Luxurious Day in Lugano – A Walk Through The Swiss Streets And a Cruise On a Crystal Alpine Lake
Lugano, Switzerland Quick Preview Welcome to Lugano! These are the first shots from the funicular – a panorama that cannot be forgotten opens from the Monte Bre mountain Lugano opens up before me – green, dense, cozy Everything is close here: mountains, lake, Italian architecture and Alpine tranquility in one frame Descending into the very heart of Lugano We are almost down. The funicular runs between the buildings – an interesting contrast between the city and the nature we have just seen from above I walk along the Cassarate River – it flows through all of Lugano In the past, it was along the Cassarate that the first settlements arose. This place has deep roots Cassarate was once used for the work of mills and laundry. And today it’s just a green, calm route for walks I approach the coastal food court – there is always the aroma of fresh produce and a slight bustle In Lugano, even food has a special rhythm: pastries with cream, fresh focaccia, local cheeses – everything is served without haste, with pleasure Even the coffee here tastes different. You feel like you’re in Italy, but it’s still Switzerland, precise, balanced, and delicious And here we are in the summeriest place in Lugano – right on the shore of the lake This space is transformed into a free recreation area every summer: sand, wooden benches made of pallets, mountain views and boat sails The perfect place to take a breath, take off your shoes, and just watch life go by with the lake as a backdrop This is a public beach in Lugano. No frills, but with a view that hotels pay thousands for Locals and tourists mingle here on the same sand, children play in the clear water, and behind them is the symbol of the city: Monte San Salvatore The lake is so clean that you can swim even in the city center. And the warm water in the summer is another nice bonus Lugano lies in a narrow valley between mountains, and this is clearly visible from above People sit by the water, and it seems like time slows down here Lugano has deep roots: a Roman Catholic community existed here as early as the 10th century, and the city itself is mentioned in documents from 875 At various times, Lugano came under the control of Milan, France, and Austria – until in 1798 it became part of Switzerland This brilliant installation in the middle of a lakeside park is an example of contemporary open-air art In front of us is Monte Bre, the symbol of Lugano. The mountain is not very high, but the views from it are breathtaking Below is the small coastal village of Gandria. Once a fishing village, now one of the most cozy corners of the lake This is Parco Ciani, the most famous park in Lugano, and these gates have become its calling card The view overlooks the bay with Monte San Salvatore on the horizon, a favorite photo spot for tourists And this is Villa Chiani, a historic building that now serves as the city library and cultural center of Lugano I walk through the central streets of Lugano – here historical architecture is combined with modern facades And the atmosphere resembles a small Milan with Swiss precision The center of Lugano is all about peace, coffee, and the whisper of Italian in the air. It’s all about savoring the moment The central square of Lugano is the living heart of the city Open-air restaurants, old buildings in warm colors, evening light – here you just want to sit and watch life go by Gabbani Restaurant has been around since 1937 – it’s not just a place to eat. It’s a gastronomic story of Lugano, where classic recipes meet Italian charm in every detail I pass by one of the most atmospheric streets in Lugano. Restaurant tables descend the stairs, and between them are potted plants and views that dissolve into the distance of the lake This square is Piazza della Reforma – the main historical square of Lugano I am approaching the Cathedral of St. Lawrence – the main church of Lugano Its history dates back to the 11th century, although the Renaissance facade was added later Above, behind the temple, you can see Mount San Salvatore, the symbol of southern Ticino This is the lower station of the funicular that leads to the top of Monte Br – one of the symbols of Lugano Panorama of Lugano and the bell tower of the church of Santa Maria, in the background is Mount San Salvatore This is the heart of Lugano from above – the old part of the city near the lake Piazza della Riforma is where locals, tourists, musicians and politicians gather. The real pulsating core of the city Right in front of us is the historic Palazzo Civico, Lugano’s city hall The fountain on the Lugano waterfront is a favorite place to relax This is the most central promenade in Lugano It is here that the city’s tourist routes intersect, and it is from here that you can enjoy incredible views of the lake and the mountains The colorful flowerbed opposite Lake Lugano is one of the most photographed places in the city I’m going to the pier – now I’ll get on a tourist boat, we’ll sail on the lake Already on board. The view of Lugano opens directly from the water We sail along the shores of Lugano – the city looks even more beautiful from the lake A postcard-perfect landscape – a perfect day on Lake Lugano The city looks like a theatrical set – colors, shapes, and everything else against the backdrop of mountains I sail past the green embankment – shaded by trees and the facades of old villas This San Salvatore is a recognizable peak in Lugano We sail past Mount San Salvatore – 912 meters above the lake, tourists often climb here for panoramic views The course to the south of Lake Lugano – ahead is the Italian village of Gandria, at the very foot of the mountains The border of Switzerland and Italy – the course passes by Gandria The village of Gandria is scattered on a slope, without roads. It can only be reached on foot or by boat A quiet border village – life here flows slowly, like boats under the shore Grotto San Rocco – a traditional trattoria with local cuisine and a terrace overlooking the lake A classic grotto near Gandria – serving fish straight from Lake Lugano Before us is the Capo San Martino restaurant One of the few establishments that literally stands on the water between Lugano and the Italian border We are already in Italy. Ahead is the town of Porlezza on the mountainside Stop at Grotto Teresa, a family-run restaurant with a shady terrace and a descent directly into the lake Here you can go ashore, eat and experience the tranquility of the Italian province This is Gandria from the Italian side – houses right over the water, boats under the balconies and a life that takes its time. Old houses over the water – here every balcony sees the dawn over the lake In the rocks are the arches of an old road that once connected the lakeside villages of Italy. It is only visible from the water A familiar facade and a modern embankment – we are back in the city The walk continues. This is already a familiar part of the park on the embankment A city where the Mercedes G-Class looks like ordinary everyday life Lugano is a Swiss city with an Italian taste for cars I take the funicular above Lugano – below, a panorama of the city unfolds, ahead – the bridge and the sky Capodoro is one of the best panoramic sites in the World. From here you can see the entire lake and the bridge across it Capodoro Panoramic Viewpoint. The name translates as “Golden Cape” – and it’s quite justified From the top of Capodoro you can see the bridge across the lake, the border with Italy, and the entire Lugano Valley up to the mountain ranges From a height, the village of Carona is clearly visible – a historic settlement on a hill above Lugano The Melide Bridge, visible from here, was built in 1848 at the time, it was one of Switzerland’s first engineering triumphs In the distance, the Swiss part of the Wedege Valley, the main transit route to Italy, is visible Lake Lugano lies between Switzerland and Italy – it’s not just water, but a whole cultural transition This is the chapel of Santa Maria on the mountain of Monte Bre On the tops of the mountains, the Swiss built chapels – places of silence, prayer, and strength of spirit Once upon a time, it was not tourists who climbed here, but pilgrims – with faith and hope The walls of this chapel have seen more than any guide. And they are silent about the most important thing Here a person remains alone with himself, no matter how many visitors are around In front is a small altar with flowers and an icon These peaks have watched over the life of the region for centuries Here, at an altitude of over 1,300 meters, you can catch not only the signal, but also the spirit of Alpine tranquility From here you can see not just the landscape – you can see the scale of human aspirations Thank you for being there for me on this walk. Without you, it’s just a video! This view cannot be captured by any camera. It will be even more interesting later If you enjoyed this walk, don’t forget to subscribe and leave a comment See you on the next journey. Until then – take care and keep exploring 👋

Lucerne was always on my list… Now it’s at the very top.
Du hast die Atmosphäre so gut eingefangen – es ist nicht nur das, was wir sehen, sondern auch das, was wir fühlen. So sollte Reisen sein.
