A peaceful lakeside village in the heart of the Swiss Alps. This is Lake Brienz, known for its bright turquoise color and crystal-clear water. Fed by glacial streams, the lake gets its unique color from tiny mineral particles carried down from the Alps. Lake Brienz stretches 14 km long, up to 260 m deep, one of Switzerland’s five deepest lakes. In recent years, Iseltwald has become a beloved destination for travelers from all over the world. Many visitors come from South Korea, after the village appeared in the popular drama “Crash Landing on You.” The wooden pier featured in the show is now “a must-see spot”, especially for K-drama fans. But it’s not just fans. Photographers, hikers, and nature lovers also come here for the peace. Iseltwald is a tiny lakeside village with just over 400 residents.
It sits quietly on the southern shore of Lake Brienz. This is the only village on the lake’s southern edge — a true hidden gem. On the lakeshore, a quiet garden thrives — full of color, care, and calm. A single bench facing the lake: Nothing more. Nothing needed. The people of Iseltwald live simply — and smile easily. Historical records mention Iseltwald as early as the 12th century. Fishing and lake transport were essential to life here during the Middle Ages. Life in this village moves with the rhythm of the seasons — calm and natural. These traditional Swiss houses look like they belong in a storybook. The houses in Iseltwald follow a traditional Bernese Oberland style. These are more than decorations. These are small symbols of joy, tradition and warm welcomes. The village center is car-free, made for walking, not to hurry. Locals live from tourism, small-scale farming and traditional crafts. A small Swiss farm — simple, tidy, and full of life. Meet the guardian of this peaceful farm — firm, feathered, and fearless 😄 I won’t get too close… he seems to take his job seriously 😄🪿🏡 Turns out, he’s actually very friendly, just doing his rounds. He just wanted to say hi! The lakeside gardens belong to local residents — calm retreats where they relax, grill, celebrate or simply enjoy the view. Turquoise water, towering mountains, and a quiet life that seems too beautiful to be real. A simple village fountain — made magical by petals floating in silence. Don’t you think? By the way: did you know that in Switzerland, most public fountains offer drinkable water? Would you take a sip? 😋💧 Meanwhile, this local resident enjoys a fresh lakeside salad 🦆🥗 A quiet dock, a few boats resting… and in the distance, Seeburg Castle watches over the lake. Seeburg Castle was built in 1907 by merchant Gottfried Siegrist. Its neo-Gothic style and lakeside setting make it feel like a real‑life fairy tale. Right by the lake, this terrace with red chairs and flowers offers a quiet break with a great view. Honestly, it’s one of the best places to relax. 🌺🍷 Walking here is not about seeing beauty — it’s about feeling something words can’t explain. Here we are at Strandbad & Camping Iseltwald — peacefully set along Lake Brienz. A place where families and travelers relax by the lake — sipping drinks, enjoying the view. After a short break on a bench, soaking in the lake’s calm…I continued the walk to discover more of this hidden gem. Sometimes, the best discoveries happen when you don’t look for anything 🤭 Can you imagine having a coffee here? ☕🌄🏞️ Lea and Jan live here. How do I know? Well… it’s tradition. In Swiss villages, families often paint their children’s names and birth dates on the house. A sweet way to say: this is home ❤️ Just a quiet street.. …would you stop to say hi to this little local? 🐱 Tiny village, endless charm. Every corner, every house….you could walk for hours, and still find new details to admire. 🏡❤️ I followed this quiet path… a single house on the right, and at the end…a closed gate. It’s the entrance to Seeburg Castle 🏰 Seeburg Castle dates back to the 19th century, once a noble residence, now privately owned. It sits quietly by the lake, adding to Iseltwald’s fairytale charm. 🏰🌊 Now it’s closed, but I can’t stop imagining how nobles once walked this same path. 👣🏰 The last house before Seeburg Castle… it might have once belonged to someone who served the nobility 🤔 This view makes you slow down and breathe. 🏞️ If you had this view in front of you, where would your mind go? 🤔🌄 Yes, even this fairytale village has a school..No escape, kids!😄📚 A beautiful wooden house with green shutters and in front, a small display of the past…like a mini outdoor museum. Old tools, grinders, maybe even a scythe… real antiques or clever replicas? Hard to tell…and that’s part of the charm 🤔 Either way, they caught my eye. What do you think: authentic Swiss history or just charming display pieces? 🧰 Comment below! 👇 I heard a bell and thought — cows, of course! 🐄 But no… just two adorable donkeys enjoying lunch. 🐴🔔😄 Said goodbye to the donkeys — time to see what’s next! 🐴👋
Would you keep walking with me? There’s more to see. 🚶♂️👇 Well well… what do we have here?
Real Swiss cows — finally! 🐄😄 Fluffy, brown-and-white beauties — and not camera-shy at all! This cow came right up to the camera and even gave it a little kiss! 😄 Cutest moment so far? 🐄❤️ These cows have better views than most luxury hotels. 🐄🌄 Would you trade spots with them? 😅👇 Still walking. Still smiling. Still can’t believe this is real. 🚶♂️❤️ A real farm corner — nothing fancy, just honest work and tradition. 🛠️👨🌾 Fresh air, a tractor, and a mountain view. Someone’s got the best garage in town. 🚜🏞️👇 The sound of the engine broke the silence… 🚜 And just like that, the tractor rolled out and headed into the fields..farming doesn’t wait. In traditional farming families, everyone has a role, even the kids. Helping with animals and land, this has been passed down for generations. 👨👩👧👦🐄🌾 Tradition, family, and nature — all go hand in hand. 🌿👨👩👧 This little chapel has stood quietly since 1907 — a place for reflection, framed by mountains. 🕍💭 The chapel is dedicated to Saint Joseph — the patron of families and workers. 🙏 A fitting guardian for a village built on tradition and quiet strength. Locals still come here to celebrate baptisms, weddings, and quiet prayers, just as their grandparents once did.
It’s more than a church. It’s part of the village’s soul. Hidden behind the chapel is a peaceful alpine cemetery. With wooden crosses, flowers, and mountain views…it’s a resting place full of grace. 🌿⛰️ Right across from the chapel… a fountain flows quietly. As if to remind us that life always continues💧 No tour guides, no rush — just me and this magical place 🪄 Mountains on one side, turquoise lake on the other…
And the bluest sky I’ve seen in a long time. 💙 Thank you for walking with me all the way to the end. 🙏
