀ
melon and the was a micro dusting of bacon bits, but it wasn’t more than that. I did honestlyĀ
think it was just blended up cantaloupe with zero additions or seasoning. 2/10
For the main dish, yes this is written as a main course, I had the Caramelized ScallopsĀ
with roasted red peppers and creamy avocado. Let’s move past the artwork and just focus on theĀ
scallops which were so overcooked they were almost crunchy like way overcooked prawns. AnotherĀ
2/10. Not a great start on the food front. Let’s get back on a more positiveĀ
track and go visit my room. I booked the standard king room was was upgradedĀ
to the Preferred Club Pool View Junior Suite. They are obviously fast and looseĀ
with the suite terminology but that seems to be the trend du jour.
The room itself though I did really like. I thought it was a niceĀ
balance of form and function. I’ll give you a look aroundĀ
as I put up the extra bits. The mini bar is inclusiveĀ
and restocked once a day. Let me talk a bit about service. It wasn’t whatĀ
I was expecting. The exception to this were the staff inside the Preferred Club Lounge andĀ
my server at dinner. Everyone else was either ironically in a rush or couldn’t be bothered. MyĀ
butler, as you may have while here for example. When he was bringing me to my room and showingĀ
me around he was speaking so fast that he would ask questions and he would start speakingĀ
again before I finished my answers. I can understand they might have a steep work load,Ā
but I can assure you most guests would rather just see themselves to their room than to feelĀ
like you’re taking up someone’s precious time. The other side of the spectrum where mostĀ
service staff fell was just a lot of immaturity, both in actions- screaming across the pool toĀ
one another, for example- and in experience, not understanding how to keep trackĀ
of guests at a not busy at all bar. If this was a $300 per night resort, nearly noneĀ
of these comments would apply. But I paid around $500 and depending on the season you canĀ
easily see standard rooms for $1000 per night. They need to do better with service.
The bathrooms were a nice size with some Ian Schreager vibes and featured LeĀ
Labo products, which were much appreciated. Last but not least, the balconyĀ
overlooking the pool with a smidge of ocean view. Considering this isĀ
a resort geared towards romance, I do think the dividers betweenĀ
balconies could be a bit more private. Ok, let’s go check out some ofĀ
the options for dinner- many of the a la carte restaurants are in aĀ
row at the base of the lobby area. First up we have El Patio,Ā
where you’ll find Mexican fare. Portofino has you covered ifĀ
you’re looking for Italian. Himitsu is your choice for Teppinyaki. Last up, we have Bordeaux which is theĀ
French Restaruant and where I had dinner. The service was very good, perhapsĀ
a bit over the top but good. I started out with the Onion Soup. It was a bitĀ
disappointing. When I have French Onion Soup, I want my mouth to burn for days. In this case,Ā
it was a crouton with broiled cheese placed on top of not that hot onion soup. 5/10.
For the main dish, they fully redeemed themselves with the Confit beef rib servedĀ
with mushroom and onion tempura risotto. Tempura covered in sauce kind of defeats theĀ
purpose, but otherwise, this was a rich and flavorful as you could possibly expect, IĀ
just wish there was a bit more of it. 9/10. Last up, the Chocolate Fondant simply becauseĀ
the dessert menu was very basic. It was okay, but nothing over the top and the lumpyĀ
creme anglaise wasn’t too appealing, 6/10. Sorry, sunlight, but I just wanted to be ableĀ
to show you the theater before any shows. The next morning I headed to Coco Cafe asĀ
I was waiting for the Market Cafe buffet to open. This is a temporary location for CocoĀ
Cafe, it is not in the lobby as it should be. Market Cafe was a nice venueĀ
with a nice selection on offer. Their fruit selection in particular wasĀ
fantastic. I’ve never seen Passion Fruit, Granadillo and Sugarcane all on the sameĀ
buffet before. Bravo for keeping it local. I also liked that they devoted anĀ
entire corner of the buffet to that leg. The selection of hot dishes on offer was almostĀ
endless and I love how many local dishes they had as well- I just wish things were actually hot.
I think the quality and spread on offer is a seven but the fact that so much of it wasn’tĀ
heated properly means we will settle for a six. I should mention I tried to visit theĀ
gym which was just around the corner from my room multiple times but it was alwaysĀ
busy, so we will settle for this quick photo. Overall, this is a stunning resort and ifĀ
it wasn’t all inclusive- for a lower price of course- I likely would have scored it higher.Ā
But food is such an important piece of the puzzle when choosing the correct all inclusive resort.Ā
Online there are endless forums and articles about which to choose, Secrets or Zilara whenĀ
visiting Cap Cana. There was no definitive answer and that’s why I decided to visit both.
The styles of the resort itself between the two are very different. Zilara is more modern, SecretsĀ
more hacienda- I like both with a slight edge towards Secrets for it’s fantastic layout. SecretsĀ
also takes the cake for the beach for just the scale of it. But fact of the matter is, ZilaraĀ
is just next door and still has a massive chunk of it all things considered. So let’s sayĀ
for design and locale, Secrets has the edge. The breakfast buffets at both were comparable.Ā
But when it comes to lunch venues and service, Zilara wins hands down. So overall, Zilara wouldĀ
be my choice, but I can definitely see why someone would still choose- and have a great time at-Ā
Secrets after watching both of these videos. So I really do hope you enjoyedĀ
this resort tour today. If you did, most surprising flight of the year on Iberia.Ā
As always, thanks for watching until the end.

This is NOT a promotional video. I pay for all of my flights and hotels (and I always tell you how much!) so I can be as honest and impartial as possible. I do not receive any special treatment that wouldn’t otherwise be publicly accessible, in fact, the hotels and airlines have no idea about my visit and that’s the way I like it!

  1. Sorely tempted to nick down there before moving back to Australia in August. Longing for another glimpse of those incredible, literally, skies. Beautifully captured in the video. Having had food poisoning in London recently found the food temp issues at the breakfast buffet rather worrying, especially in the climate

  2. Beside the breakfast buffet, were there no food venues highlighting local cuisine? I might have missed it though.
Still a decent resort. Thanks for sharing šŸ˜ŠšŸŽ‰

  3. Hi Kevin. How are you? Thank you for another great video! How do you get great deals for all the AI resorts? Do you book off peak months?

  4. I've only ever been to one all-inclusive resort, forever ago, and it was in Punta Cana. I don't remember what it was called – my parents dragged me to it just as I was entering my Backpacker Era – but we only ever ate at the buffet, and the buffet was huge but it had just a teeny tiny Dominican section off in the corner. That section had some of the best food I'd ever eaten. It's great to see that Secrets is offering so much local food, because I still think about those black beans and goat curries to this day.

  5. We stayed at Sanctuary Cap Cana in Nov 24 and experienced the exact same thing with lukewarm at best food on the buffets. Is this a common thing in DR? Service was also less than stellar there too. Had been thinking about trying this one out after just staying at a fabulous Secrets in Playa Blanca.

  6. as a globalist i really appreciate your coverage for mexican/caribbean hyatt all inclusives! theres a lot them and not much comprehensive reviews, so keep it going mate

  7. We loved our stay at Secrets Cap Cana. We had a tropical view swim out and used it every day. The food was excellent, service was very good, and the rooms were very nice as well. So far…out of numerous trips to Punta Cana…this is at the top of our list. Hyatt Zilara is on our shortvlist of resorts we still want to visit.

  8. Best line yet "suburban is not a bad thing, just saying what I saw"

Thanks for another great review Kevin šŸ‘šŸ‘

  9. Whilst I appreciate your reasons for filming early and late, it would be nice to have the odd shot of peak time to indicate how crowded beaches and restaurants can get. Overall one of the best comparison videos on YouTube !

  10. Calling that a junior suite is extremely… generous. You’re right about this happening more and more at hotels across all chains.

  11. Disagree completely with the initial statement . The Hyatt claims to be adult only which it isn’t , it shares parts of it with the family side which isn’t ideal if you don’t like to see kids .
Secrets cap Cana blows Hyatt out of the water for service and most other things

  12. They clearly didn’t like you too much šŸ˜‚ every time I’ve been the service has been impeccable , amazing staff and can’t be faulted

  13. We had friends stay here a couple of months ago and they said that the resort is starting to show its age and loungers-seat cushions are in need of replacing and or cleaned as many have stains or are simply old. Also, rooms need updates and refreshed along with facilities other than that it's a gorgeous resort on a beautiful beach but ever since Hyatt took over prices have surged and it's one of the most expensive resorts in the area! Do you know if the resort plans on doing any upgrades or modernization now that resort is 10 years old? They preferred Hyatt Zilara and we plan possibly going there next year or the newest Secrets Playa Blanca in Costa Mujeres, Mexico.
