Omihachiman Shiga Japan : A spectacular film location, La Collina, Baumkuchen factory, Lake Biwa
Hi! Today’s tour is La Collina in Shiga. Let’s go! It is a confectionery shop in Omihachiman, Shiga, famous for its Baumkuchen. There are many places in Omihachiman that are famous as filming locations for movies and dramas, so we will introduce those as well. First, we will go on a tour of a Baumkuchen factory. Don’t miss out on visiting the main store of Taneya, the Japanese confectionery shop that runs La Collina, and the Ukimido, which has recently become known to foreign tourists and offers a beautiful view of Lake Biwa! Details are listed in the description, so don’t forget to like and subscribe to the channel ! The Baumkuchen is baked while being rotated, and the amount of liquid pouredon it is adjusted by the person in charge. A typical Baumkuchen is said to have 10 to 20 layers. How many layers is this one? Try counting as you eat it. You can also buy a giant Baumkuchen at the souvenir shop. It’s about the length of my arm. The first floor is the factory and souvenir shop, and the second floor is a cafe where you can eat freshly baked Baumkuchen. The courtyard is shaped like a Baumkuchen. The gentle sweetness of sugar and the aroma of Baumkuchen fill the store. Orders can be placed in Japanese, English and Chinese. Of course, I’d order a freshly baked Baumkuchen, but wait, what’s a Baumshake? There is a shake that combines Baumkuchen and soft serve ice cream. After much deliberation, I decided to order Baumkuchen and Assam tea. The outside of the Baumkuchen is sprinkled with sugar. After I bite into the soft and fluffy texture, a sweet aroma fills my nose. Very relaxing time ! This cream is so fresh. ” Delicious! ” is said as ” Oishii ” in Japanese. There are birthday and matcha flavored Baumkuchen available. A block that allows you to create miniature La Collina buildings. There’s orange cake, mango and guava jelly. The building has a gnome/fairy house feel to it, and you can walk through this door. There are vintage bikes on display. The logo on the Honda bike is still in good condition. The outdoor food truck opens at 10am, but if you want to avoid the crowds, we recommend going when La Collina opens at 9am. These signs originated in Shiga and are called “Tobidashi Boys.” These signs are usually set up on school routes to prevent accidents where children run out onto the road. To order at the outdoor food court, you buy a meal ticket here and then go to the container or food car with the alphabet listed on your receipt to pick up your food. The terrace seats on the second floor offer a great view. Next, we head to the beautiful filming location of Taneya, the restaurant that runs La Collina, located nearby. If you get off the bridge you can see the ships passing by up close. This is a scenic spot that has been used as a location for various films, including the one for Rurouni Kenshin. Why not take a commemorative photo in this beautiful landscape? You can enjoy the view of Mt. Yawata which can be seen in the distance from the ropeway. Club Harie, run by Taneya, has a beautiful garden and the cakes are delicious, but unfortunately the cafe was under renovation. This is the main branch of Taneya. We eat their famous Tsuburamchi rice cakes. The outside is crispy and the inside is filled with bean paste. It’s even more delicious than it looks! It’s my first time trying this flavor, It has a very nice aroma. Finally, we will walk along a rice paddy path where rice planting has already begun, and head to the Ukimido Hall of Mangetsuji Temple in Motokatata, Otsu City. Passing through the pine trees, I take off may shoes and enter the Ukimido Hall. Look at this view! The sound of the waves of Lake Biwa is soothing. Did you enjoy our tour guide in Shiga ? I hope many good things happen to you today ! See you again soon !
