Mykonos: Greek Paradise or Tourist Trap?

In this video Welcome to Mykonos Town — or as we locals call it, Chora. This is of one of the most famous islands in the world. From above, you can already feel its charm — whitewashed houses, winding alleys, and the deep blue sea waiting just beyond. Mykonos is part of the Cyclades, a group of islands in the heart of the Aegean Sea. Here, traditional Cycladic charm blends effortlessly with a vibrant, cosmopolitan vibe — creating an island experience like no other. This is the perfect place for photos Let’s walk together through its winding alleys and discover the soul of this beautiful island. It’s famous for its postcard-perfect whitewashed houses, blue doors, and vibrant bougainvillea. But beyond the pretty façade, there’s a long story to tell. We’re now entering Little Venice — one of the most photographed spots on the island. These colorful buildings with wooden balconies are built right on the water’s edge, where waves kiss the foundations. And when the sea gets playful, it puts on quite a show! Sometimes, just walking by becomes an adventure… if you’re not careful, you might get a salty splash as a souvenir! I actually like sea water — I don’t mind getting splashed. But my camera? Not so much. She’s not a big fan of surprises from the waves This is Negrita — one of the most iconic bars in the area Limes on the table… So, what will it be — a lemonade or a cocktail? And from right here, you can spot the island’s famous windmills — one of Mykonos’ most iconic sights We’ll get a closer look a bit later, so stick around… they’re even more beautiful up close! This is the Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Rosary — a peaceful little gem built in the 17th century, According to Greek mythology, Mykonos was named after Mykons, a local hero said to be a descendant of Apollo. And just a short boat ride from here lies Delos — the sacred island where, according to myth, Apollo and Artemis were born It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important archaeological destinations in all of Greece. These beautiful islands aren’t just home to stunning views — they’re also a paradise for cats! They live the good life here — napping in the shade during siesta time and lounging on warm stone walls. And of course, they’re never too far from a fresh bite of fish! These cats really know how to live: sea air, good food, and long naps in the sun Maybe they know the real secret to happiness… and a long life! And here we are, in the luxury shopping zone of Mykonos Town. Everything looks polished, stylish, and just a little bit exotic. You’ll find all the big names here: Louis Vuitton, Dior, Boss… and a few others you might recognize from glossy magazines. So, what do you think — are these shops for the rich, or for those who like to look rich? Let me know in the comments — I’m really curious what you think! It’s absolutely beautiful here. The colors pop from every corner, the flowers spill, and even the shadows feel like part of the charm. That’s the vibe here — warm, friendly, and always ready to make you feel at home, even if it’s your first time on the island. Mykonos is often called “The Island of the Winds,” thanks to the strong meltemi winds that sweep across it — especially in summer. Luckily, they help keep things cool and breezy on hot days. Believe it or not, this stunning island was once a pirate hotspot! Back in medieval times, it was a regular stop for corsairs sailing through the Aegean. According to Greek mythology, Mykonos is where the gods battled the giants — and the scattered boulders on the island? Supposedly the remains of those ancient fights. Well hello there, beautiful! Just look at those emerald eyes — you must be the queen of this alley. Mykonos enjoys a classic Mediterranean climate: hot, dry summers with plenty of sunshine And those famous island winds help keep it all perfectly pleasant. Yes, Mykonos is known for its wild nightlife and luxury clubs — but there’s so much more. Quiet traditional villages, hidden beaches, peaceful resorts… the island has a calm side too. Food here? Absolutely delicious. Fresh seafood, creamy tzatziki, grilled octopus, and golden fried cheese — all served with a view. Whether you’re after a fancy dinner or a simple souvlaki, Mykonos knows how to feed you right! At a seaside restaurant, a dish can cost around €25–30, and if you’re in a fancy spot, don’t be surprised to see prices going up to €50 or more per plate. But don’t worry — there are also local tavernas and street food spots where you can grab a tasty gyros for 5-6 euro. There’s something here for every kind of appetite… and every kind of wallet. 😉 Greece isn’t just a place — it’s a feeling. Sun on your skin, salt in the air, and that perfect mix of history, food, and warm Greek hospitality — the kind that makes you feel like family. The iconic Mykonos windmills — built by Venetians back in the 16th century to grind wheat with the help of gusty northern winds Once upon a time, there were around 28 windmills scattered across the island. Today, about 16 still remain — and 7 of them are right here in Kato Mili, the most postcard-perfect spot of all. One of the windmills has even been turned into a small museum, where you can see how flour was once made. And every early September, there’s a local celebration called the Harvest Festival — full of music, food, and island traditions. Up here, every corner looks like a magazine cover — no filter needed. This spot is legendary for photos, and yes… it’s where every girl dreams of that perfect onet — the kind you save forever, not just for Instagram. Enjoy the journey? A like would mean the world to me — thank you so much for being here! 🙌 And since we’ve got plenty of sunshine on this island… how about we cool off a little in the sea? Trust me — the water’s just as inviting as it looks! It’s that perfect mix of cool and refreshing. Right here at this small church, it looks like something special is about to happen. They’ve set up long chairs outside — maybe a wedding? With this stunning view of the sea, boats gently floating by, it’s the perfect spot for it. Most windmills face north, catching the full force of the famous meltemi winds for up to 300 days a year—nature’s own power switch! Two of these windmills—Geronymos and Bonis—are actually open to visitors Some say these mills helped build the island’s wealth during Venetian rule . Make sure to stick around until the end of the video — that’s when you’ll see the windmills at their most magical. It’s no surprise this place draws so many visitors — it really is stunning. Here we are at the old port of Mykonos — one of the most charming spots on the island. This is the Church of Agios Nikolaos of Kadena — a small, whitewashed chapel nestled right by the old port. With its bright blue dome and peaceful setting by the sea, it’s one of those postcard-perfect places that feels both sacred and simple. Fishermen used to stop here to say a quick prayer before heading out It’s getting pretty warm out here… and honestly, jumping into the sea sounds really tempting right now. But I’ll have to wait just a little longer — we’re heading to the beach near the port soon. Just look at this view— it’s like a postcard come to life. Two men sitting right by the water, cleaning fresh fish No rush, no noise — just the sound of waves and a bucket full of today’s catch. This is the part that happens behind the postcards… and probably ends up on your plate a bit later, grilled to perfection! Picture this: it’s a lazy afternoon, the sun is warm but not too hot, and you’re sitting at a seaside table with a cold beer, lemonade, or whatever makes you smile. The waves are gently lapping just a few meters away, there’s chatter all around, maybe a bit of bouzouki music in the background… and nothing else seems to matter. The air here is perfect — fresh from the sea, a little salty, with that light breeze that makes even the hottest day feel easy. And now we’ve arrived at Paralia Choras Mikonou — the main beach right in the heart of town. It’s small, cozy, and just steps away from cafés, shops, and the old port. We get to enjoy a beach day without even leaving the center. The water’s crystal clear, the breeze is gentle andthe sun shining right ahead And if you listen closely, you might hear the music from one of those boat parties out at sea We’ve now reached the elegant side of the port, where seaside restaurants line the water’s edge like pearls on a string. Tables are set up, glasses sparkle in the sun, and the sea is just a few steps away, gently reflecting the afternoon light. Be honest… wouldn’t you want to be right here, right now? If you liked this video, a simple thumbs up would really help! Thanks a million for your support! 🙏 And here she is — a real beauty of the sea! This sleek white yacht is the kind you only see in movies… Imagine sipping champagne on the upper deck while the sun sets over the Aegean… not bad, right? Wow… just look at this! So much color, so much charm in one little street. The bougainvillea climbs over the white walls like nature’s own decoration, and the flowers above create a canopy of pink, yellow, and green. It’s like walking through a painting — every step feels like a postcard moment. We’re now walking through some of the most charming little alleys in Mykonos Town. Whitewashed walls, blue doors, stone paths, and bursts of bougainvillea and ivy — every step feels like you’re in a storybook. Shops and boutiques peek out from cozy corners, and the shade makes this walk feel like a quiet escape from the summer sun. It’s incredibly easy to get lost in these narrow alleys But here’s the twist: that’s exactly how they were designed. Back in the day, these winding, maze-like streets weren’t just charming — they were strategic. The locals built them this way on purpose to confuse invading pirates. Twists, dead ends, and hidden corners made it almost impossible for outsiders to find their way… while the locals knew every shortcut. Okay okay, I’ll come back after your beauty routine! Wow… this tree looks painted! It makes the whole alley feel magical. Uhm… excuse me, may I pass, Your Majesty? Thank you! Very generous of you, Your Furriness. This little vehicle does all the heavy lifting — island deliveries, Mykonos style! Alright, time for a little cardio — let’s head uphill and earn that view! And here we are — Boni’s Windmill, It’s perched up here on the hill, and just look at that view. From up here, you can see the entire town spilling down to the sea, white rooftops glowing in the sun, and boats dotting the deep blue Aegean. I was this close to jumping in this pool… But then I saw the line of cactus bodyguards guarding the edge. 😅 We’re joking around, but honestly… it’s getting pretty warm out here. Hey, do you happen to know the way to a small, beautiful church around here? I think I got a little lost… but hey, looks like I found it after all — thanks, kitty! Have you ever tried cactus fruit? I actually like them — sweet, refreshing, and full of flavor. I even tried cactus juice once… and honestly, it was surprisingly delicious! Hold it right there, human. These stairs? Yeah… they’re mine. Give me a snack. Or… just turn around and admire me from a safe distance. No snacks today… it’s too hot. Guess I’ll take the long way around. We have the honor of meeting the one and only — the Famous Pelican of Mykonos! Yes, he’s a bit of a local celebrity around here. The story goes back to the 1950s, when a fisherman rescued an injured pelican — they named him Petros, and he became the island’s beloved mascot. After Petros passed, the island welcomed new pelicans to carry on the legacy. And here he is today, strutting through town like he owns the place… which, honestly, he kind of does. If you enjoy the video, please give it a thumbs up! It means a lot to me, thank you so much!🙏 This is Salt Bae’s Mykonos outpost — flashy, bold, and all about the show. He brought his signature flair here, right where the island meets luxury. Another cat? I’ve lost count already… Has anyone been keeping score? Or are they secretly running this island? 😺🐾 As I was saying… Petros the pelican is so famous, he even has his own statue. In Mykonos, people don’t just come to relax — they come to shine. ✨ Wow, look at that floating city! The Celebrity Equinox just docked — a modern giant that makes you think of the Titanic, but way more luxurious With thousands of guests, rooftop gardens, and theaters on board, it’s basically a moving city Next to that cruise ship, this yacht looks like a mouse beside an elephant But that’s pretty common here—Mykonos is a favorite playground for the rich and their yachts. Of course, you don’t need a giant yacht or cruise ship to get to Mykonos. Ferries are a great way to travel between the Greek islands! I always use Ferryhopper – it’s fast, reliable, and shows you all available routes in one place. I’ll leave the link in the description and comments Book now and enjoy the ride — no stress, just waves! If you’re arriving by ferry at the New Port (Tourlos), don’t worry — you’re just a short ride away from the heart of Mykonos Town The easiest and most fun way to get there? Hop on the Sea Bus! ⛴️ It costs just €2, and in about 8–10 minutes, it brings you straight into Mykonos Town — right where the charm begins, From right here in the port, you can hop on all kinds of boat trips and excursions. Want to visit the sacred island of Delos? There are daily tours that take you there in just 30 minutes — perfect for history lovers! Looking for something more relaxing? You’ll also find catamaran cruises, sunset sails, and even party boats that tour the southern beaches. Some offer food, drinks, snorkeling… or just good vibes and music on the open sea. 🎶🌊 Whatever your style, there’s a boat waiting with your name on it. This is Panagia Paraportiani, the most famous church in Mykonos — and one of the most photographed in Greece It’s actually five chapels in one, built over centuries, with soft white curves that glow beautifully in the sun. More art than architecture — and an absolute must-see. ⛪ And right next to it is Kastro’s Restaurant — the famous spot with that breathtaking sea view you’re about to see. Just look at that view — the iconic windmills right across the water. A picture-perfect slice of Mykonos magic Wow… now this is a sunset! Every evening, the sky puts on a show People come here just to catch this golden magic. Some even sail in on their yachts — just for the view. Can you really say no to this view? It’s a true spectacle — boats, people, and nature in perfect harmony. And this sunset… it truly leaves me speechless. And this is how the windmills look at evening Now tell me… would you add this to your bucket list? Been here before? Tell us — how was it? In Mykonos, people don’t just come to relax — they come to shine. ✨ Many tourists here are pretty well-off, and they dress like it too: designer outfits, flowing dresses, big sunglasses… and that’s just brunch! 😎 But the real show starts at sunset. The streets of the town turn into an open-air runway, full of global fashion and effortless style. It’s not an official parade — but it sure looks like one.
