ジャパンアニメーション発祥の地 大泉学園駅
「銀河鉄道999」のメーテルや星野鉄郎のブロンズ像に加え、高橋留美子先生の作品で練馬区を舞台にした『うる星やつら』のラムちゃん、『鉄腕アトム』のアトム、『あしたのジョー』の矢吹丈など、練馬区ゆかりの人気アニメキャラクターの像が設置されています。
駅の発車メロディーも『銀河鉄道999』のテーマ曲で、駅構内には車掌さんの像もあります。
練馬区大泉には、日本初のカラー長編アニメ『白蛇伝』や、日本初の連続テレビアニメ『鉄腕アトム』を制作したスタジオがありました。そのため、練馬区は「アニメのまち」として地域振興に力を入れています。
特に大きな理由は、『銀河鉄道999』の作者である松本零士先生が、50年以上にわたり大泉学園に住み、活動の拠点としていたことです。先生とこの地の深い縁から、大泉学園駅は『銀河鉄道999』の世界観を表現する場所として選ばれました。
