【ドイツ旅行】ドイツ人と旅するケルン観光 ドイツ旅行おすすめNo.1!ヨーロッパ旅行者必見
Hallo, everyone! Today, we came to Cologne, Germany. Welcome to Cologne. This time, we did a day trip to Cologne. We’ll introduce the city of Cologne, which is also a popular destination amongst Germans, with Marc, a former resident. Let’s enjoy the city of Cologne together. When we left the station in Cologne, a magnificent view of the cathedral spread out before us. Actually, when it was completed, this cathedral was the tallest building in the world. But not anymore, right? Well, that was in 1880. But four years later, it lost that title again. Now, it’s not the tallest church in Germany, but it is the tallest church with two towers in Germany. That’s something Cologne residents are quite proud of. The church is built in Gothic style. So, the windows are big and beautiful. Yes! I think wee’ll probably see it when we go inside. The construction of Cologne Cathedral began in 1248, but it was interrupted in the 16th century due to a lack of funds and the influence of the Reformation. In the 19th century, it regained attention as a national symbol during the movement for German unification, and construction resumed. It was finally completed in 1880, 632 years later. It is considered the masterpiece of Gothic architecture and was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. The interior of the cathedral is vast, with high vaulted ceilings and beautiful stained glass windows. The modern stained glass by Gerhard Richter, installed in 2007, is particularly famous. And what we want to highlight in this cathedral is the Shrine of the Three Kings. This golden box, made in the 12th century, is said to contain the relics of the Magi. In Japanese, they are called the “Three Wise Men of the East,” figures who appear in the New Testament and brought gifts when Jesus Christ was born. The gargoyles on the exterior are also worth seeing, so be sure to check them out. Gargoyles typically have the shapes of monsters, animals, or bizarre human faces, and their designs are very diverse. You can see many gargoyles on the Cologne Cathedral, enhancing the overall majesty of the building. Next, we went to the Rhine River cruise we had reserved. (A bit nervous about not slipping!) Here’s the site where we made the reservation. Let’s also introduce the easy steps! (This is not an advertisement!) The site switches from English to German midway. Select the Cologne Skyline Tour from the sightseeing options. Proceed with the reservation, select the date. Choose the time and departure location, and decide whether to just do the cruise or include the Chocolate Museum. Select the number of people. Erwachsene is adult, Kinder is child, Kinderwagen is stroller, etc. The tickets for children vary by age. And it’s complete! We got tickets for both the cruise and the Chocolate Museum. (You’ll receive separate QR codes for both in an email.) (The QR codes for the cruise and the chocolate museum are separate) Please enjoy the music and river cruise scenery for a while. (The water level is high due to heavy rain the previous week.) Now let’s go to the beer hall that Marc used to frequent when he lived in Cologne! Popular with tourists is “Brauhaus FRÜH am Dom” in the city center, but it was crowded that day, so we went here instead. And when in Cologne, you have to try Kölsch! Prost! (Cheers!) I ordered Bierhaxe. It’s a dish of pork knuckle seasoned with garlic and cumin, then baked in beer. The side dish was roasted potatoes. Marc had Rheinischer Sauerbraten. It’s beef (sometimes horse) marinated in wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar and spices like bay leaves and cloves. The side dishes were Knödel and Apfelmus. What’s interesting about this beer is the way it’s served! When you finish drinking, the waiter brings a new Kölsch, just like with all-you-can-eat soba noodles. This is how they keep track of how many you’ve drunk. To stop, you place a coaster on top of your glass like this. If you come to Cologne, definitely try Kölsch! The Ludwig Museum was founded in 1976 by Peter and Irene Ludwig. It’s a museum specializing in modern art from the 20th to 21st centuries, focusing particularly on American Pop Art and German Expressionism. The Ludwig Museum also has many Picasso works. This is one of the largest Picasso collections in Europe, with diverse works including paintings, sculptures, and prints. (It felt like there were more ceramics here than in Barcelona.) From the rooftop of the museum, you can get a closer view of the backside of Cologne Cathedral. Seeing it this way, you’ll be surprised by the number of small spires. The Lindt Chocolate Museum is a must-see for chocolate lovers and those interested in the history and production of chocolate. You can journey through the history of chocolate from the ancient Mayans and Aztecs, its introduction to Europe, and its development into the beloved sweet treat we know today. The highlight of this museum is seeing the entire chocolate production process! There’s a small production line where you can see how cocoa beans are turned into chocolate bars. It feels exciting like a factory tour! We received a lot of chocolate here too. And the chocolate fountain is one of the fun attractions of this museum. You can dip wafers in chocolate and enjoy a delicious treat. (A dreamy chocolate server.) This Cologne tour took about 8 hours. Since we had pre-purchased tickets for the cruise (90 minutes) and the Chocolate Museum (set), we could move around quite smoothly. For those who want to enjoy shopping and cafes in the city, a two-day plan is recommended, but for those who want to do only the classic sightseeing like us, a day trip is enough! So, this is the end of our Cologne trip. Next time, we’ll have a travel video from the Iron Gates at the border between Serbia and Romania. Subscribe and hit the like button! Take care! See you in the next video! Tschüss!

Hallo!
